You'd think that his lifestyle, madman temper and obesity, unlike his ability to dodge trials and criminal prosecution, would eventually catch up to him. Anyone with a diet similar to his like that guy who ate nothing but McDonald's for a month, usually experience some health issues for eating like shit. Why is getting rid of the Electoral College rarely mentioned? It should be a clause at the beginning of every article or newscast: "Given the fact that the US is still the victim of the insane Electoral College system..." (then just continue the story/article, regardless of its topic).

Why does the vote of a single resident of Wyoming outweigh the votes of literally dozens of Californians?

Expand full comment
Ethereal fairy Natalie's avatar

Because it takes 2/3rds of states to get rid of it, and those small populous (mostly red) states will never give up their undeserved power over the rest of us.

Expand full comment
skangirl's avatar

I understand how it (supposedly) works. As a kid in DC, I saw that my parents weren't permitted to vote in presidential elections, but the 23rd Amendment fixed that. Later, I realized that 3 EC votes was bullshit compared to the flip side (2 senators and a representative, all of whom would be Black).

BUT, with state legislatures being responsible for passing the most draconian anti-abortion laws, I'm hoping for a massive flip in state legislatures--massive enough to get us that 2/3rds majority to get DC's representation AND election by popular vote.

Expand full comment
P. J. Schuster's avatar

skangirl - Because the damned EC is in the Constitution & it will take an Amendment to be rid of it. I’m going to keep recommending this til I’m blue in the face; get Elie Mystal’s book: “Allow

Me to Retort - A Black Guy’s Guide to the Constitution” preferably in audiobook form so that you can hear it in his own passionate voice.

You will not only learn tons about the Constitution but you’ll laugh while doing so & you’ll come away with hope that we can fix it & the not so Supreme Court without amendments.

If you can’t afford the book, then listen to his entire series of podcasts called;

Contempt of Court. He just started doing the podcast this past June. It’s from The Nation Magazine about how to reform the SCOTUS

Expand full comment
skangirl's avatar

I was 5 when I discovered that my parents weren't allowed to vote for Kennedy because we lived in DC. On my 6th birthday, the 23rd Amendment was ratified, giving DC its 3 stupid EC votes. They should've gotten voting representation in Congress at the same time.

My hope is that the pro-choice backlash will fill state legislatures with enough Democrats to enable fixing that oversight. (Of course, if DC was suddenly filled with white Republicans, they'd have a GQP representative and senators so fast your head would spin.)

Maybe someday, we'll find out who is pulling the strings behind the scenes to continually give Diaper Don the breaks no other American would enjoy. It's maddening. More important than ever that we get rid of the demented MAGA cult and put credibility and intellect back in our government. VOTE!!!!

And FANI? That seems like a good solution, but I'm still pissed she put herself in such a position. But I dont care who she sleeps with ... TRUMP is guilty as fuck. And his co-conspirators are, too. 🙄 TGIF!

Susan, there is so much going on that we will discover- preferably very soon. Trump incited a deadly insurrection, he was convicted of rape, has 91 indictments pending, yet somehow, we just can’t seem to use our own constitutional law to prevent this pustule from walking around free as a bird AND running for the very office he did his best to destroy along with the entire government. And the ENTIRE rescumliCon party is backing him, seemingly without fear of consequences for themselves. Beyond bizarre.

Actually, Susan...even though I can live with the judge's solution...we really don't know WHAT Fani Willis did or didn't do. What we DO know is that MAGA saw a strong woman and dug around for people who may have had issues with her or may have had problems and they shitted all over her personal life! They had been trying to get rid of her for months. If they could prove she was guilty of what they accused her of, she'd be gone. But, when it came to testifying under oath, she did...her accuser didn't really want to. To use a word that MAGA women may understand...I think it was beyond DISGUSTING!

I hate that it's now up to us voters to rid ourselves of this meddlesome troll at the ballot box. As the President and Commander of the Military , he declares a clear and present danger to the nation! He Could postpone the election, and suspend the Congress ,until the courts can indict and prosecute those members who have refused to comply with subpoenas issued lawfully and ignored as well as bring charges against members who supported the Jan 6th insurrection! If the courts refuse to do so in a timely and appropriate manner, appoint Judges who will ! This is a process that is not a lot different than what the right wing traitors are proposing to do if they are elected in November! The “indicted” and charged congressmen and women would not be allowed to vote until aquited on the charges ,or , could stand down and be replaced by a special election. The remaining members of Congress could continue on with their usual business while this went on,and pass the friggen legislation needed to correct the fucked up and corrupt laws causing this mess!

"Above all, do not lose your desire to walk. Everyday, I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness. I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it.
