SPOT ON! That we are still dealing with little donnie fuckface and all his minions 3 yrs past an attempted coup is absolutely horrific! Shame on every person elected or not who continues to go along with him.

Yes, 100%, but certainly NOT "the American people" that Elise Stefanik is talking about. THOSE American people are on the side of the domestic terrorist "HOSTAGES."

Steve, I think those poor fools are hostages as well, perhaps even more so. It’s like a form of Stockholm Syndrome? We may be hostages but we have the ability to escape. Vote! Vote like your lives depend on it because it does. They will only vote for their captors bc they have no clue how badly they are being manipulated, even in the face of irrefutable evidence. They don’t know that they are voting for their own demise.

Elise Stefanik sounds like someone who does not want to be on the receiving end of the cries to hang Mike Pence so she has her nose all up in Trump's smelly butt! I noticed that one of the people in the Proud Boys clip had an Amazon shirt on. Such great advertisement for Amazon and its Proud Boy leader. These people are dangerous in their stupidity and are dumber than dirt.

On January 6, 2021, I was caring for my then 94 year old father, a WWII veteran who was living with me in a home hospice program for the gall bladder cancer that eventually took him. We watched the insurrection live as it unfolded.

I will never forget my sweet old daddy sitting there with tears running down his face watching the country he'd sworn to defend 77 years before fall into ashes at the behest of its "commander in chief." He'd also been a loyal Republican for many years until Reagan and Bush Pere finally showed him they didn't give a goddamn about working guys like him.

He died six months later, and I can never forgive Trump or his stooges for harshening my dad's final months with their actions. I wish I believed in hell so I could imagine them rotting in it.

I can relate to that Elaine. My dear 96-year-old mother is still with us and has always followed the news closely. I’ll never forgive Trump for inflicting eight years of pure shit on her dotage.

Regardless of the times, I believe that your connection with him will always exist - no matter what 🤓 I feel like you are blessed to have had personal time with him. I didn’t get enough time with mine, but I continue to foster my connection with my dad in words and spirit. Beautiful share.

Those last months were especially poignant because we'd lived almost 1000 miles apart for 35 years, since I was 20.

I can relate. My dad died in 1997, and my mom went on, living alone for several years as she was pretty self-sufficient. In 2013 the company I worked for went belly-up and she invited me to move in with her, which was unexpected, but at the time she was 80, so it made sense since I'm the only one around. My brother lives about 1800 miles away. So, I've been here for 10 years, taking care of her, and having a work-from-home job. And I get a little chuckle every time I see someone online accuse someone of posting from their mommy's basement, because at 65, that's exactly what I do. 🤣

Expand full comment

I spent my own time posting from my parents' basement while I stayed with them until they each left this world.

I came for a visit at the start of my living a gypsy lifestyle in an '85 VW Vanagon after returning from Peace Corps service where I had just turned 40. My dad wasn't doing so well and my mom couldn't handle everything he needed. They wanted to stay in their home, and I had no burning life desire calling my name. I made the choice to stay and help.

It wasn't the hippie life I had planned, but I am happy to have been able to do that for my parents. My mom died the spring before trump was 'elected' into office firmly believing Hillary would be voted in our first woman President. I am glad she did not live to see what transpired instead.

Right after the 1/6 insurrection, some outlets showed the contrast between how harshly the police treated about a smaller collection of Black Lives Matter protestors a few months earlier who were standing at the BOTTOM of The Capitol steps peacefully protesting—and contrasting it to how the the cops originally treated the 1/6 rioters, taking selfies with them and laughing about their signs.

That's why I took me a while to not suspect the Capitol Police (at least, some of the White members) of AIDING in the insurrection....

Expand full comment

My thoughts exactly...where are the unbiased, readers of the news these days? Are there any of them left? How did we go from Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather to Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity?

Expand full comment

How is the question, for sure. How has our country and government swayed to honor bullheadedness and money over equality and humanitarian rights. How do we repeal existing rules like appointed, lifetime seats in our highest level of judiciary positions? Is there a way to “impeach” those who hold those seats and are biased and religiously motivated? There are those, also, that are completely mentally ill and incompetent. They just can’t withhold their oath to our country and laws.

Can we change our constitution to vote and to democratically choose those that we, as civilized human beings deserve and desire? Limits on time terms need to be established and enforced. I don’t believe in anyone having a lifetime position guaranteed, unless they meet or exceed our expectations!

Is there a way 🧐

Expand full comment

Of course there is a way, we can change the Constitution, but it is extremely difficult. We’d need 60 votes in the Senate & a 2/3 majority in the House for an amendment & then it has to be approved by 2/3 or ¾ of the individual states.

Remember, the ERA was passed by Congress decades ago & has yet to be passed by the required number of the states.

That’s disgraceful. Voters in the states that have not yet ratified the ERA need to start pushing for it.

Expand full comment

Thanks P. J. I’m trying to further educate and understand our political rights and responsibilities as a caring, open minded individual. These processes are a great, tangled web that I tend to find very difficult to understand and navigate. I keep trying though. Always trying to learn and understand so that I can have more opportunities to take an initiative as an honorable, authentic citizen of our country.

Expand full comment

Heidi 👏👏👏 well said!

Expand full comment

Please read the wikipedia article on the ERA. The situation is complicated. We should all be working to increase D majorities in the House and Senate, in order to remove the deadline that is not part of the text of the ERA, but merely attached to the proposed amendment. Then the work really begins!

At least five states ratified the ERA but now want that to be undone. At least three more states ratified after the 1982 deadline extension. So not only do the Ds have to retake Congress, but the Ds have to retake enough state legislatures to ratify it, or at least remove the obstacles to ratification, such as removing lawsuits against the ERA being ratified in states where its ratification has been disputed. And a new Archivist, Colleen Shogan, has been appointed and approved to hold the post as of 2023, and she has a role to play in adding a ratified ERA amendment (#28) to the Constitution. I don't know how long her term in the job lasts, but an Archivist is needed to make the final step happen. Don't get me started on the SCOTUS--six of those justices are unlikely to support the ERA in 2024.

It's difficult not to be discouraged. At least 1/3 of the country does not want equal rights for women, and they see the ERA as a "back door opening to abortion." I know my kid has fewer rights than I did at the same age, and I don't see enough of the other 2/3 of our country rallying behind the ERA and doing what it legally takes to make the 28th Amendment real. I'm wondering whether it will ever happen now in my lifetime, and maybe not even in my kid's lifetime.

Unfortunately, America's masses are apathetic and ignorant when they're not downright wrongheaded. I don't know what the answer is, but please keep doing your part, Jeff.
