This very moment, I am on the sidewalk in front of my local Planned Parenthood, on a vacation day to defend patients from protesters who try to stop them in the driveway in violation of federal law. The stupid runs very very strong. 😂

Just a clarification, I am not an escort. I'm a clinic defender. I'm not under the supervision or jurisdiction of the clinic staff. I do this because is an escort, you're not allowed to engage with protesters.

Thank you. When I was married and in graduate school in the early 1980s, the student health insurance didn't cover OBYN exams and contraception. Planned Parenthood provided the health care I needed as a young woman, because, I dunno, what, those other than Planned Parenthood thought lady parts are icky? Anyhoo, these protesters are blocking essential women's health care, so while they "attempt to save fetuses" or whatever the stupid fuck they think they are doing , they are also helping women die of ovarian cancer and similar. Bastards.

If they were so pro life, they'd support contraception, prenatal and postnatal care of women. Also, babies would always be on Medicaid if the parents didn't have insurance, school meals would be free to low income children and day care would be made more affordable. They also would go after dead beat dads who don't contribute any support to their children. This is all about control of women. Want to control a woman, keep her at home, out of the workplace and stunt her future career endeavors? Keep her barefoot and pregnant. And they wrap it all up in a nice religious package with a bow on it.

They're not pro-life, or pro-baby. They're pro-punishing-women for having sex, and also just pro-punishing women. It is all about hating and harming and punishing women. You might say they were FORCED-birth, as part of their fevered misogyny. We really need to understand it is entirely about loathing women and wanting "uppity" women to die. The words "pro life" are and have always been a convenient cover story.

Exactly this. It is all about control and keeping the oligarch wyt patriarchy on top. It isn't about just controlling women, it is controlling the poor. Large families keep people poor and tired and unable to fight (unless they are incredibly wealthy to begin with), it has been a tactic of fascism and dictators since the book was written. Look at Hungary and Romania, look at Nazi Germany...it all ends up with immense suffering for said children but the ones who want to control us don't care (if they needed an abortion they would still have one).

Expand full comment
Maria Wiblin-moreno's avatar

Not even until then, they don't care about the risks to the health of the person carrying the foetus, they will let them die rather than abort. They also don't care about the quality of life (if it has severe disabilities) nor do they care that by denying contraception hundreds of fertilised embryo's still get flushed out the womb naturally, they don't care about life at all. Abortion bans don't lower abortion rates, contraception and good sex education do. They don't want either of those things either because god forbid, one of the biggest things to protect children from SA and predation be in place to work against Christo-Fash predators who want to prey on them.

https://www.patheos.com/blogs/lovejoyfeminism/2012/10/how-i-lost-faith-in-the-pro-life-movement.html

Interesting article pointing out that none of the forced birth pushers actually care about life or babies.

Exactly this. Until recently (2021) sanitary products in the UK were classed as "Luxury Non-essentials" though this extra tax was abolished, in the USA currently, 20 states charge sales tax on period products (as of May 14, 2024). The sales taxes range from 4% to 7% in Indiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. 5 U.S. states (Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon) do not have a statewide sales tax. This is because they still class menstruating as a Luxury...https://allianceforperiodsupplies.org/tampon-tax/

Currently North Dakota, Idaho (X), Wyoming, South Dakota (X), Utah (it exempted them then repealed this in 2020), Arizona (X), Kansas, Oklahoma (X), Missouri (X), Arkansas (X), Alabama (X), Tennessee (X), Kentucky(X), Mississippi (X) North Carolina, West Virgina, (X) Indiana (X), New Mexico and Wisconsin (X)...all tax sanitary products as luxury items.

Hmmm what seems to be common theme of those states still persecuting women for daring to menstruate? Oh look bible belt...

Oh and how many of those states is abortion illegal? 13/19 (the ones with an x), oh and nearly all of them are RED states...what about child marriage you say? Well New Mexico, Oklahoma and Mississippi (and sadly California is the forth which is odd considering it seems to be otherwise quite progressive.) all have no minimum marrying age - which means in Oklahoma and Mississippi minors can be forced to marry their elderly rapists (and carry their children to term) and then cannot seek divorce for years...(only 13 states completely ban child marriage the others all allow it from either 15, 16 or 17).

Christo-Fascists and conservatives seem to love persecuting and controlling women and girls, don't they? Watch them overturn the right to contraception (Griswald) next...oh they are already working on that it seems ...especially any that they think are "abortititves")

So glad I do not live in the USA, though i see the same dark money is trying to influences things here in the UK where we also don't have legal protections as we don't have a written constitution and recently wording of key bills were changed to remove the legal right to abortion (it is technically still criminalised here unless certain circumstances are hit, the main one is health (including mental health) of the the person carrying the pregnancy, however if they change this it will become very difficult to obtain an abortion safely and legally).

Perhaps rightly so, all judges including Merchan are afraid of this whole thing turning into an “election interference” circus. The core problem is that there simply is no precedent for this situation. There is no law that covers this nightmare. It seems the only law that applies is freedom of speech protections—even if we recognize that he has stretched this tactics above and beyond norms.

If the tables were turned we’d be glad no one would overreact at our candidate. Problem is, we know he’s a damn convict and we aren’t overreacting. Is the only solution to apply common sense and get laws in place the prevent the situation? For starters, create laws that will prevent people with criminal charges to run for office. There should be no barriers to trials and convictions if a person is properly convicted, no matter how close to voting day it occurs. No special deadline changes. Just court business as usual. No matter when a conviction is handed down, the moment a candidate is convicted—, s/he’s OUT.

Hopefully the collapse of the former Republican 'party' will open the way for some effective margins, such as the collapse of the Republican 'party'.

Most of us homegrown Americans would flunk that test. Maybe to graduate high school, it needs to be a requirement to pass it. But then what happens to the kids that drop out of school? Maybe make it part of the GED requirement. The lack of knowledge I see in young people is frightening. Oh, they’ll show you how to record the latest Tik Tok video and selfie, but who cares? When I graduated from nursing school when dinosaurs roamed, there was only paper charting. It is what it sounds like. You take a pen and chart on paper and it goes into their hard copy chart. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out. A couple of years ago, one of my hospitals was hit with a ransomware attack. Totally shut down all the computer programs for 2 weeks. We have downtime paperwork to use when we can’t chart on the computer. I had some of the younger generation all upset because they didn’t know “how to paper chart”. You put a pen in your hand and write the information on a form. I’m not kidding. I just shook my head. And you expect them to know about how our government works?

New York restores the right to vote for people convicted of felonies upon release from imprisonment. If people convicted of felonies are not imprisoned, they remain eligible to vote.

Because our government can be reactive, rather than proactive about passing laws to protect us against our enemies, foreign or domestic. Just because psychos like Trump weren't around when George, Ben and John were making up the Constitution, doesn't mean they'd never exist. And rulers in other countries were awful back then. It's human behavior. We got complacent. We've had 50 years to codify Roe and we didn't. Same with putting laws on the books about felons running for public office, blah blah blah. Why aren't they there? Because sometimes Congress/government is too busy thinking of what to rename an airport after a famous person, should we ban paper straws, should we do away with Columbus' birthday as a holiday? Stuff that has nothing to do with our security and everything to do with unimportant stuff that most people don't care about. I don't care if my airport is named Planes Land Here. No offense to Harry Reid, because I liked him, but how many millions of dollars did it cost to rename our airport in Vegas?

What ended a political career just a few decades ago, is now overlooked and many times not even mentioned. If that was so, Trump would have been blown out of the water by the scandal with Ivana and Marla Maples. Donna Rice was caught just sitting on Gary Hart’s lap and bye bye Gary for good.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m damn tired of listening to and reading about threats being made on the lives of journalists, reporters, publishers, members of congress, former members of congress, government officials, election workers…. and I could go on. And, I’m also damn tired of listening to and reading about threats of chaos and violence. These threats are a problem – those who have threated violence and those who do in the future threaten violence, and those who incite violence are domestic terrorists.

Recommended solutions for dealing with domestic terrorists:

1. Get the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp (GBDC) ready

2. As to those fucking scumbags who have already made threats, arrest them immediately and lock them away in GBDC until they are ready to bring to trial.

3. As to those fucking scumbags who have not yet made threats but who do so after the election is over and done with, arrest them and lock them away in GBDC until they are ready to bring to trial.

4. As to anyone who incites others to commit violence or make threats, arrest them and lock them away in GBDC until they are ready to bring to trial.

5. As to anyone caught in the act of committing violence, if they are armed with guns, knives, explosives, etc., they should immediately be dealt with by lethal force.
