this is not as sexy a story as Judge Engoron screaming at Trump, or Marge Sporkfoot saying something stupid, but nonetheless I hope people pay attention to it

The Washington Post has a new CEO, some Murdochian douchebag who used to work for the Wall St. Journal. The Murdochification of the media is complete. That's why I value the perspective of certain people who are not reporters: Jeff, Heather Cox Richardson, Jennifer Rubin. Thanks for your daily efforts, Jeff.

What?? I replace the NYT as the "paper of record" with The Washington Post a few years ago! Oh man, if I start seeing Murdochian headlines coming into my email, I'll quit that sub ASAP and give the money to Joyce Vance. Can we NOT have REAL news from SOMEWHERE?? WTF?

So if Saint Mike hides his wealth in an off-shore account, can he keep it hidden? What's needed here is a courageous, top-notch investigative reporter to ferret out that couple's shady financial arrangements. Maybe somebody who won't get arrested, exiled, or murdered for it. That's gonna be way juicier than anything that the amateurish Marge, middle-school Lauren, or nosepicker George can scare up. I'm looking forward to the adventure.

Mary Virginia Hughes's avatar

Supposedly there's a trick to being able to detect the existence of a bank account if you go out looking for someone else's. According to some stuff I've read, either he runs a balance so low and his deposits never tick the check the feds have on bank accounts, a money laundering device supposedly, then just a bank account with not much money ever in it, it's hard to detect. It's also said he sleeps in his House office.

I live in Arkansas, where we have the bride of Frankenstein for Governor. How much of a criminal is she? On one side of me is Texas, with Abbott and Paxton. Two peas in the criminal pod. Louisiana is below me. If you think that Holy Mike is bad, check out John Kennedy. This good old (younger than me) Louisiana boy spent a Christmas in Russia and got Russian oligarch money as a present. It is so sad that so many in America are so crooked and hide behind religion or something. I have spent 72 years in the real world and that is all I know.

Every day. Worse and worse. I’m getting very concerned that I may need to move to another country. Where, I don’t know. I’m too old to spend my last years in an MAGA-crazed autocracy. I’m sick of the chaos, I’m sick of the bullshit, I’m sick to death of trump. The NYT reports today that trump is beating Biden in polls. I know, I know, people say don’t look at polls. But for fuck sake, it shouldn’t even be close. What is terrifying, is that even if trump ate one too many hamberders and went straight to hell, this MAGAcrap is now so entrenched in our politics that I don’t know if we’ll ever be rid of it. I feel like I’m in a political straight jacket. I want to scream!

I truly think this asshole is going to regret gleefully jumping into the spotlight. And he’s already boo-hoo-hooing about how the nasty media is after him, conveniently overlooking the fact that he has stated that (1) gay people (checks notes) caused the downfall of the Roman Empire, and (2) the basic function of women is to give birth to at least one “able-bodied” worker. Our government is a haven for liars, grifters, and dirt bags that have never been able to hold a real job. I think they get "found out" and move on. Personally, I think Mike Johnson is an extremely closeted gay man, which is (1) why he "adopted" a 14 year old black son, and (2) why his wife spends all her time on her knees, praying, and running a "conversion therapy" clinic, in the fervent hope that it will get her husband straight, too. But that's just me. As for the no bank account? Probably it's one of those off-the-radar "Christian banks" that don't bother with FDIC insurance or anything, because.

He has a bank account, he just doesn’t report it. Because nothing will happen to him, ala Clarence Thomas. Now WHY he doesn’t list his bank accounts in mandatory financial disclosure statements is a whole different question. Is he just stupid? Lazy? Hiding something? Who knows? But what we do know is zero due diligence was done on the little religious freak, so if it turns out he is a serial killer and hiding bodies of “adopted children” in closets will anyone be surprised?
