If we’re going to start impeaching, & a heart attack hasn’t already taken him by then, start with Thomas. He seems to be the most corrupt, bribery wise; plus having an insurrectionist for a wife. Then every one of the fkrs who lied about Roe. Those last 2 that were confirmed, & I was watching, I just knew they were lying about that. Everyone who truly wants to make major changes really should get the audiobook of “Allow Me to Retort - A Black Guy’s Guide to the Constitution” by Elie Mystal. Or listen to his 8 episode podcast “Contempt of Court”

It covers some of the main things we can do to rein them in & check their power. He says people always bring up term limits, but that is the least likely way, because their lifetime service is in the Constitution & I’m sure we all know that an amendment would be nearly an impossibility & take yrs to accomplish.

Remember the Equal Rights Amendment? It’s been decades & has still never been ratified by the requisite number of states.

Jeff, you are brilliant in your own right, and brilliant in assembling cogent and relevant comments from others. Thank you! Today is another master class. I generally am not a fan of cursing, in my personal life, or by others. I have always thought it easy and cheap and sorta classless.

Guess what? I LOVE your columns. Something about the last 10 or so years, and the abject and utter vulgarity, stupidity and debasement of our culture and our world by Trump and all his sycophants and acolytes, including obviously a bunch in black robes yesterday, demands a direct and dismissive response to these disgusting, embarrassing and dare I say CRAZY people.

Keep up the good work. I despair for the USA. I never thought I would see such perverted, craven, vile and immoral behavior from all of my fellow “good Christian people.”

It is a cult, and it is absolute insanity. People truly seem to want Hitler 2.0. How bizarre is that? Even if people truly want a king/fascist/strongman/dictator, how could ANYONE pick DJT???????

As I said to many during Covid, literally anyone on the planet would be better than Trump in being in charge. Today that is more true than ever, if that’s even possible. He should be in a mental institution with a dementia unit.

By the way, as a lawyer, to think that such a vulgar, evil and cruel human has us acting like 1930’s Germany is absolutely frightening.

Why do people say, "Grow some balls?" Balls are weak and sensitive. If you really want to get tough grow a vagina. Those things take a pounding! -- Attributed to the late, great Betty White

Expand full comment
Ethereal fairy Natalie's avatar

Fact check: she never said that, and was apalled it is attributed to her.

"But while the observation has much of the cadence, attitude and wit that have made White so beloved by American audiences over the years, she never uttered those words and made no bones about it when they were recited to her by a writer for The Guardian: "That's what I hate about Facebook and the internet. They can say you said anything. I never would have said that. I'd never say that in a million years."

So, who did say it? Partial credit goes to New York standup comedian Sheng Wang, who delivered a lengthier version of the joke on the 28 January 2011 episode of Comedy Central Presents:

A friend said to me, "Hey you need to grow a pair. Grow a pair, Bro." It's when someone calls you weak, but they associate it with a lack of testicles. Which is weird, because testicles are the most sensitive things in the world. If you suddenly just grew a pair, you'd be a lot more vulnerable. If you want to be tough, you should lose a pair. If you want to be real tough, you should grow a vagina. Those things can take a pounding."

"Could a President, in his/her official capacity, declare that their opponent is corrupt and assassinate their opponent, call it an official act, and be immune from prosecution?" Trump's attorney: "Yes."

In their minds, how many of the justices replaced "opponent" in that sentence with "a Supreme Court justice"? If a President could assassinate an opponent, what's to stop him from killing a judge he doesn't like? This is Putin's Russia.

Expand full comment
Burke's avatar

One of the (backup) theories of Trump's attorneys is that the three branches of government are co-equal. In which case, a sitting President is not subject to the judgment of the Supreme Court. From a practical standpoint, the Executive is charged with enforcing the law (including the law as interpreted by the Court). What if he refuses to enforce the Supreme Court's rulings? (Irony.) What if he refuses to leave office at the end of his term? Then he is unaccountable for any crime--official or private. This is Putin's Russia.

A double mystery is the lack of self-defense by SCOTUS and the Free Press. Donald has been very clear about his disregard for the law and for courts who attempt to hold him to account for his words and deeds. He's said many times that the Press is the "Enemy of the People"--meaning his enemy, of course. Both of them should be shutting him down, for self-preservation! Are they really this clueless?
