No one is coming to save us. I can live with that. We have to win the next election so decisively that Dark Brandon will expand the court to 13. In the meantime, I fight despair with Postcards to Voters and a whole lot of weed.

Plus, at least four of those fkers LIED under oath about Roe v. Wade being settled law during their confirmation hearings. IMPEACH THEM!

We need the House and a whole lot more D seats in the Senate to get that impeachment/conviction thing to occur.

I agree 100%!!!

If we’re going to start impeaching, & a heart attack hasn’t already taken him by then, start with Thomas. He seems to be the most corrupt, bribery wise; plus having an insurrectionist for a wife. Then every one of the fkrs who lied about Roe. Those last 2 that were confirmed, & I was watching, I just knew they were lying about that. I could just see the glimmer in her eyes that she could barely wait to throw it out. All 6 of those conservatives are bad, but I guess the least disgusting is Roberts.

I just can’t believe we’re in this horrible situation!! 🤬🤬🤬

Absolutely! The corruption in the SC is frighteningly real and shocking. These justices are as corrupt as their great leader . When Joe Biden wins reelection, the number of justices to serve will hopefully be expanded to serve the People, not a dictator bent on vengeance whose only wish is to benefit himself.

I would like to see a real investigation into Kavanaugh take place. That would get rid of him. Everyone who truly wants to make major changes really should get the audiobook of “Allow Me to Retort - A Black Guy’s Guide to the Constitution” by Elie Mystal. Or listen to his 8 episode podcast “Contempt of Court”

It covers some of the main things we can do to rein them in & check their power. He says people always bring up term limits, but that is the least likely way, because their lifetime service is in the Constitution & I’m sure we all know that an amendment would be nearly an impossibility & take yrs to accomplish.

Remember the Equal Rights Amendment? It’s been decades & has still never been ratified by the requisite number of states.

I can't help but wonder how we got to critical mass. A sick and dangerous snake oil salesman slid into the WH and now is the venomous head of one of the two major political parties in our country. Were we too complacent? Did we lack the imagination to believe it could happen here? We were led by our pride telling us we were "special" and the nation that God chose. If any of that is true, there will be no conquering hero riding in to save the day. Maybe self-examination (for some of us) and a renewed determination free of grievance and blaming to join forces with a take-no-prisoners attitude. It can not be too late. We have watched our President keep his own counsel (until the campaign trail) and focus on the task of serving our country without fanfare or cooperation from the Congress. They've tried to impeach his character and his performance yet his list of accomplishments speak for themselves. He continues to work on our behalf while every imaginable lie, mischaracterization and insidious, cruel memes pepper the internet. He loves the Constitution along with our laws and most of all us. He loves our country and our people. He has not given in to the forces of evil that spew hate and division, and neither should we. Yes, going high when they go low was right for that time and it worked. We are in a different place---we need to fight harder to go higher. I owe the man who brought us through a pandemic and who works 24/7 to pull us through a recovery we can boast about. Pretty sure he would prefer retirement with his loved ones but he has sacrificed his golden years. Who we are is not who we should be but it is subject to change - Now. Yeah, I am going to get a ration of sh*t for this post but I'm o.k. with that this time!

Fantastic post Gomez and Me. This has so much information that everyone should see. We have been complacent. We are the greatest after all. We have had no precedent or even close to it so we are lazy and complacent and... naive. I wrote a long comment on the fact that 'no one can save us' several months back. Not the courts or special prosecutor or judiciary, legislature or even the current President, no one person or body can turn it around now. It takes a combined effort and the jury is out on that until the election. Biden has been and will be the man of the hour. Your praise does justice to this fine man. It is nauseating to see the other side demonize him and the media sings right along. I think your post is insightful and hopeful. no one here can take issue with that. Thanks for your post.

You're right. No one can save "you". Not even your own people. Regardless of the outcome of Nov 5/24, it will be a shit-show until Jan 6/25... and beyond. The script is already written. The sound-bytes are already crafted. The strategy is already in place. Even a Biden landslide will be cast into doubt. Turmoil is inevitable. In fact, its predictable. It is (or will be) the end of America. Period. And people had better lift their heads out of the current fog of wishful thinking, thoughts and prayers and "there, there... it's all gonna be ok's" and figure out how the fuck to solve the problem before it upends everything not only in the US but globally.

Your words are so sad and true Steve. The table has been set after forty or fifty years of the degradation of our country by self serving hateful loathsome people. The republicans have been building towards this since Nixon's downfall. Roger Ailes, was a Nixon aide and he came up with the idea for a news propaganda station, so that no republican president would ever have to step down again. He eventually pitched moneyman Rupert Murdoch, Murdoch pitched Reagan and got fast-tracked privilege to citizenship, so he could own media in this country. And Reagan killed the "Fairness Doctrine" that stated that on news shows you had to present both sides of an issue you couldn't just make shit up. Unfortunately, it only applied to public airwaves and cable had no such rule. It needed updating for the technology and still would.

That set the stage, Reagan then courted the crazies, the birchers, the racists, and the neonazis, plus the evangelistic vote, by pretending to be religious. He announced his intention to run in the Mississippi town that killed the civil rights workers. Huge dogwhistle to the white supremacists. That is the setup. we didn't just arrive here organically. This has been a fifty + year plan.

Not so. He is also mentally incompetent to fill the job of president of the United States and the duties required of a president. He wants to destroy our democracy and appoint himself the dick-tater of America.

This is not the world I brought my children into several years ago. This is not the world I want to live in. I will be ashamed to be an American if donnie dotard is elected, and I may have to move to a blue state, where I no know one, just to be safe at night. I don't know what my sons will do. They don't live in blue states either.

I'm just an older single mother with no other family than my wonderful dog and my two sons, who aren't speaking to me at this time for reasons known only to them. I have no one to help me settle in a blue state, but, if the worst happens, I think that would be the only safe place for me and my dog.

I don't know where the hell I am nowadays. This isn't the America where I was born, grew up, raised my family, and am now retired with several major medical issues. This sucks. So much, this I relate to. My language is peppered with words I never used outside before 2016. A dictator president is not what our parents and grandparents served toward in WW2. Never again, as my dear dad used to say.

FTrump, my late father in law was in the Marines in WW II, and participated in one battle, the worst of them all, Iwo Jima. How quickly we forget. We have clearly forgotten what “never again” was about. If the present day does not call for cursing those people out, I do not know what does.

My dad was Antifa, Class of 1945. Unfortunately, most of the people from WWII are no longer with us, so there isn't the memory of how fking awful it was, so we are having to relearn this shit all over again.

Time to have the military arrest all those traitors, and those supporting them, and put them in jail until they can figure out how to get out. Then, the real patriots can stall. This is obviously a well organized plan to overthrow the Government.

Their well organized plan to overthrow our government for the People they believe will ultimately pad their own pockets as they continue their criminal activities in support of their dear Leader.

WHAT THEY ARE SUGGESTING IS THAT TRUMP OR ANY FUTURE PRESIDENT COULD ASSASINATE ANY FOREIGN HEAD OF STATE HE DOES NOT LIKE AND MOT BE CHARGED WITH A CRIME. WTF?

Expand full comment

A little closer to home. He could assassinate any judge or Justice and call it official business. A despot doesn't need immunity if he owns the courts. Either the judge or Justice rules in his favor or they fall out a window. This is Putin's Russia. Kill the offending judge and his/her family and friends. This is Kim's North Korea. Trump's pals.

VOTE the republican traitors out of fucking office. keep control of the senate and add FOUR more justices, Hear that Biden? And after you win re-election and don't have the balls to do it which the Federalist assholes are counting on, resign, pass the baton to Kamala and I bet the fuck she'll have the balls to do it.

Why do people say, "Grow some balls?" Balls are weak and sensitive. If you really want to get tough grow a vagina. Those things take a pounding! -- Attributed to the late, great Betty White

Expand full comment

Fact check: she never said that, and was apalled it is attributed to her.

"But while the observation has much of the cadence, attitude and wit that have made White so beloved by American audiences over the years, she never uttered those words and made no bones about it when they were recited to her by a writer for The Guardian: "That's what I hate about Facebook and the internet. They can say you said anything. I never would have said that. I'd never say that in a million years."

So, who did say it? Partial credit goes to New York standup comedian Sheng Wang, who delivered a lengthier version of the joke on the 28 January 2011 episode of Comedy Central Presents:

A friend said to me, "Hey you need to grow a pair. Grow a pair, Bro." It's when someone calls you weak, but they associate it with a lack of testicles. Which is weird, because testicles are the most sensitive things in the world. If you suddenly just grew a pair, you'd be a lot more vulnerable. If you want to be tough, you should lose a pair. If you want to be real tough, you should grow a vagina. Those things can take a pounding."

Thanks for that Natalie. It does sound like something Betty would say, but I appreciate now knowing the truth about its origin. She was such a dear and witty woman. I would love to have a collection of her actual sayings.

I agree with STF that Betty White deserves a postage stamp. I bought several sheets of RBG stamps when they came out and gave them to my friends for Christmas.

"Could a President, in his/her official capacity, declare that their opponent is corrupt and assassinate their opponent, call it an official act, and be immune from prosecution?" Trump's attorney: "Yes."

In their minds, how many of the justices replaced "opponent" in that sentence with "a Supreme Court justice"? If a President could assassinate an opponent, what's to stop him from killing a judge he doesn't like? This is Putin's Russia.

Expand full comment

One of the (backup) theories of Trump's attorneys is that the three branches of government are co-equal. In which case, a sitting President is not subject to the judgment of the Supreme Court. From a practical standpoint, the Executive is charged with enforcing the law (including the law as interpreted by the Court). What if he refuses to enforce the Supreme Court's rulings? (Irony.) What if he refuses to leave office at the end of his term? Then he is unaccountable for any crime--official or private. This is Putin's Russia.

A double mystery is the lack of self-defense by SCOTUS and the Free Press. Donald has been very clear about his disregard for the law and for courts who attempt to hold him to account for his words and deeds. He's said many times that the Press is the "Enemy of the People"--meaning his enemy, of course. Both of them should be shutting him down, for self-preservation! Are they really this clueless?

Expand full comment

Trump is a sociopath and as such has no bottom. To your point, SCOTUS and the media keep acting as if this new normal isn’t subject to utter lawlessness at the hands of an amoral criminal. Trump doesn’t have friends. He has sycophants, rubes and enemies. None of these categories is attractive.

The Justices discounted the President's ability to self-pardon. Again, this is moot if he never gives up the Power of the Executive Branch.

The real enemies of the people are the three old fucks on SCOTUS (excluding the liberals and sometimes the three religious kooks who can actually see reason at times). Expanding the court really is the only option. 13 districts =13 justices.
