Jesus Fucking Christ, seriously? with all the bullshit going on right now, some idiot — and, as I’m writing this, we don’t know who it was, or their ideology — shot and killed Charlie Kirk.
let me state right up top that political violence solves nothing, and only creates new problems — and oh boy, are we ever in a world of new problems.
right now, every establishment Democrat is denouncing political violence.
“Today’s act of political violence in Utah against Charlie Kirk is absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. We don’t have to agree on everything, but we should all agree on this: political violence is wrong, and has no place in our democracy.”
as for the Republicans, I wish I could say the same — but they’re not. even though (again, as of this writing) we have no idea what motivated the unknown killer, these dimestore detectives have already decided who to blame — because of course they have.
“The Left is the party of murder.”
pro tip for the Space Nazi: ‘the left’ is not a political party.
here’s the guy who knows more about rushing to judgement than all the judgement-rushers.
“for years those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis. this kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we’re seeing in our country and it must stop right now. my administration will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity and to other political violence, including the organizations that fund it and support it, as well as those who go after our judges and law enforcement officials.”
oh, I see. it’s the ‘rhetoric’ from the ‘radical left.’
you know, I’m so old, I remember when a future president of the United States called for a ‘second amendment solution’ to his political opponent.
it was just one of the ten thousand instances that would have ended anyone else’s political career, on the spot — but the worthless scribblers of the corporate-controlled media just shrugged and said ‘yeah well, whattaya gonna do.’
Donny called yesterday’s shooting a ‘dark moment’ — and it was. but you know what else was a ‘dark moment’?
three months ago, some psycho dressed himself up as a cop and knocked on the door of Democratic Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman. he then opened fire, killing Hortman and her husband. he also pulled the same shit at the home of Democratic State Senator John Hoffman, hospitalizing Hoffman and his wife. the shooter was some MAGAfied fuckwit, and when cops searched his car, they found a hit list with dozens of Democratic names on it.
did Republicans denounce political violence, or do any soul-searching about toning down their rhetoric? fuck no, they did not. they spread lies. in a now-deleted tweet, Utah Senator Mike Lee amplified a nutso conspiracy theory that the shooter had been sent by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz
as for Donny, he couldn’t even be bothered to call Walz on the phone.
Donny didn’t even show up for the funerals of the two slain Democrats. he was too busy golfing.
According to Fox News, Trump spent the morning golfing with Republican senators Eric Schmitt, Lindsey Graham, Rand Paul, and CIA director John Ratcliffe.
it’s bad enough that Republicans have ratcheted their partisan finger-pointing all the way to eleven, but for fuck’s sake, could our media please stop piling on? there they were, shoving their microphones into the faces of every Democrat they could find, and demanding denunciations of all the violent rhetoric from ‘the left,’ even though — and I cannot repeat this often enough — we don’t know anything about the culprit’s motives or ideology.
poor Elizabeth Warren, she’s at the end of her rope.
“oh, please. why don’t you start with the president of the United States? and every ugly meme he’s posted and every ugly word.”
weird how it’s only Democrats who have to run this gantlet. when Melissa Hortman and her husband were gunned down, do you remember the press hounding Republicans about toning down their rhetoric? I don’t.
by the way, does anyone on the planet think we’re going to get a competent investigation from this FBI, led by a Trumpist lackey whose only qualification is being a troll on the internet? former FBI special agent Asha Rangappa doesn’t think so.
“I have serious doubts as to whether, after all of its politically-motivated firings, the FBI has the capacity and expertise to actually investigate Kirk’s murder. The lawsuit filed today against Patel and the Bureau describes a complete clown show that leaves all of us less safe.”
and our unmanageable, dysfunctional government just got a fuckload more dysfunctional. after the shooting, Handy Oakley and An Appalling Lunatic went ape-shit on the floor of the House yesterday.
According to Politico, when Speaker Mike Johnson (R‑La.) asked members to rise for a prayer for Kirk, who was alive but hospitalized at the time, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R‑Colo.) pressed for it to be spoken aloud. Migrant Insider editor Pablo Manriquez tweeted that “partisan shouting” broke out after the moment of silence.
“Silent prayers get silent results,” she said, leading to jeers from Democrats, with some shouting about a school shooting in Colorado that also happened Wednesday in which three high school students were injured. Shouting can be heard on video of the moment posted to C-SPAN's Instagram account.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R‑Fla.) stood up and started shouting expletives at the Democrats before Johnson gaveled lawmakers down.
the uncharted territory we have been in since the Mad King’s second reign began just got a shitload more uncharted.
I don’t know where we go from here, but this would be a good fucking start.
“here’s an idea: maybe guns shouldn’t be so fucking easy to get.”
here’s your daily reminder that I can be found on Blue Sky at this link.
this is going to be my closing message for the foreseeable future:
practice self-care. do what you need to do to keep sane. if that means you need to disengage with my daily posts for a while, I get it. this community of ours will still be here when you return.
to all the people who have signed on in the days since the election, welcome aboard. settle in as we all try to deal with the shitfuckery that’s ahead of us.
we are all in this together, and we are all here for each other.

ugh. this was a post I didn't want to have to write.
hey, remember when the news on 9/11 used to be about 9/11?
you know, we could ignore all the awful news, and instead argue about 'gantlet' vs 'gauntlet'
