Ted Cruz is my senator. He was just reelected in a landslide over a great candidate and human being Colin Allred. Need I say more? Our country, and especially my state of Texas, is suffering from a mass psychosis at best, cult behavior to the Jim Jones level in the alternative, or most likely, we are suffering from total and complete ignorance and stupidity, or worse, moral, spiritual, cultural and political bankruptcy. As you can see, I am quite bearish on the USA. We are committing suicide as a nation, and at least 77 million people are quite pleased about it. We are SO, SO messed up. I do not see an awakening, I really do not.

Until there is campaign finance reform, we will never win another election. As long as billionaires can donate as much as they want, they will have ultimate control. All they have to do is see how much the democrats have put in for their candidate, then just raise their donations - again & again & again - for their candidate. And now that Musk has put trump back in office, there will never be campaign finance reform. And perhaps never another election, either. It disgusts me.

Speaking of fuckery in the form of voter suppression, the SAVE ACT in Congress threatens the ability to vote of lots of people, including women whose birth certificate name doesn’t match their married name. A Marriage certificate doesn’t count as proof of name change. Each time someone moves and needs to register to vote somewhere new, they have to jump through multiple hoops again. Not just women.

JD Vance’s mentor Peter Thiel said it was a shame that women got the vote. It’s not just him. Actual Republican congressmen suggest repealing the 19th Amendment.

It’s not blue anon, it’s facts about the huge purges of voter rolls, the removal of mail ballot drop boxes making it way less convenient to return those ballots, the army of Republican voters they recruited to do massive voter challenges, up to 4000 challenges made by 1 single person, mail ballots disqualified for very minor errors, or the person comparing the signatures decides they don’t match. My signature from 15 yrs ago doesn’t look exactly like my 74 yr old signature today.

Greg Abbott’s supporters (and Ted’s, and the whole GOP party’s) have major hooks into them via billions they have been plowing into these guys for decades. They remote control.

Dunn, Wilkes, et.al. are megalomaniacs includes Fertitta +++

They control everything from real estate, the electricity grid, petroleum and water rights, and the Texas government and legislature.

Fun fact: West Texas has abandoned old oil wells where the plugs are disintegrating and widespread water aquifer breeches are occurring. This is turning what was once scenic open land with many unique features and species into a wasteland. It breaks my heart.

Dweebs and rednecks lured by evangelical churches vote for them like lemmings. They have screwy ideas fed by Fox, Jones, Brannon, and their local “heretic pastors” go into this protoplasm mishmash that are their hive minds. They are all tied together with Trump.

Our once fine public education systems have become polluted and diluted by righteous evangelical wing nuts, with Abbott still pressing for Texas taxpayers to pay for Christian school vouchers. It’s been voted down numerous times yet he comes back like a whackamole. Shit, we already pay their church and Christian school property taxes. This irks me no end.

Taxes are up hugely since Abbott invited California to move in with us. We get nothing for the hikes. Constant road work and dangerous traffic. Gee thanks Abbott.

Austin area is running out of water. Drought plus overdevelopment. Now Elon has relocated to that area. Oh joy.

Trump comes for visits and affirmation rallies and meetings. Our pathetic governor sits looking up at Trump like he’s the second coming. It’s nauseating.

I was born in Texas. It’s my home for over 60 years. I hate that these assholes have wrecked what once was a beautiful state.

I read Jeff’s posts because they help me cope with the absurd reality that is scaring the shit out of me right now.

And yeah, I think Elon’s ninja interns could have messed with our election results. The big donation and the timing? Coincidence? 🤔 But who would look into it? Nobody. One day, maybe the EU or the UK will figure it out as part of a wider investigation into Elon. We may never know.

Clearly, we need to encourage smarter, better people to run for office. I can understand why they wouldnt want to, given the cesspool our government has become...but people with a modicum of intellect and decency need to start getting involved in politics...start at the local level. Mayors, city councils and county boards.

We keep electing criminals and wonder why we get the same results. People like Clueless Kevin need to sit down and shut the fuck up. And then trash like Ted Cruz. “a slimy, shapeless mass" 😂😂😂 Hilarious. Hang in there everyone. ✌️

I am struggling with how we get the message to the rural "red voter" about what has been happening in DC since Trump took office. Everyone votes and then goes about their business and doesn't pay attention. When they finally wake up it will be too late.

My dream is that Blue State governors send out a message on the cell network for people to pay attention to what's happening. It would definitely get covered by MSM right? Right?

We can protest and shout til the cows come home but until the uninformed Fox News audience gets a clue about what's going on we are in danger of losing democracy sooner than expected. Daydreamin.

Happy NOT MY PRESIDENT Day to all who celebrate.

Remember there are protests in all states today!

I totally agree with that. I've envisioned town halls, hosted by Democrats who will answer questions and present the facts. Ads in small town newspapers that they read. Have Mayor Pete or Tim Walz or ??? commit to some in medium sized towns and counties. It would get great coverage.... Call It the Bring America Back Townhall. I'm spit balling here. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think Pete would be an excellent choice. Tim is a little busier with MN but also a great communicator.

I have in fact been begging Pete on social media to please do a daily information program to the masses. He could even work from home lol.

Your suggestion of local newspapers is also a good one.

The AG of NC (Jeff Jackson) puts out a daily newsletter too, but it needs to get to the right people.

UGH! Fox (not so much) News has accomplished exactly what it set out to do and it's so frustrating.

Where are the local democratic parties? I don't see them doing anything where I live in northern California. And, in my opinion, this is a huge mistake. They're leaving space for misinformation to take top billing.

So true. We have an underground in Berkeley, but it doesn't matter, the developers buy their own candidates and we have so many newcomers who want to live here (not immigrants, just people who didn't grow up here) and who don't understand Berkeley issues and who vote for developer issues. I won't even go into my city councilwoman, I let my husband deal with her.

People from all over the world want to live in CA. Wealthy people. It was forever thus. We’ve had the Coastal Commision and good environmental laws, but money always wins out in the end. Because the DNC doesn’t share the money with the state & county democratic parties, they are underfunded terribly. Do NOT give to the DNC, & write or call your senators & Rep & tell them why you are not donating to it. Donate to individual candidates & good orgs, but not the DNC until they make a commitment to share the money & we have proof that they are.!!

I like this idea, Susan. Something needs to be done to get the message out to people that they have been lied to. No one else will do it and there are people that can tell it like it is….Moskovitz,, Crockett, Shapiro, Newsom, etc. The cult is too entrenched in the lying on Fox, CNN, etc. I guess it’s not hurting them where they live yet. Give it two weeks.

actually, because I went through an educational system—starting in 1950—that actually fostered curiosity and made one WANT to look outside whatever expertise one was focused on at the time. Our country is moving back to the strict Daddy mode where you regurgitate what you are told and no sass back. It’s been going on some time, particularly with the horrendous “teaching to the test” requirements. Those tests were meant to help find weaknesses, but instead they PROMOTED weaknesses in anything but “yessir.”

It suddenly hit me: we were the generation raised under the theories of Dr. Spock. It was the great era of what George Lakoff called the "nurturant parenting" frame, which stresses what he taught. "His ideas influenced several generations of parents, encouraging them to be more flexible and affectionate with their children and to treat them as individuals." The backlash against this arose in part because of his anti war position on Vietnam, and the likes of Spiro Agnew hated him; under Reagan and after, the model of "strict father" frame was pushed to counter what was seen as the disorder arising from the war- protest, civil rights, 2nd wave feminist generation. "Permissiveness" became the "woke" of its day. This, combined with the feeling that education, including college, was really a super trade school aimed at jobs jobs jobs so that arts, history, humanities were a waste of precious time (and perhaps precious bodily fluids?)--this combination has I think narrowed a whole lot of peoples' chances for a fullness of life they don't even know they are missing.

It obviously isn't a lock step requirement of any generation to be like the trends--but I think Dr. Spock started a trend that really gave a big swath of a generation "something completely different" for a while.

I keep scrolling through breaking news hoping to find something encouraging about what's being done to put a halt to all this. Lawsuits and judges blocking drumpf's evil orders just don't cut it. Amy Klobuchar and Jasmine Crocket etc cleverly stating the obvious out loud doesn't help much either. Protests in every state are a noble fight but how many will it take and for how long? And what am I doing about it? Nothing. Nothing at all besides being worried and pissed off about it. Except, this is all about control. It's not about money. or the unborn, or Jesus, or jobs, paper straws, what people do in their bedroom, the Gulf of Mexico, Greenland etc etc etc. It's about the desire to control everyone and everything. It's as close to being God as they will ever get. So I guess it's like they say. As long as I don't agree, don't comply, stay true to what I believe is right, moral and humane maybe I am doing something about it. All of us here resisting are doing something about. Ghandi said "they will have my dead body, but not my obedience." I hope I can be like that.
