I can't say I blame you. I not very proud to be an American these days. More like horrified. Humankind in general has been acting sh*tty since we learned to walk upright at different times in different places in our human history. We haven't evolved much.
If I were an alien civilization looking at us in the old Star Trek way as in "are they worthy?" - no. No we are not.

ItтАЩs not just bad news itтАЩs bad behavior. There are people who I thought I knew for 20+ years who I do not recognize today. We almost had a throw down in a Thai restaurant parking lot over Trump. People who I thought had common sense have become unhinged MAGA and these are well educated Caucasian men who I know should know better. It is extremely disheartening and leaves me feeling very hopeless for the future if this country. If I look to history and the Civil War that divided families along ideology- how did we as a human species ever think the darker skinned among us were тАЬ less than?тАЭ But we did. Hundreds of thousands of people died over it. Lives were destroyed - and thinking back on it - we never recovered and never resolved those issues. The appear again today. The men who were supposed to rise and solve them failed. Or purposefully sabotaged their resolution. The giant in human emotional evolution had been murdered - by a gun. The same weapons that plague the United States today. Except now the citizens are just as armed as the armed forces. Hopeless.
I agree with everything you say here except the last bit. I donтАЩt think weтАЩre hopeless. ThereтАЩs a lot of evil in this world but thereтАЩs good too. Salvageable. From the ashes of disaster grow the roses of success!

Being fair, we are not quite as bad as news media makes us out to be - bad news just sells better - but as a whole, I don't think we're doing amazing.
