Government efficiency idea: Stop funding a ketamine-fueled billionnaire’s hare-brained fantasy that we should vacate Earth in favor of Mars, and to do that we need to blow up giant taxpayer-funded rockets over Texas and Florida that he imagines to be mechanical extensions of his penis.

Problem is, they keep messaging the MAGAs with their "alternate Constitution", wherein it doesn't actually say/mean what we were all taught. Sorta like they all bastardized the 2nd Amendment, they're now doing the same with the 1st and the 14th, with more to come.

There aren’t enough prison cells to house the police of this country if this becomes the master plan “of the people, for the people and by the people Walt!!

Expand full comment
Walt Svirsky's avatar

The police, the military, the National Guard, how will they behave? Will they follow the orders of a tyrannical conman determined to destroy our democracy, or will they stand up for the rule of law that has been the heart of our country from day 1? They, too, will be split and general consensus and a prudent action plan could be very hard to come by.

Zija Pulp's avatar

This is the thing that’s really scaring me. Trump has this way of demanding that people do as he says and he’ll even say something’s legal when it isn’t. Will the military follow the Constitution, to which they’ve pledged their oath, or will they be swayed to do the completely illegitimate thing? I keep thinking that as more time passes and citizens, even MAGAs, become irate and frustrated, the likelihood of martial law being put in place will lessen. That is, that the military will not go along with President Knucklehead.

George in Atlanta's avatar

This is the $60,000 question. If it came to that, we may discover there is no "they", that individual commanders and soldiers or officers will respond in a myriad of ways to illegal orders. There may also be no "prudent", since to be prudent may be to capitulate to totalitarian rule. For safety, you understand. The fallacy of it not being safe is clear, but that won't stop frightened people from doing so anyway.

Might the country fragment into a civil war? Maybe, but the possibility is that things have gone on long enough, and people have been hurt enough (certainly by the time it escalates to that level) that the battle lines could be along lines other than have been previously thought of. It's all bets are off time, anybody who claims to see a through-line to any outcome is blowing smoke up your ass.

I don’t think “we” includes us or anyone else outside the Project 2025 inner circle after they’ve lived in their special cities and killed the entire population minus their servants and care-takers. I don't care what treaty the US and Finland have signed for Ice Breakers that we don't have because Trump didn't understand the importance before. You think that rejection by her own father doesn't harm a child? Then there's the thousands of people you fired without notice. You think that doesn't harm them. Are you under the impression that everybody has a couple of billion dollars stashed in their back pocket to fall back on if they suddenly lose their job? Those people have mortgages and car payments; groceries, utilities, clothes and shoes for their kids, etc. It takes time to apply for and start receiving unemployment compensation, if they're even eligible; and they might not be because in most cases being fired renders you ineligible for unemployment. While I have my issues with Nicholas Kristoff, he did publish an article a couple of weeks ago that documented the people who have actually died because of your gutting of USAID. Children have died. Pregnant women have died. More will die. Did you really think no one would be harmed by the sudden cessation of funding to these programs? Truly, you're right up their with your "First Buddy", dumpy, in being the two most unself-aware people in the world.

SO articulate.

I have something you lack: an identity based on reality, not a cosplay cult.

I’ve known and loved transsexuals and transvestites. I wouldn’t give a transgender my used snot. And I am in an interracial marriage with another man. I refer to him by the pronoun of his biological sex.

Just one more question for you

Discrete Music. Have you ever stopped to consider that trans people simply want to live their lives in peace? To enjoy the freedom to go about their daily activities without being harassed, whispered about, or insulted?

I am neither gay nor trans. Yet, I'd imagine the daily life of a trans person is full of challenges. I have observed how unkind people can be to those they perceive as different from what they view as "normal."

Your comments indicate that your belief is that one's gender can't be changed. You're entitled to believe whatever you choose. Those who don't agree with you are also entitled to believe whatever they choose. We are free to have differing beliefs and values. However, we don't have to be enemies. We can disagree and still be civil and show respect for one another as human beings.

Expand full comment
Discrete Music's avatar

No, I never have, because they behave exactly oppositely. They are nuisances about their magic pronouns, they get coworkers fired for forgetting that they changed pronouns yesterday, they suppress research that would show that affirmation has no real benefits.

As a married gay man I must oppose them because they would replace male and female with “gender identity,” which is no more tangible than “soul.”

They don’t want peace; they want all of society to follow along with their preposterous biological nonsense and they call anything less “genocide.”

And people are getting sick and tired of them.

And don’t call me “transphobic.” I am not afraid of men wearing lipstick.

I am transmisic.

Edit: “gender” was invented only because “sex” sounds like what people do in bed. To speak of changing gender is like speaking of recoloring one’s soul. Meaningless.

And humans cannot change sex. Anyone who wants to needs psychiatric help.

Have I been civil?

Expand full comment
Alex Dash's avatar

Yes, in your response you have been civil. Thank you.

Unfortunately, the most common car in my neighborhood is a Tesla. Some people have taken to putting stickers on the back of their car saying “I bought this car before I knew that Elon was an asshole”.

Expand full comment
HI2thDoc's avatar

As you guys know, ironically many Tesla owners are lefties who are trying to reduce their carbon footprint, specifically the earlier S-3-X-Y models. This was before we knew he was a Nazi. He caught lightning in a bottle by dint of media portrayals, the iconic name of the brand, more cachet than the weird looking Nissan Leaf and the ho-hum Chevy Volt, and his contrived image of being a genius, but mechanically the cars weren't very good. It has been said that every single Tesla ever built has been recalled. This is a record of sorts.
