Susan Niemann's avatar

It's cause you are the BEST! I speak for many when I say we look forward to you every morning. NBC should hire YOU! ✌️

Sharon C Storm's avatar

Susan got it right! You are the best, and you keep me laughing in these days where nothing is guaranteed. Don’t stop now, we need you!

Randy Dyck's avatar

Ha ha ha. You working for NBC? Maybe after 9:oopm LOL

Susan Niemann's avatar

Sooooo...they might have to bleep a word or two. 😂😂

Mark L's avatar

Not doable! Lose the effectivness

Tess's avatar

But we’d be just tuning in!!!!!

Marian Goldsmith's avatar

Thanks all for this thread. It gave me an unexpected healthy mid-afternoon guffaw!

un poco loco's avatar

Absolutely -- the biggest problem there is that NBC doesn't have much tolerance for F-bombs. So fuck them lol.

Janine's avatar

That's ok they hired Ronna which is basically saying fuck 10000 times over. They fired her so it's now down to 5000.

Jeff saying fuck is a Shakespearian rhapsody !!!

NBC should be so lucky !

Linda Weide's avatar

I love the tongue-in-cheek tone, and the information is there. Too bad for the FCC.

Old Man's avatar

Jeff might want to consider, if he got an offer from NBC [never be competent] that his ratings might be reduced because maynof us have DROPPED their crap.

Susan Niemann's avatar

Never Be Competent. Thats awesome! 😂😂

Louise's avatar

I read you every day, I just don't comment very much. At 75, I've become weary of the fight I've been participating in since Vietnam.

Katharine Hill's avatar

Hey Louise. At 78 I hear you. But we can’t give up the ship so to speak!

Rhoda Ozen's avatar

Katharine, I’m the young one lol, I’m 68 and reading Jeff’s column is something I need to do so my day starts out with a good does of what makes me happy daily!

Rhoda Ozen's avatar

Oh dayum! I misspelled dose!! How embarrassing lol

Linda Fulcher's avatar

I'm 74, and damn, I'm tired too. But I won't give up or give in.

Sharon C Storm's avatar

I’m 83, and ditto. We cannot let it go, we have to stay committed to democracy.

Bill Lawrence's avatar

I'm 84 and still in the fight...and will stay that way until I no longer can,

Teri's avatar

67, will go out resisting!!

Richard Reynolds's avatar

Everybody posting is so damn old. I'm almost 72 and in my mind still 18. Thanks Jeff, your wit is the Fountain of Youth!

Old Man's avatar

I’m almost 80 and don’t feel older tham78.

Old Man's avatar

Someday, i’ll stop making typos. Maybe…

arne link's avatar

I know, I was struck by the ages readers posted. I thought we were a young and hardy bunch with a tremendous sense of humor. Wait, we are!

Marie Martin's avatar

I am young and hardy at nearly 76. Never felt better. Especially when laughing which Jeff's work keeps supplying. LMAO waaaaay too often here. So crazy it's silly. World's gone mad. I'm here for the ride.

Geoff Anderson's avatar

I used to follow you when I was on twitter, and I missed that when I bailed from that increasingly nihilistic shithole, and I am so glad I found you here.

antlisa1201's avatar

I quit X too. Everyone should in my opinion.

Megan Ross's avatar

I wholeheartedly agree! I'd love to see X, formerly known as TWITter, go completely bankrupt.

Marie Martin's avatar

Whose Elmo? His name is Leon, isn't it?

un poco loco's avatar

I prefer Elno. As in "oh, HELL no!" lol

James Starr's avatar

I left immediately when Elmo took over... I didnt even wait for it to change to X,

I havent looked back since !

247kath's avatar

Ex Xer here too. Left when racist baby Melon Musk took over

KL Pierce's avatar

Definitely! Twitter has devolved into a cesspool of disinformation!

Brianna Amore's avatar

I check in every once in awhile as my account is still active and yup, it's still a shit hole.

un poco loco's avatar

I didn't quit, I was kicked off for saying bad (and totally fucking verifiable) things about Gov Dr Evil Hot Wheels, but I'm damned if I'll retract anything just to get back on. I meant every word of it. Besides, it's much better here... :)

Megan Ross's avatar

Thank you for dumping TWITter! I wish more people would do the same. Let Elon Musk lose once in awhile...

Kay-El's avatar

Same! Was happy to quit that wasteland but overjoyed to find Jeff here.

Dawn Erickson's avatar

Exactly what happened to me. I was so happy to find Jeff on Substack.

Catherine's avatar

I think I found Jeff here via when he would repost Twitter comments on Facebook. I was like, "who is this smart, hilarious, on-point person?". So I think I did some clicking around and thankfully landed here! Beyond thankful 🙏

Bill Lawrence's avatar

I quit Twitter one day after Musk took it over. I knew he'd destroy it.

Geoff Anderson's avatar

I stayed for a while. As a product manager, there was a community that was worth hanging out for, but in December 2022 when Elon played asshat to journalists covering his hypocrisy on the ElonJet account, I just logged out.

About 3 months later I logged back in to see if *perhaps* it had calmed down.

Nope, I was inundated with rather graphic porn, and the worst fucking ads. So I deleted my account. I knew that was where I would end up, but I will admit I am sad, as the community I had there has been blown up, and it doesn't seem that it has reconstituted anywhere else.

Bill Lawrence's avatar

Elon is like Trump in some ways, except that he has some areas in which he is somewhat competent--but when he strays, as in X, he is destructive.

Janine's avatar

Aftrr reading this it prompted me to finally go in and deactivate my account.

What need to be deactivated is our national security connected to starlink

Talk about a national security risk.

Dianne Moore's avatar

At almost 81, I enjoy your outrageous self everyday! Finding humor these days, especially in the truth, is a wonderful gift. Laughter is the best medicine. Thank you.

Dawn Erickson's avatar

I’m 80 as well. Jeff says all the words I never used in my younger days - but I sure do now! 😄

Sharon C Storm's avatar

I’m 83, and I now use those words every day too.

arne link's avatar

Ha, ha, ha. My Peeps! Swearing releases tension and God knows we need that.

Old Man's avatar

You must have be sheltered in your youth.

Dawn Erickson's avatar

It was a different world then and I had my first child at 19. I still find it hard to swear in front of them. 😊

Mark L's avatar

You keep me smiling. Like when you open a newspaper to a great political cartoon, makes you guffaw, and think at the same time.

Thanks bunches

Little Nell's avatar

I’m surprised there aren’t more people signed up for your posts. Why can’t more people be like me?

Deb Martina's avatar

You are the best!! We surely appreciate you keeping us informed and educated. We shall never be brainwashed if we hang with you. Thank you for all you do ❣️

Megan Ross's avatar

WooHoo! Congratulations! 🎉

MountainBoyMike's avatar

dude, I didn't sign up just because I like your daily posts, I signed up cause I NEED these fucking daily posts!!!...I need someone like you who speaks - and writes - in my language!!...YOU are definitely a member of my tribe, Jeff...these daily posts are ESSENTIAL to me!!!...thank you and keep on keepin on!

Deborah Hunter's avatar

You are the HIGH POINT of my day. I just shake my head at the MAGA total morons. You can't make this stuff up. What's not funny are the millions of mental midgets that actually believe this nonsense.

Lynn Horsky's avatar

Thanks for calling out these detestable liars and cheats.

Reading your spiels makes me happy that someone is clearing the decks of all their irresponsible screeds. I'm glad I subscribed.

Carol C's avatar

I learned about Jeff in the W Bush years from Smirking Chimp, which I still support. I get Thom Hartmann, Amanda Marcotte, and many other POVs for my voluntary donation.

Catherine's avatar

Wow, that's cool, wish I had known of Jeff during w bush years, those were rough too. Now it's rough, multiplied by 10, on crack!

Colleen L.'s avatar

Always! You make my day

Tess's avatar

We’re loving every post Jeff!

Lamorindalinda's avatar

You are my morning jolt! Even better than coffee! Thank you Jeff for keeping us sane! You are the BEST!

Mike Hammer's avatar

Its was Hillary Clinton’s fault as she was told a million times not to zoom with George Soros while piloting the ship.

Sharon C Storm's avatar

It looks like all the ‘regulars’ are here. Great to see you all!

Mike Hammer's avatar

Jeff really knows how to throw a party!

George A. Polisner's avatar

Thanks Jeff. Not that anyone here needs a reminder, however pretty much everyone mentioned by @JeffTiedrich would be the first group of a*holes to comment after a previous or next mass shooting to tell us "now is not the time to politicize this tragedy."

Instead, every semi-human who makes big bucks selling conspiracies to the willfully ignorant, and those who are the true believers, America's talking horses with a microphone and an internet connection -is off demanding the resignation of anyone with a (D) after their name.

It's a serious reminder as to why any meaningful democracy requires a well-educated, well-informed, and engaged society. Not just a bunch of people rabidly foaming while watching Fox 'News' telling them who to hate and blame for their narrow little lives. Anything to keep from picking up a book.

Sam Maruca's avatar

Likely we are too stupid for self-government.

George A. Polisner's avatar

It's been said that people get the government they deserve. But far too many good people still aspiring and working toward democracy (and equity and justice) to give up.

Mike Hammer's avatar

But if we don’t vote we deserve what we get.

Debbie Shapiro's avatar

I’m so sad about the men who lost their lives in the bridge incident.

Mike Hammer's avatar

And their families who have to put up with conspiracy theories.

Fastball Fredo's avatar

Thanks Jeff.. all these MAGAS have left is hate, fear and conspiracy.. they sound as if they are all barking mad hatters. I’m glad you posted Alex Jones, American certified nut job.. a few days ago Alex had a broadcast with Victor Soloyov, the head propagandist for Russian state TV.. my question is why? Why haven’t MSM picked up on this? Why is Jones spouting Putin talking points to his audience of nut bags? Well, at least in Budapest last night there was a huge demonstration against Donald’s good buddy and dictator wannabe Orban.. Have a great day Jeff and fellow travelers.

steve robertshaw's avatar

Here's the problem - the likes of Alex Jones and his ilk mostly have a small audience (relatively speaking) of true believers who are simply lost causes. They're mostly just broadcasting into thin air or the digital ether equivalent. So anytime a media site or network with a large audience publicizes these morons, it gets picked up by all the other major media in a race to the bottom (for entertainment ratings) and makes whatever nonsense was spewed into a "story" that competes for viewers/readers attention with the actual REAL stories being reported. Results in an even dumber and more ignorant national audience and will absolutely peel off a few more of them from believing the truth.

Megan Ross's avatar

Unfortunately that's small audience is full of a bunch of very dangerous people. Alex Jones seems to really attract the crazies.

Alex Jones, king POS, is still trying to get out of bankruptcy court. His plan is to pay the Sandy Hook families only $55million over 10 YEARS ?!…. What about the rest of the $1.1 billion dollars?

Donna Kazo's avatar

I learned a new term from Dr. Heather Cox Richardson’s most recent “Letter from an American” last night, when she wrote about the Dali crash: “engagement farming.” Alex Jones and other lowlifes post hysterical stories and when other conspiracy nuts click on them, ka-ching! It’s how he got so rich after Sandy Hook, the rat bastard.

It's just evil that they monetize.

gmaxx's avatar

What the F is wrong with these people? I hate to even use "people" as somehow they are not. And I hope Laura Loomer's family members all die of cancer. What a piece of sh$t she is.

Deborah Hunter's avatar

Yeah, she's about the worst. I do believe in Karma though. Give a-holes enough rope and they will hang themselves. People have a way of getting what's coming to them - may be years down the road and may not be the punishment you have wanted for them. Stay tuned for her because her remark was just plain cruel and utterly unnecessary.

Geoff Anderson's avatar

I'm not sure I understand where you are coming from, care to elaborate?

J/K it is gold, all gold!

Loomer is nothing but an attention whore.

Mike Hammer's avatar

A Trump whore to be more precise.

Mike Hammer's avatar

It’s all about bringing pain to the “libs”, whatever the cost.

Deborah Hunter's avatar

Her comment was cruel. There's hateful and there's the next step up. She climbed the ladder with that remark.

Kay-El's avatar

Don’t let the truth get in the way of some dog whistles.

Mike Hammer's avatar

Truth? “Truth is not truth!”

Kay-El's avatar

Hmmm. Does that mean it’s truthiness instead? 😉

Mike Hammer's avatar

Not even “truth lite.”

Louise's avatar

Blatant racism. That is what the election in 2016 brought us. The fact that a man who was once sued by the U.S. Government for housing discrimination rose to the highest office in the land, meant it wasi fine for everyone to take their white hoods out of the closet. I'm sorry to say this about the country I love; but racism is in our country's DNA. The difference today is that people get away with being obvious about it. When I was growing up, especially if you went to an east coast liberal college; you had little idea who the racists were.

Gayna's avatar

Só is sexism and rule of white men. A RAPIST is considered a candidate for President of the United States! Any woman voting for that piece of shit is a candidate for hell’s special place for women who placate disgusting men so they can perpetuate yet more crimes on women. As for the men who vote for him, well, it explains a lot about little coddled assed babies who are terrified of their stupidity and lack of respect and intelligence being found out when they are bypassed by smarter, kinder, and more tolerant women, lgbtq, and immigrants.

Mark L's avatar

Money and Power and get this , divorced from Reality

Megan Ross's avatar

The simple fact is, that the cargo ship completely lost power and the local pilot captaining the ship immediately jumped into action and called Mayday, most likely saving hundreds of lives. These fuckwads at Fox Noise and other right-wing morons are nothing but hatemongers and chaos junkies. How are these people still allowed to maliciously slander people with absolutely NO consequences?! I'm beyond enraged at these motherfkrs and am ready to rumble at this point.

Amber's avatar

I’m no expert but a lot of the crippling infrastructure in this nation was built by the octogenarians in Congress. Well, the hard working people of their time and lots of slave labor if we include railroads….No expert but maybe the problem is the retirement home called Congress. Maybe the replacement bridge won’t be named after the racist author of the national anthem!

Deb's avatar

Retirement home in Congress- brilliant!

Susan Niemann's avatar

Excellent reporting, Jeff. It is beyond sanity that the nut jobs on the right would say such incredulously stupid shit. This kind of blatant racism is contributing to society's ills.

And Laura Loomer? CEE You Next Tuesday, BITCH. 🤦‍♀️

Geoff Anderson's avatar

Reminds me of when I got 3 days in Twit-Mo for calling Toni Lahren "Tampon Lampshade"

Totally worth it.

(and seriously, that was lockup worthy?)

Kay-El's avatar

Getting banhammered on Xitter is a badge of honor. Totally worth it.

Susan P Thatcher's avatar

Any time you think they've hit the bottom....they go lower. WTF is a Laura Loomer and why would any

DonP's avatar

Didn't know the history of the ship, but other real news outlets reported it lost power prior to the crash. It was also reported that the captain radioed an SOS and explained the situation to the harbormaster, who informed the MD authorities, who then shut down the ends of the bridge before anyone else could cross it. The last time I checked, the first responders were still in search and rescue mode, so they must think some of those missing are still alive. But that info is a bunch of hours old now.

As for the MAGAts, well, it's becoming harder to fault them for thinking the way they do. After all, if you're only going to have one "news" source, and that source feeds you bullshit all day, then I expect becoming a mushroom is inevitable.

un poco loco's avatar

One news source pointed out that even though the harbormaster had almost no time to act, they did manage to clear the bridge of the traffic so the only people left on it were workers who had helped clear it (6 of whom were still missing the last I heard) -- it could have been MUCH worse.

Lynn Stolp's avatar

Whoa, Jeff, you might have managed to find the assholiest assholes, the looniest lunatics, the vilest of the vile, and the stupidist stupids this time. I would say un-fucking-believable, but nothing is un-fucking-believable with these racist morons.

Deb Martina's avatar

This ☝️☝️☝️

Demetria Livingston's avatar

Just wait till Sporkfoot, shit for brains finds out that the six people lost in the Key Bridge collapse are all immigrant construction workers on the bridge. She won’t be sending “thoughts and prayers” any longer.
