In January 2025, Leavitt disclosed in 17 amended campaign filings $326,370 in unpaid campaign debts she had failed to disclose for several years.[24] Roughly $200,000 of the debt was composed of illicit campaign donations made in excess of campaign finance limits she never paid back, in violation of campaign finance laws.

The only problem with that is that Vance is capable of even more damage. He is slicker than Trump, and equally as capable of cruelty for the fun of it. He admitted that he made up the story of the immigrants eating cats and dogs because he thought it would help him prove a point (that immigrants are bad even though the eating cats and dogs part was a lie)? It's very baffling. But Vance is every bit as onboard with Project 2025 as Trump. He is just as frightening as Trump.

I hadn't heard that theory, and I know next to nothing about Amy Chua, but as to "what University student has time to write a book" -- over the decades I've known and/or known about university students who had time to organize movements, start and run businesses (didn't Zuckerberg launch the proto-Facebook platform while at Harvard), hold down full-time jobs, etc. In some cases, they had someone else at least assist with the coursework.

How similar are the titles really?? "Hymn" and "Elegy" are both musical genres, but "elegy" is much more common in literary works, especially poetry. I'd bet good money that Chua had Julia Ward Howe in mind when she choose her "Battle Hymn" title, but other than that . . . Elegies are generally about sorrow or loss. "Battle Hymn" suggests anything but.

Not just social security checks, but how about when the Avian flu crosses the barrier to Humans with Kennedy's new plan to just let it be. I was reading someone explain that 500 million birds can mutate and end up having more chances to cross that barrier to humans.

Or, how about the next big hurricane that hits and there is no NOAA to predict it, and no FEMA to rescue, clean up the mess and help rebuild because that is now being punted to the states and communities who are suffering the damage?

How about when their children cannot get vaccines on schedule because Kennedy does not want us buying them. He says he is going to be studying the polio vaccine, which I would like to know if he has had. If not, let us send him to a country where they don't vaccinate and let nature take care of Kennedy.

I was saying while my book club was reading project 2025, that I was expecting the backlash to really happen in the fall when the local schools are no longer getting federal funds and parents are faced with all sorts of loss of supports. Parents of children with autism will be too busy trying to get services back to help Kennedy out with his specious retesting of vaccines as being the cause of Autism. Parents of children with disabilities are some of the fiercest fighters for their children that you will see. I say, more power to parents to lead the fight. Same for anyone who is caring for someone with a disability. I am one of those people because my mom has dementia. So, we shall see. I believe Trump will once again feel what it is like to be unpopular.

I have been fortunate enough to travel a goodly amount in my lifetime, and it breaks my heart to think that asshole was elected because so many Americans are anti-immigration and anti-people on the other side of artificial, man-made borders.

Most of those who wish to emigrate here are good people, braver than us American suburbanites, willing to risk a lot to try for a better future. They are interesting, often bi- or multi-lingual (which you sure can't say for the average American let alone the average MAGA), usually better informed about history and global current events than those cohorts, too.

Many of them do jobs the rest of us don't want; others are excellent scientists, health care providers and researchers. Some are fleeing horrible conditions that are no fault of their own.

It just galls me and saddens me that the richest country in the world is so "I got mine, screw you" and that so many sub-par, inferior, ignorant freaks here think they are superior just because an accident of birth landed them with opportunities others can only fantasize about.

When I see what's going on with the Venezuelans, Salvadorean prisons I can't help but remember when CF47 proclaimed "I will be a dictator on Day One!". Then the mainstream media almost broke their legs rushing to sanewash the hell out of that statement breathlessly declaring he only meant one day. Even Hannity gave him the opportunity to clarify. I always read it as he'll be a dictator as long as he wanted...and once he had the taste of blood and power there would be no stopping him. As you can tell I'm still SO mad at the incompetence of the media....SOO much nitpicking of Harris/Walz and simultaneous airbrushing of Trump/Vance
