I wonder if it's fear. A terror of letting go of Trump. He magnifies the chaos and unrest and then takes on the role of savior. Think about it - climate change (fires, floods, heat waves), political unrest, the increasing disparities in our society, the possibility of war. Trump increases the chaos and sense of danger; and then presents himself as some kind of savior. Various people have been labeling MAGA's as cultists. How could they not be offended? How could they possibly listen?
Fear may be a very critical factor in their difficulty responding to our reason. Ask people to let go of what they perceive as a life raft when they don't know how to swim would be terrifying. And so one holds on tight, even if it's to someone like Trump. I'm suggesting we inject more compassion into our rhetoric. As Pamela L reminds us, a little kindness goes long way. IMHO
You could be right with some of these people. It would be like trying to talk to a 3rd grader, tho. I've also heard some of them say that Russia is a nice country where the people look happy and everything is fine. 🤦♀️ I have no answer... its definitely as cult, where racism is celebrated.
