I think Obama said the quiet part outloud at some point during the speech -- he told the "brothers" that they might be hesitant to vote for a woman. He called them out on that (he said "brothers" which is why I put it in quotes). Gosh I hope we have moved beyond the male-female thing in politics.

I think it’s gotten better , but it’s still out there. Her experience & competence & believability , might sway many men, and they vote for a better future, but there are still neanderthals amongst us.
