Because Trump mouthanus is circling the drain over the shut down and everything else, and it’s a big game of chicken as to what’s gonna happen with the shutdown https://thistleandmoss.com/p/the-trump-shutdown-the-ultimate-bukkake

The shutdown is going to cause mass firing among multiple agencies, and the truth of the matter is Trump won’t be able to avert responsibility because he’s the one steering the GOP into not negotiating over the government shutting down. All the while he is starting to fall apart because he’s trying to attain more and more power, likely because he assumes that it’s not long before the entire country turns against him.

I have to point out that when Ted Cruz came out and said that no person should be prosecuted for free speech, that was a bad sign for Trump

Carl Selfe's avatar

The administration’s rubes were not elevated for skill, integrity, or experience. They were chosen because they would respond as told, sneer when ordered, and parrot whatever falsehood the moment required. Credentials meant nothing; loyalty was everything. In place of statesmen, we got lackeys. Instead of leaders, we got frauds. Sycophantic liars, hand-picked to serve a demented felon. Dallas was not a leftist. Leftists don’t shoot immigrants.

Don't forget "Looks good on-camera."

Excuse me. Have you seen Kash Patel?

Ann Anderson's avatar

Notable exception but telegenic in his own freaky way.

longtimebirdwatcher's avatar

None of them look good on camera.

Ann Anderson's avatar

Well, yes, but I should have clarified that we're talking about the Fox standard.

Major Kong's avatar

Kash is like a train wreck. Horrifying but you can't look away.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

oops, just wrote similarly - about a car-wreck. Hadn't seen yours first. Great minds? ;)

zuzu's avatar

Kash is looking away and at you and a thousand yards down the road all at the same time.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

As in - can't tear one's eyes away from an awful freeway crash. Yup. I refer to him as Krazy-eyes Patel. My own mother had those same eyes and she WAS hair-trigger tempered, extremely abusive and yes, KRAZY. HIS reactive and snide nasty temper is barely kept in check - flaring out at questioners recently. He's assuredly a ticking time-bomb imho.

T L Mills's avatar

Part of that "flying into a temper" thing is part policy when (not) answering unwelcome questions. That's the new Trump standard: stall, rephrase it as a question you can answer, refuse to answer, fly into a tirade.

But then Hot Lips Leavitt looks pretty sometimes, until she opens them.

Mary Lou Williams's avatar

She's great at pursing her lips and turning her head from potential naysayers.

zuzu's avatar

She’s unaccountably had a lot of work done, too. Had a perfectly good nose narrowed down to a little sharp blade when contouring could have done the same thing without blocking her airways.

But she probably doesn’t know anyone gay enough or draggy enough to teach her how.

Linda McCaughey's avatar

Honestly, how do these base grovelers live with themselves? Have they no pride? No standards? And, how do their families live with them? If I had to claim one of these sycophants as any relation, I'd rather change my name and flee to anywhere far, far away. Sheesh.

How long will this cold snap in Hell last, do you suppose...?

The gop is in control of the federal government- there should be no shut down. Of course it's to fire people. Their rubes eat it up.

john augustine's avatar

its actually thune and johnson who told chump not to negotiate

George in Atlanta's avatar

Plausible. Except Trump responds to nothing but the high-pitched weasel voices in his head. Whatever Thune or Johnson say lasts only until he hears from the next person.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

that high-pitched voice isn't miller's - or is his own even higher? Hard to tell, lately. That absolute gibberish of 'the steel edges' which will no doubt next become 'the sharpened steel blades meant to decapitate ME, DJT!' as they actively begin a massive hunt for the 'trained escalator-assassin' would be so fucking funny IF it wasn't too damn realistic with this orange fuckwit regime. I actually gave his wife credit for traipsing right up those steps despite her uber-high heels while he plodded fairly well enough behind her, then instead of making it a nice, normal moment, he - as always, turned it into bedlam.

George in Atlanta's avatar

Wendy, love your stuff, I have no quibble with anything here, either factual or forecast. But, the tone implies that Something Can Be Done. No can do. We're full Thelma and Louise now. All your laments about how stupid everybody is conveys nothing but truth, but they're all helpless just like we are. Worrying that the Dems will 'get the blame' is the deep and honored shibboleth of American politics which has allowed the Right to dictate to us. And they absolutely have, and will, until they can't.

Cruz is not as stupid as I thought he was, he just plays it on TV for the rubes in the cheap seats. The number of erstwhile MAGA voices crawling out of the woodwork screaming their terror about state censorship is now legion. Tucker Fucking Swanson Carlson? Are you kidding me? The phrase 'bad for Trump' is quickly losing its meaning. Everything is bad for Trump.

So the chips are falling, they will not be stopped. I'll leave you all with this:

Just as the agencies shut down and the people are weak and exhausted from the traumatic life, someone will attack our country. Could be someone that Trump has tried to cozy up to because he admires them, or it could be rogue terrorists. Either way, WE ARE NOT PREPARED. Europe is not prepared either for Russia's escalations and where ever it might lead, but they are going to start getting prepared. Right now America First means America Alone. That is how Trump likes it. Is that what we want?

https://lindaweide.substack.com/p/hybrid-warfare-what-is-it-leading?r=f0qfn

Robert Eckert's avatar

Russia is in no position to escalate despite their recent performance art. Ukraine has crippled their oil refineries and pipelines and hit transportation hubs. The gas rationing (2 liters a day per car!) and grocery inflation (10-12%) has finally spurred Russians into protesting in the streets calling for Putin's resignation, unthinkable a couple years ago. Russian forces in Donetsk are moving backwards not forwards for the first time in over a year.

Since Trump lives in his own delusional little bubble, he probably wouldn't even check other sources. He'll just listen to his cultists and insist they're representative of the whole world. I mean, who's going to tell him if any of the reviews were bad? Unless someone wants to be covered in ketchup, no one dares tell him bad news.

"President Pudding Cup" QUICK! Someone please add that to the list. 😂😂

Yes, fucking nuts doesnt even begin to cover it. It will be interesting to see how many Republicans in Congress are also in the Epstein files because they are going to extraordinary lengths to not release them. Fear not assholes, because you can delay it all you want, but the names WILL eventually be seen.

Did anyone ever realize just how far the rot goes?

What a time to be alive. 🤦‍♀️

DJ Headthrob's avatar

You know what is TRULY sad? After the files have finally been released and the names have been named, NOTHING will happen. "Sure, I knew the guy. Even shared a plane with him. But we never pedophiled together."

Susan Niemann's avatar

Maybe. But I'd like to believe in Karma.

Mary Hall's avatar

As they say, Karma's only a bitch if you are, but here we just need to believe the women. They are compiling their own list.

Cyndi's avatar

I don't think it is so much the elected Gods over People that are the concern. It is their mega donors who fear the backlash from exposure. Example: Sarah, Duchess of York.

Fastball Fredo's avatar

Jeff, if Congress shuts down over the budget…well I guess there will not be a vote to release the Epstein files… Considering that if Congress were to stay open, the newest elected Dem. from AZ would give them 218 votes to pass the legislation. I’m guessing this is in the MAGAs equation. What is in these files that people are so concerned as not to allow release? What are these people hiding? Best to All

Joyce's avatar

We all know what's in the Epstein Files--the names of all of the child rapists and most of the Republicans in Congress are terrified. Holy Brother Mike Johnson is REALLY determined to hide those files.

I myself would like some more information about the cache of video tapes confiscated from Epstein.

George in Atlanta's avatar

The uber-point is this: nothing matters now. Maybe we can shut the government down and eventually manage a CNTL-ALT-DEL on the whole enterprise. Maybe the Founders' boot ROM can reset us to the 17th Century at least. But all that diddling around the edges with 2026 and 2028 'strategies', or specific votes on anything in particular, is meaningless.

I doubt it can happen like that, though. Way too much damage done, not only to the mechanisms of government, but how much of a beating Americans' self image has taken. All that Civics education I got in High School was bullshit. Can we come back from realizing that we are not exceptional? Dunno. Worth a try, I guess.

Mary Hall's avatar

I think the only face-saving way out of this morass is to prove that T💩p stole the election, which he and his accomplice Eloon bragged about doing -- "We don't even need your vote. Eloon has the magic computer, etc." and then Eloon wondering how much prison time he would get if T💩p didn't win, and then when the 'girls' were fighting he actually said that without his help the Dems would have the White House, the House, and would be only one vote shy in the Senate.

There is a trial going on right now regarding Rockland County, NY that was initiated by a third-party candidate after he received zero votes and he knew that wasn't accurate. Additionally, there are precincts where Dem. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand won in a landslide, but Kamala received zero votes. The math ain't mathin' as they say. There was much fuckery afoot on election day -- bomb threats, etc.

Theresa Palmer's avatar

You’re absolutely right.

What about those bomb threats?? Driving people away from their poling places. The odd results you mentioned.

I’m glad someone is challenging it. Too many odd occurrences.

Stephanie Lajeskie's avatar

A third of this country will never be embarrassed because it’s clear that they have absolutely no shame.

Joyce's avatar

It's more than no shame--they revel in this. Demento's loyal cult loves that someone as stupid and ignorant as they are can take the world stage and force everyone else to listen to the idiocy, the cruelty, and--most importantly--the virulent racism.

FTrump And FPutin Too's avatar

It’s always the racism. and depriving women and people of color of their rights to the full extent of the constitution and amendments. It’s the obliteration of the rule of law, fair play, equality of races and gender in opportunities and equal wages, and they want to take us back to pre-civil war. A bathroom is a just a bathroom. We all need access when we need. Denying bathroom access is just another way of depriving certain people of basic human and civil needs. Pudding Cup however needs to be permanently detained in his own private royal bathroom and locked in, where his foul habits won’t plague anyone else. The world and I suffer from his freedom. Tape his mouth shut, tape his typing little hands together and exile him to Jeffy’s own island, converted to a penal colony of one. With alligators, panthers, poisonous snakes and magnets. Yes, surrounded by magnets and water. No social media access except news-clippings of what the truth has to say about him. He shall be forgotten except as a dark history lesson. Funny that the people who have no shame are the same people who got stuck at the age of 3 to 5, right after being ridiculed and laughed at and shamed. The rest of their lives was dedicated to avoiding being shamed ever again. Maybe that’s what every member of the Trump cult has in common.

Victoria Wilson's avatar

I saw clips of that abomination of a speech and there were people laughing at some of the things he said.I couldn’t tell if they were obeying/ laughing in advance or were so taken aback at what they were hearing that they were nervous laughing.Who the hell knows. One thing I know and that is this-I can’t stand to look at him or hear his whiny voice for even a nanosecond. It is worse than fingernails on a chalkboard.

Susan Burgess's avatar

One of the qualities of evil is that it’s repulsive in the extreme and makes people who come across it turn their heads away immediately. I read that someplace.

Susan Burgess's avatar

I also experienced this first hand years ago. I was just walking on a sidewalk. A man was approaching but I gave it no notice. As he was passing by me the hair on the back of my neck started to tingle and I and I was overcome with fear and repulsed in the extreme. If I actually looked at him it would have been just for a split second before looking away. I was really shook and never forgot it. This hasn’t happened before or since although I get a somewhat similar feeling with our, or rather their, president. But in slo mo, and building.

Maybe…on the face of things, however voter suppression appears a factor. No mention of the friendship statue removed in the wee hours of Epstein and Trump holding hands gleefully from he mall is shocking Jeff!

Ole Anderson's avatar

But You knew that statue would not last a nano second before being carted off to the incinerator

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

Agreed! Like all the others were Ole, the Epstein/Trump friends forever, bronze plated 12’ one was licensed through the weekend, too bad the park employees dismantled and hauled it away!

Ole Anderson's avatar

That was not cheap to construct. They should have been allowed to remove it themselves when the permit expired.

I’m sure there are rules in place now disallowing any trump criticism.

I would like to add that of that 35%, its likely that the majority just couldn’t make up their minds. I mean, Trump seemed crazy and criminal, but Fox said he was God’s instrument here on earth, and Kamal was a scary woman/person of color…so the safest bet was to stay home.

It was not a fair and honest election. There was "fuckery" as Jeff would say. There are so many statistical anomalies. He did not actually win.

George in Atlanta's avatar

Bullshit. He won. Your reasoning is clouded by a far-too-generous view of our fellow citizens. They really are ignorant, nativist, racist pieces of shit. They really did want him back in office in order to do all the things he promised. Their minds really are so fragile that they will believe whatever SkyDaddy shit some huckster screams at them.

arne link's avatar

Yeah, that too. But there was still manipulation of actual votes. Remember how he kept saying that we didn't need to vote anymore? Remember Elon? Whatever, we are here now. What's done is done and we are suffering for it.

Ole Anderson's avatar

Yep. He said he had all the votes he needed.

And before he had said vote for me one more time and you will never have to vote again. And if you know trump you know that these atrociously anti democracy statements are true, and he has people actively planning just how to make it reality.

I’ll agree to much of that George, until further evidence of a hack eerily similar to Diesalgate is available!

The popular vote movement has made some solid progress…saying never, was also said about fascism, yet here we are!

steve robertshaw's avatar

Best chance for correcting it is if somehow in some magical future a majority in House and Senate would propose an increase in House membership to compensate for the massive increases in US population since it was last frozen at 435. But that's unlikely, as the Big 6 underpopulated Republican states - Alaska, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, N.Dakota and S.Dakota - would certainly oppose it (though, I don't know, since they're only 12% of the Senate, it's possible that some huge Repub states, starting with Texas, might actually like the self-serving idea of their state gaining members at the expense of some smaller states, party be damned).

Ginny Hall's avatar

Sadly, you're not wrong. The less-populous states won't want to give up their outsized power. But we can dream.

I saw a comment yesterday somewhere wondering if the fall of the Roman empire was this embarrassing. It gave me a brief chuckle over our fate.
