today in Shit That Happened While I Was Busy Writing This Shit—

your reminder that Texas still has a lot of shitty judges:

"ICE Agent Released From Texas Jail After Minnesota Loses Court Fight

The state had sought to have the agent extradited from Texas to answer charges in Minneapolis related to an on-duty shooting that wounded an immigrant."

Texas. I am still waiting for Texas to secede from the Union.

As for the appalling Donnie comments re the very sad passing of a great American treasure, and yet, and yet, millions of people still support him and vote for ignorant idiots who he supports, like Darline Graham, et al. That still boggles my mind.

HI2thDoc's avatar

Paraphrasing Darline "I Used to Use Mah Married Name" Graham: "I don't know anything about China and Taiwan, but much more important is keeping men out of women's sports." That plays well to her base

Lady Emsworth's avatar

"Now its Darline, lovely Darline, precious Darline all the time

She's just a lemming

Yes, "it is under the whale shit in the Marrianas trench." to quote Robin Williams.

Wal, Jean, I guess you got to re'member that his good friend Dolly REALLY liked him a LOT. And she jest LURVED the fact that tariffs were bringing all that money into the country, and that inflation was way down and wages were WAY up. . .

You telling me you don't believe me? Well, you must jest be another one of them thar Commies that Fox news keeps tryin' to warn us about. . .

boggling - at the other end of the spectrum, it's sort of like trying to understand string theory or something

Jean Jacoby's avatar

I think "or something" is much harder to understand.

Lady Emsworth's avatar

I've got a big ball of string in kitchen. My theory is, if things get bad enough, I can braid it and use it to hang myself. Is that the sort of theory you were talking about?

rlritt's avatar

Maybe we can sell it back to Mexico.

More shit: the sailor who, in a mental health crisis, jumped overboard from the floating toxic waste dump aircraft carrier is now facing disciplinary charges.

Joyce's avatar

Malingering and AWOL

Eeee's avatar

they want to call it "malingering" when he tried to go overboard? that would be a helluva commitment to the bit

Joyce's avatar

Exactly my reaction! Jumping from an aircraft carrier seems to be at least a subtle hint that he wasn't "feigning mental illness."

Lisa Bieber's avatar

Sounds like the Preznit, VD and the entire liquor cabinet-malingering and AWOL. And what about Moscow Mitch?

I am reminded of a boat trip I took 55 years ago as a 19-year-old, from Newcastle to St Petersburg (then called Leningrad), on a dilapidated soviet tourist ship called Nadezhda Krupskaya (named after Lenin's long-suffering wife-there was a portrait of her on the boat). When we docked for a day a mile from Helsinki, one of the crew jumped ship and tried to swim to shore (he didn't make it). I quietly asked one of the other crew members about it. After pulling me into a small room, she said, "That happens all the time. Sometimes they make it. when they don't, they have a cell in the hold for them."

The 30-year Treasury yield hit a nineteen-year high, so a shit-scared Bessent doubled the bond buybacks off-calendar — two weeks after the meeting where he was supposed to say it. Treasury's line: the yields don't reflect the fundamentals. The borrower reviewed his own interest rate and found it unflattering. Cute as hell.

Meanwhile: $963 billion in net interest this fiscal year. Fifteen percent of federal spending, no hearing, no hand-wringing bullshit.

Ask that chickenshit administration for one clinic and suddenly it's tough choices. Scarcity my ass.

Warsh runs the Fed. Bessent's his friend. Independence.

https://thistleandmoss.com/p/pay-the-fucking-rent-gratitude-doesn-t-cash-bessent-bails-out-the-bond-market-spain-guards-its-own-a

Lady Emsworth's avatar

Wendy - could you tell me in the way you'd explain to a kindergartner what bonds actually ARE? What is Bessent doing with them that so upsets you, and why?

There are so many things this admin does that a lot of us ignorant every day Joe's have no idea what it means - for instance, how many times have you heard someone say "Oh, we're making millions from the tariffs! The people selling us things have to pay to ship them in!" I'm certain it's even worse with bonds. I haven't even seen anyone questioning Bessent about it on TV

I googled it and it says:

The Loan: You give money to the federal government.

The Return: The government pays you regular interest (usually twice a year) and returns your original money when the loan reaches its end date, called maturity.

The Safety: They are backed by the "full faith and credit" of the U.S. government, meaning they are treated as some of the safest investments in the world.

So far, so good.

What is Bessent doing that is dangerous? I found him waffling about this on CBS:

https://youtu.be/SR71MzrTgOM?si=w763-pAx2DxK96JE

(hope it doesn't give you indigestion to watch it) but to me and I'm sure millions of others who DON'T use the markets, it's pure gobbledegook. How is this going to adversely affect my grandchildren?

Joe Witkowski's avatar

Bond issuers want higher yields because $3 trillion U.S. is on no one’s balance sheet but is funding the building of AI data centers. Bonds are no longer a stable refuge for investors who fear the turbulence of the stock market. And bond buyers don’t want this cum gurgler Bessent fucking around with the bond market freedom. Remember all the fucking Republicans who would impale themselves before interfering (like Bessent) in free markets and perfect market elasticity?

These MAGA fucks are now gaming free markets and hamstringing investors.

Wendy The Druid 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🌈's avatar

So its like this.

The government borrows money. It can borrow for 30 years at a fixed price, or borrow for 3 months and re-borrow constantly. Bessent leaning short is bullshit. Because, Its cheaper today, but if rates jump, your grandkids pay the higher price later. And Bessent doesnt give a shit.

I have some important Texas news.

A member of Democrats Abroad and Indivisible Abroad shared this news. She says, "Shout out to Texans: "More than 1.2 million Texans are on the state’s Voter Suspense list ahead of the fall’s contentious midterm elections." https://www.sacurrent.com/news/texas-news/more-than-1-2-million-texans-voter-registrations-are-suspended/. Check your status, tell friends and family to do the same."

If you are a Texan abroad, just send in a new FPCA form. The DA Voter Protection team (I am Deputy Director) has confirmation from Texas SecState that a submitted FPCA form removes an effected voter from the suspense list. I think the article is incorrect in that being on the suspense list puts your registration on a two-federal cycle grace period. The act of voting removes voters from the suspense list.

Anyway, worried Texans should send in an FPCA form for 2026, if they didn't yet already this year, and ask to receive their ballot by email or online. If they need help or have questions go to Votefromabroad.org

The bad news about Texas is that their voter reg website is chronically broken/not up to date for UOCAVA. (Not showing up in their system doesn't mean you aren't registered. It is a chronic problem and probably won't be fixed until Dems run the state.) But your county election officials can check and tell you if there are any issues with your voter registration, so you can contact them - votefromabroad.org/states/tx -- choose county

So, please share this with all the Texas voters you know, unless they are part of MAGA.

Jean Jacoby's avatar

I hope that motivates people to vote, since only 3% of eligible voters in Texas actually vote.

rlritt's avatar

Really? Do they make it difficult on purpose. I hope Tellerico has a "get out the vote rally." Are there not many people registered?

Lady Emsworth's avatar

Really? NO! That CAN'T be right! - can it?!!!

IF the orange blob had ever met Dolly Parton and IF she smiled and was cordial to him, well then, it was just Dolly being Dolly. She was friendly and cordial to everyone, no matter who they were, even if she had to repair to the Ladies room to upchuck. Doesn't mean she liked or respected you, Donny boy.

Lady Emsworth's avatar

If Dolly even smiled at him he would have taken it as a signal that she was desperate to get into bed with such a big handsome hunk as he is. 🤮The dementia is strong in this one.

Ann Anderson's avatar

Dolly was a firecracker, a creative genius and an all-around cool chick. One of the best examples of how to be a human being we'll ever see. Donny can try to glom onto her but it's water off a duck's back. Dolly stands alone. Not even the Dotard can sully her memory.

Anyway, under the heading of Judges Doing the Right Thing, the judge in Andrew Tate's case just threw out a 150-page filing arguing for pre-trial release. Turns out you can't just throw paperwork at a judge and expect them to read and consider it. There are procedures. Tate's lawyer didn't follow them.

When you're in deep legal shit, don't go for the cut-rate representation. Safe prediction: Tate bros will be on trial in the UK.

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

ooh, I missed that story. got link?

HI2thDoc's avatar

Did you hear a couple of weeks ago, the Tates' lawyer was whining about the conditions in their incarceration, including the lack of nail clippers? Hilarious.

The Tates find that in the slammer

They can only whine and yammer

It's hard to stay chipper

Without a nail clipper

"We miss our alpha male glamour!"

Can't the Taints learn to bite their nails down to the quick instead, like Trump has driven the rest of us to do?

DuduLovesBubu's avatar

Put Bubba in the cell with them and they'll bite them nails down real quick with worry.

Ann Anderson's avatar

The lawyer also argued that the fancy cars were rented for show. The boys are not really rich. They lied about that, so please trust that my clients are not a flight risk.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

Trump and repubs cut funds to Dolly's Imagination Library, calling it wasteful spending. Imagine the talking points of bringing that up while comparing it to the millions trump has spent on the reflecting pool and putting his name and fugly picture on buildings.

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

oops, I forgot to mention that! I need to update my post, pronto. thanks for reminding me

djw's avatar

Dolly also rejected the Medal of Freedom because she didn't want to be involved with him, and then she wouldn't take it from Biden because *that* would have made it look political. What a hero she still is!

This is a lovely tribute to Dolly. She was a gem of a human that that orange turd could never be.

I saw on Threads (and I'd don't remember by whom or I'd attribute it) something like, "Dolly Parton is what America would be if it actually lived up to its ideals."

THAT should be a bumper sticker/t-shirt/hat

AuntTeeFa's avatar

The more accolades that have been posted about Dolly, have opened my eyes to just how accomplished and loving she was in every possible area of her life.

Can’t help but be tear struck in reading stories that are just so surprising about the depth of her giving of herself and her hard earned resources. Such a generous loving heart.

Take her name outchourmouth you orange douche bag. You’re not worthy.

Instead of relentless dumping on drag shows, how about we ban idiotic rednecks from wearing all manner of what they consider clothing gaudily festooned with the Stars and Stripes?

How about just leaving that to Kid Rock and the lining of SecDeath’s jacket

What? And, like, not be able to paint one's face and dress up in the local football team's colors every Sunday??? And walk around with another man's name on your clothing? And even dress up one's pets? There's such a big difference, don't you know?

The timing of this post is uncanny. I had just finished reading Heather Cox Richardson's post about Dolly Parton. I was reading it aloud to my husband, and it took at least 15 minutes to read because I kept breaking down in tears at all the amazing things she has done for humanity. This post is the perfect antidote to the tears because of how polar opposite Dumpf is to her.

Joyce's avatar

The woman was absolutely filthy rich--and so she took that money and spread it everywhere, to make any and everyone's lives better. And, even though she kept giving the money away, she still had a huge fortune to enjoy herself.

And she didn't waste her days stoned on ketomine......Hmmmm.

rlritt's avatar

They have to do that because in spite of their obscene wealth, they know that they are still dickless jerks.

J Hardy Carroll's avatar

The reaper is taking all the wrong octogenarians, Jeff. Biden and Cher better watch out. HCR did a splendid tribute to Dolly's life by MERELY REPORTING THE ASTONISHING FACTS. No spin necessary, no "interpretation" by brain-dead soulless teat-suckers on Fox, no rambling incoherent attacks on anyone.

The facts of this ACTUALLY self-made woman's life are inspiring on every conceivable level, from her unconditional acceptance of people to her embrace of "looking like the town tramp." Her humility and philanthropy would embarrass Mother Teresa, and her talent (exemplified by writing Nine to Five, her biggest hit, in an OFFICE by tapping out the tune with her fingernails and making up the lyrics on the spot...look it up).

She was the real deal, the polar opposite of the bloated diaper-wearing lying sack of venality shitting himself and the world because as Menken wrote, "No one in this world, so far as I know … has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby.”

Lady Emsworth's avatar

Seldom disagree with you, Jeff, but:

"Dolly was everything Donny wishes he could be."

No, she wasn't.

She was kind, loving, generous, accepting, gracious, talented and loved.

The Pig is NONE of those things - and has no interest in being any of them. He doesn't even want to be loved, as Dolly was. He wants to be adored.
