I'm being told that as a constitutional monarch, King Charles has no choice but to go where they send him — but my premise remains that no country should be sending its representatives to meet with Donny

Jane in NC's avatar

It was Keir Starmer's unrelenting campaign to suck up to Trump that forced Charles and Camilla to endure to endure Donny 'WeDon'tNeedNoPro-to-col Uh-huh' and his stone faced rent-a-wife.

Eskaveeda's avatar

Starmer's getting desperate because of the Mandelson situation and may be booted out of his job.

Jane in NC's avatar

Yeah, the Mandelson thing is taking its toll. As it should, IMO. Starmer was warned about him and hired him into his cabinet anyway.

Eskaveeda's avatar

And it's another reason why this household no longer votes Labour.

Jane in NC's avatar

Your choice, of course, but you couldn't pay me to vote conservative.

Eskaveeda's avatar

Are you kidding me? My spouse is from County Durham, and his father was a blacksmith working in the mines repairing equipment. He remembers the strikes. There are other parties, and we’ve been voting Green or Independent, depending on the election (we are now in Scotland).

Denise Donaldson's avatar

OK, but....how does sucking up to Rump help Starmer? What does sending Charles to D.C. do for him? I'm not following.

Maria Devereux's avatar

The invitation was extended a few months ago, in a desperate bid on PM Starmer's part to please Trump and keep him.on- side in the Russian Ukraine war. Trump adorés the Royals, but Starmer didn't realize that Trump has the attention span of a knat, and also would take the cookies while biting off the hand of his own grandmother. So Starmer basically got nothing but British honour dictated that the visit must proceed. If I were the King, I'd have said - I should be delighted but I must wash The Royal Hairs on that particular date.

Denise Donaldson's avatar

Ahhh.... That makes sense. Bad judgment on Starmer's part.

And yes, I think Charles and Camilla, Starmer, and British citizens would all have been better served if their Majesties had discovered urgent business elsewhere. Anywhere.

rlritt's avatar

In all fairness King Charles is the Head of State, not the head of government. His role is to represent British history and culture.

While Trump was raised by a sleazy slumlord from Queens, to be a greedy, lying schiester.

CA Productions/Carol Ann's avatar

Exactly, money doesn't buy class

Jan Moon's avatar

My apologies to King Charles for His Royal Fuckhead's shouldering his way in front of him so that he couldn't shake hands. Just one in the numerous other shoulderings that continue to make me beyond sick. I believe he did it to his granddaughter during the campaign. Nothing says self-absorbed like this dickhead does.

T L Mills's avatar

never has; never will. I have seen many economically struggling (i.e. poor) people who demonstrate far more class, grace and dignity than our coarse, boorish Preznit.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Did you mean "shyster," which refers to a sleazy lawyer, or were you trying to coin a new word?

rlritt's avatar

I spell badly. I mean a sleazy politician or lawyer.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Shyster specifically refers to sleazy lawyers, not politicians.

The reason I asked is "scheis" is a German/Yiddish term for excrement.

Bonnie Council's avatar

Well, that works too then, right?

rlritt's avatar

I just looked it up.

Shyster" is an informal term for someone, particularly a lawyer or politician, who uses unethical or unscrupulous methods. It can also refer to someone who succeeds through petty or sharp practices. The word originated in 1843 from the German word Scheiss, meaning "excrement". A 1982 monograph by Gerald L. Cohen traced the word's origins to New York newspapers from 1843–1844, where editor Mike Walsh transcribed the speech of lawyer Cornelius Terhune.

Phil Kuhn's avatar

Daniel, I agree with Bonnie. I knew the German/Yiddish word, too, and thought rlritt had pulled a wonderful sleight of phrase, so to speak!

Phil Kuhn's avatar

Actually, Daniel, I just went back to my Merriam-Webster and they say “shyster” is “probably from German Scheisser, literally, defecator”!

Eskaveeda's avatar

Or as Crass put it back in the 1980s when referring to QEII, ‘As figurehead of the status quo, I set the social scene.'

It's so crazy that Charles got a standing o for mentioning all the things Congress is refusing to acknowledge or do anything about.

Jeanne Leduc's avatar

I was screaming at the TV!

WTAF??!!

Jane's avatar

Yeah I thought the same thing. Very weird

Bonnie Council's avatar

And that smirk & continuous nodding by smarmy Mike - ew. Made my skin crawl. But mostly had me wondering WTF?

Wendymae's avatar

I feel like I have very little to say these days besides WTF.

Bonnie Council's avatar

Right? It wasn't even a part of my vernacular before....well, you know.

2Cats2Furious's avatar

Lawrence had some clips of the speech on his show last night. I thought it was hilarious when Charles got a standing ovation after describing the need for checks & balances on executive power, and Vance and Holy Mike had to join in.

Maria 🇮🇪's avatar

Brilliant. CouchfuckMcgee also had to stand and clap For Ukraine! FANTASTIC🤣

Lin Talbot-Koehl's avatar

However, if you LOOK CLOSELY, you'll see it was MAINLY DEMS to stood up & applauded. The ReTHUGlicans mainly SAT THERE & "AIR CLAPPED".

BOWMAN & HOLY MIKE *HAD* to stand up & clap....or they'd have been EMBARRASSED PUBLICLY if they hadn't. Because, w/ these MAGAt morons, appearances MUST be EVERYTHING....to keep their Sheeple motivated.

Patricia Speier's avatar

Hey Jeff, at first I felt as you do that world leaders should not legitimize Trump by visiting, but on further thought I realized Charles is trying to help us from sinking further into the slough of despond than we already have. He is reminding us of who we really are and what we have always stood for until the orange one came on the scene.

Also you are so right to call out the absurdity, even treachery of that “two kings” post. I cannot believe the White House would even think about sending such a thing out🤦🏼‍♀️!

Thanks, Jeff, for keeping us sane by faithfully calling out all of this nonsense.🙏🏻

AKRebel's avatar

King Charles most definitely got in some zingers on shitler, but I'm not sure how many of them were actually understood by his remaining brain cell(s).

Robert Eckert's avatar

Lynn Van Haren's avatar

Agree100%. Do NOT legitimize the regime

Crabby Canuck's avatar

Charles was raised as a gentleman... in it's truest form. Regardless of the political mechanics of the visit, he would inevitably show tRump up for his crassness and vulgarity. And indeed he did. It's actually almost impossible not to. Jinping, Putin, and Un may all be evil despicable fucks, but one thing they're NOT is super-uneducated, uncouth, inerudite boars like tRump. They'd all do a far superior job hosting King Charles without even trying.

Has anybody thought that the new building Bunker ballroom is going to be Trump’s control room for the 2026 midterm elections perhaps they’re making it super secret and super fortified for a reason. Since he doesn’t plan on leaving, but they know that there will be riots in the streets if he takes over the elections, he’s going to need a secure bunker. Call the underground White House to continue to manage the affairs of the nation, speak and play propaganda from all state run media. Maybe I have too much time on my hands? lol

BJ Zamora's avatar

I thought they got rid of that and the Lord’s Prayer in Texas schools in 1965 when the parents in my high school in Houston (which was over 50% Jewish) sued to stop it.

I think they need more lawsuits to insist on Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist , and Hindu prayers are also posted.

And we must not forget Cherokee, Apache, Comanche, and other truly Native American prayers!

Mary Greenwald's avatar

OR. . .teach every child American and World History, English, several foreign languages, Math and Science and Civics Leave the prayers to religious leaders after school time and in a building for particular religions or just under the clear blue sky. Keep it out of the schools,

rlritt's avatar

Especially since American schools are not considered the best. But we dont really want to raise smart thinking adults do we? If that were true, Trump wouldn't have been elected.

CA Productions/Carol Ann's avatar

American schools system are so far behind. I lived in Italy for decades and watch my friends kids coming home from school with work, real stuff like two languages, advanced science and math. America is a former shadow of itself. We are dumber by the decade.

rlritt's avatar

I agree. If parents want their kids pray in school, send them to private or parochial school.

Lisa Kent's avatar

How about a moment of silence? Everyone can say their own prayer inside their own head.

Cyndi's avatar

When they tried that in my high school decades ago, they had to stop after a few months ... Because they discovered that the students would just fall asleep at their desks!

Rosemary Orlandi's avatar

how long were the moments .....lol

Bonnie Council's avatar

I still don't understand how he's been able to do all the damage he's done to OUR White House and is now building (he hopes) this outrageous ballroom. In our town we have to apply for a permit just to update a freaking window! How is he able to do all this and no one is stopping him?? This is just crazy.

Teri Gelini's avatar

He just ignores the rules. I blame the contractors for doing the shit they don't have permits for. They don't get [aid either so they are not the brightest in the bunch. Putting that turquoise die in the Lincoln reflecting pool without approval as a historical site to see how the color looked..it was put on the granite. I want to know how they can get it off there. The reflecting pool is suppose to reflect the sky. He said it was dirty and ugly ...well maybe have it cleaned. Duh

Kim Steeves's avatar

Having him hold up in a bunker under the east wing may work in our favour, could we not just barricade the door from the outside and call it his tomb?

Bonnie Council's avatar

Ha! Best answer. You win!

Brick them all in…like ‘The Cask of Amontillado’.

rlritt's avatar

I would lend a hand in that effort!

Cassandrascat's avatar

After seeing Graham’s desperation, I thought perhaps it’s a bomb shelter so trump can use those nukes he thinks there’s no reason to have if he can’t play with them.

Mike Hammer's avatar

Maybe the bunker after the midterms and fall of democracy. They will militarize DC and that will be the underground White House. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! lol

Grace Kennedy's avatar

Don’t you mean Baal room? They can’t go to the island anymore…

Linda Weide's avatar

Iran already knows that there are holes in the security. That bunker is probably not going to be up to standards either if we see the work Donnie is used to commissioning.

rlritt's avatar

I cant imagine it will be finished by then, unless they build the bunker first before there even is a building.

DebJS's avatar

I think I read that they're already working on the bunker and that's why they "needed" to get rid of the East Wing as it was in the way.

Suel J's avatar

Scary scenario right there. Scary for the assholes burying themselves there. They don't seem to know that they may not emerge to anything they recognize.

Cyndi's avatar

But can they complete it in time?

Chris Hierholzer's avatar

CA Productions/Carol Ann's avatar

That sounds about right....he has no plans to leave. Voting won't be enough. Are you combat ready???

Rosemary Orlandi's avatar

yes, I have thought of nothing but that, and it both scares and enrages me .

Miselle's avatar

Hands up✋🏼 if in lieu of a journalist taking up the "Tiedrich Challenge" you would have loved to have had Charles spill the beans on all he knows about EPSTEIN, live, right in front of our entire CONGRESS!

Sure would be nice to know what finally drove him to oust his own brother! I mean, it's not like this is the 1500s or whatever, and Andrew was going to challenge him to the throne!

Jean Jacoby's avatar

Um, given the interesting history of the British monarchy, Andrew got away with his head still attached to his neck, so there is that. I think Charles had just had enough of his awful younger brother--who was, bafflingly, his mummy's favorite, along with her treasonous uncle.

Lisa K. Obrien's avatar

Andrew’s former wife, Sarah Ferguson, took her daughters to have lunch with Epstein after he was released from prison. She was looking for him to help strengthen her brand, apparently.

arne link's avatar

I believe that she was desperate for Epstein to give her more money. It is documented that he had supported her generously with "loans".

Lisa K. Obrien's avatar

‘Desperate’ being the operative word. Begging for money made from trafficking children? All these greedy fucks are an abomination.

Merrill's avatar

Todd Blanche has joined the cast of Trump's "magic reality" show at the White House. In what paranoid world is posting a picture of 86-47 in sea shells a crime? Certainly not in America, a country ruled by laws not men. But if you step into Trump's paranoid, magical world, you can believe America is a country ruled by just one man and everything is GREAT. Unfortunately for Trump and his loyalist clinging to power, Americans are abandoning that world and coming back to s country of laws.

arne link's avatar

It's a f'n photograph, for God's sake. We can get ten years in prison for taking a photo? It's just a distraction from the Epstein files.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

The case should not only be summarily dismissed with prejudice (meaning it can't be brought again), but the lawyers who signed onto it should be investigated by their state's board of bar overseers for abuse of process.

cablecargal's avatar

Can they charge the government as being a "vexatious litigant"? Although the government is not an individual, maybe there's some way to sue them for this ridiculous lawsuit.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Not sure. I did read that it's possible that the court could order the government to pay his legal fees.

rlritt's avatar

And since when is joking about a leader's demise against the law? Its not like you're making plans. If that were true, anyone who ever told an Ex "Drop dead" would be in jail.

Lynn Van Haren's avatar

Todd Blanche was gone from being a decent lawyer at SDNY to a sock puppet

Linda Weide's avatar

My understanding is that he needs to protect himself and keep from them digging deeper. So, Epstein is probably not a topic he wants to cover.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

The charges against Andrew potentially involve treason -- providing secret government info to non-allies. Virginia Giuffre's battering/rape by Andrew did not get his titles removed.

arne link's avatar

The Epstein files contain much, much more than the raping of young girls and, possibly, murder. There is a huge confluence of spy wear and money laundering. That is the real story they want to keep hidden.

Linda Weide's avatar

I know. The murder to me is the biggest issue though, and that could get Trump the death penalty in Florida.

Lisa K. Obrien's avatar

This is where the big banks come in. They REALLY want to cover this up. There are no ‘good guys’ in the profit making schemes of the sex trafficking of children.

Linda Weide's avatar

Thanks for the reminder Sharon. The treason charges are not what has stuck in my mind.

Chris Hierholzer's avatar

Maybe he saw one of his brothers home movies.

And in the future, the SC needs to be cleaned up...the stench is getting worse and worse as time goes by.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Roberts has his own serious ethical issues. His wife took payments from companies in industries whose cases were heard by the SC. Roberts never reported the sources of income -- an "oversight." All the conservative justices are shady and compromised.

The Republicans have turned things upside down -- remember when it was neo-Confederates and other racist white people who were constantly yelling "States' rights! States' rights!" Now that the White House and much of Congress are in anti-democratic hands, it's liberals and progressives pushing hard against federal government overreach. My state's attorney general, Andrea Campbell, is among the many Democratic AGs fighting back against the Trump administration. (I'm in MA.)

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

She was not my choice four years ago. I am enthusiastically supporting her for re-election.

myhoopbabies's avatar

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Great. Short of a coup d'etat how do you propose doing it?

Robert Eckert's avatar

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

The 5th Circuit -- can we call it a 5th Column yet? -- has OKed Texas's anti-constitutional requirement to post the 10 Commandments in classrooms. Can't wait to see how SCOTUS majority handles this one. Will they 86 the First Amendment and declare the U.S. a Christian nation? It'll have to be a *Protestant* Christian nation, of course, since they're not big fans of Pope Leo these days.

Mary Greenwald's avatar

SCOTUS is a big fan of Pope Leo. Only 2 are not Catholic!

devourerofpancakes's avatar

That doesn't mean a whole lot. Look at how much of catholic teaching the conservatives are willing to ignore.

Bob's avatar

I doubt Alito, who is Opus Dei, likes Leo one bit. Nor Roberts or Gorsuch.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

Was thinking the same thing, but I'd for sure add Thomas and probably Kavanaugh and Barrett to the list. As I just noted elsewhere, Gorsuch was raised Catholic but is now an Episcopalian.

Bob's avatar

Barrett is some stripe of evangelical. Episcopalian, ie, Church of England, ie, Catholicism with divorce and less guilt.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

This doesn't follow. I expect that Sotomayor is a fan, and probably Jackson (nondenominational Protestant) and Kagan (Jewish) admire him. Last I looked, 3 of the 9 weren't Catholic. Gorsuch was raised Catholic but is now Episcopalian. High-church Episcopalianism can look a lot like Catholicism in ritual, but Episcopalians aren't guided by the pope in Rome. JD Vance, btw, a recent convert to Catholicism, said earlier this month that "it's very, very important for the pope to be careful when he talks about matters of theology." Which many of us greeted with "WTF??"

Bob's avatar

I didn’t say the minority were in that camp. The important thing is the Catholic justices, JD Vance are tight with Leonard Leo, who is Opus Dei, a right-Catholic lay organization that didn’t like Pope Francis and most likely don’t like Pope Leo.

Of course Episcopalians don’t follow the pope because the roots are Church of England, Henry the VIII’s creation so he could dictate when someone can get divorced instead of the pope having that authority.

My father was a Presbyterian minister and we knew a few Episcopalian rectors, one of whom was my dad’s best friend.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

Fwiw, I was responding to Mary Greenwald, who wrote "SCOTUS is a big fan of Pope Leo. Only 2 are not Catholic!" I hope she was joking, but I'm afraid she wasn't. With the exception of Sotomayor, the Catholics on the Supreme Court range from conservative to reactionary (Alito and Thomas). I came of political age in the late '60s and early '70s and was active in the antiwar movement. I admired and was inspired by the Berrigan brothers, Sr. Elizabeth McAllister, Dorothy Day, and members of the Catholic Worker Movement, among others. (Fwiw, I was raised Episcopalian, Low-Church version, but lapsed early.)

Bob's avatar

I also came of political age in the early ‘70s, although I was pointedly aware of the antiwar and Civil Rights movements. Growing up in Chicago, 1968 was unlike any year before or since. I remember the Catholics who were involve in antiwar protests. Alito is certainly the most reactionary, though Thomas is mere inches behind, and wrote the majority opinion in todays evisceration of the Voting Rights Act. My dad went to Yale Divinity School, which was liberal theology. The other thing I observed is that it’s not a good idea to try to out-drink an Episcopalian rector. :)

It looked like a Botox grimace. I am noticing these things because my daughter always points out things like Plastic surgery, Botox and AI in everything these days. So, now I am more noticing the Botox. It looked like it was hard for her to arrange the smile on her face because she had to stretch frozen skin. Whatever the reason, she looked quite frightening. DebJS's avatar

It looked like she was smiling when she thought her photo was being taken, and she was trying to make it look genuine while wishing she was anywhere else. She probably gets shit from lump when she's photographed looking mad or sullen, could be there is even a monetary arrangement regarding her "modeling" work as flotus.

Suki Herr's avatar

I know Democrats would have to win a veto proof majority for this to work, but there’s no reason there should not be a code of ethics for SCOTUS instituted.

A high bar type code of ethics. John Roberts could resign or his wife could quit her job.

Clarence Thomas could resign or Ginny Thomas could cut out her shenanigans, all of them. I know Donald Trump will still be president, but as Mitch McConnell taught us, we don’t have to put confirmation up for a vote.

Cyndi's avatar

All of that just requires applying the rules and laws around lower court judges to the top court too. As for who would hear the cases, I suggest requiring Congressional impeachment procedures.

Suki Herr's avatar

Many of the lower courts have ethics rules, SCOTUS does not. I’m all for impeachment for justices which the constitution allows, but which? How many do we pick?

Gorsuch shouldn’t be there, Kavanaugh should never have survived confirmation, McConnell violated his own rules&stretched ethics to get Coney Barrett confirmed after presidential voting had started. Clarence&Ginny Thomas are, in my opinion, the most corrupt. Alito is so mired in ideology it dampens his intellect.

I choose Roberts. His wife’s job is a $20million ethics question

John Roberts and the other members of the “Sacred Six” religiously ideological justices forming the right-wing of that court persist in their perspective that only white Christian’s men are worthy of fully participating in our democratic republic.

I too loved that direct comment that King Charles probably knew the orange felon wouldn’t understand it was a slap tothe felon’s face!

Trump spooged out yet another demented nocturnal emission at 4 am this morning and we just accept it. The media (and we) should be asking about the 25th amendment every fucking day.

Mr Mild - BlueVotingBastard💙's avatar

Pushing for the 25th Amendment is a start, but there must be consequences for Trump and his minion’s destruction of our democracy. Impeachment would be a better course, but that would require the MAGA controlled Congress to act in the nation’s interest, not their own.

Angie Longenecker's avatar

What if millions and millions of people posted “86 47” anywhere and everywhere?

Mr Mild - BlueVotingBastard💙's avatar

Lot’s of folks are posting here on Substack, some have used the shell theme to post other messages.

Jane's avatar

I thought the same thing. Maybe it should be on No Kings Day.

Angie Longenecker's avatar

Then too!! All the time anywhere. Even seashells at the seashore.

Angie Longenecker's avatar

I’m bringing that as my sign to the May 1 rally.

2Cats2Furious's avatar

Bring bail money!

I hate this fucking timeline.

It’s not a mafia saying - it originated in restaurants and meant that a particular menu item was no longer available and should not be offered to customers.

Angie Longenecker's avatar

100% agree. Worked my way through college waitressing. 86 (always called out by the kitchen staff) meant an item was no longer available, usually a daily “special” menu item. I don’t know who//where 47 hung around, I guess the mafia. He always reveals himself doesn’t he?

Stephanie Lajeskie's avatar

On every No Kings Day, the MAGA cult loses their shit, and screeches all over social media about how Donny doesn’t think he’s a king. That “two kings” photo will be my standard reply until the end of time.

Joanne's avatar

He just screamed at Norah O'Donnell that he's not a king. If there were a hypocrisy award, he'd finally win something he deserves.

Here's the story

Of an alleged lady

Who scratched and clawed and maybe slept her way

To a life of privilege and mahnee

Where she's found today

She's the object of disdain

Did she ride on Epstein's plane

She denies it to everyone around

Was it there that

Dahnold first schtupped her

Or was it on the ground

She's now married to that tumor

But she has no sense of humor

When comedians like Kimmel crack a joke

That she can't wait

To be a rich widow

When someday soon he'll croak

Frosty McGillicuddy's avatar

Well, this is brilliant! Is this to the tune of The Brady Bunch?

HI2thDoc's avatar

Yes. My apologies to Sherwood Schwartz

I immediately heard it in that tune

"Married to that tumor." That's why Melanoma always looks like she's competing in a breath holding contest. She's keeps getting the waft of a dying man walking.

Where's that glow of a soon-to-be widow?

I bet, every morning she gets up and sees him eating breakfast, she gags.

I miss Jill, I miss Michelle, I miss Barbara Bush, I miss Lady Bird . . . I was still a kid during JFK's presidency, but I miss Jackie too, especially when I see DJT's name added to the Kennedy Center. Swine before pearls . . .

Yes yes yes! Allow me to add Rosalynn Carter to that list of notable first ladies. All missed, every day. ♥️

I treated myself to the gorgeous book “The Look” which is about Michelle Obama’s beautiful style. Great stories too.

Lisa K. Obrien's avatar

Michelle Obama has such a natural, easy style. She seems happy in her skin, unlike the grimacing, botoxed, forced style of the first concubine.

Punkette's avatar

Mary, thanks for the tip! ♥️ I adore Michelle and must get that book!!!

Nancy Braus's avatar

The confederates made sure that Michelle Obama, a together and brilliant woman, never had a day's peace with their ugly racist BS. While her push for a healthier American diet was too connected to corporate America, it sure was more sincere than Mr. Red Meat and Raw Milk. The White House vegetable garden beat the daylights out of the Mar-a-Lago patio that was the Rose Garden and the rubble heap that was the East Wing.

Lisa K. Obrien's avatar

Remember Michelle O. doing 25 pushups on the Ellen De Generes show? Wearing a dress and heels. Now THAT woman is a role model, in every way ❤️

Punkette's avatar

Yes!!! That was fine! Michelle has the most amazing toned arms. She is a goddess! Remember when the Repukes threw a fit because she dared to wear a sleeveless dress, in summer? Green with envy, I’d say! If I had arms like hers, I’d flaunt them every day!

Lisa K. Obrien's avatar

I DID have arms like hers, and I managed to flaunt them whenever decently possible!

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

You've probably read Michelle's wonderful BECOMING, which came out what seems like a half century ago in 2018, but if you haven't -- it's wonderful.

Punkette's avatar

Susanna - yes, I have read it, three times! A fabulous book. I gave my copy to my sister, and miss it … must buy another! It’s definitely a keeper. 💖

Love that book. Wonderful pictures and prose. Worth the wait and every penny.

I see King Charles' visit very differently. In fact, his speech made to the joint session of Congress yesterday was nothing short of inspiring and, even better, hit Trump in his ample gut gracefully but pointedly. BOTH sides of Congress clapped and stood up several times in agreement with the points made in the King's speech. Clearly the King was sent to smooth some of the orange asshole's ruffled feathers; indeed he was the perfect Trojan horse. In the end, if nothing else, it just felt so damn good to hear an intelligent speech delivered smartly and sincerely with no personal opinions, stupid comments, threats or worse, non-sensical stories that have nothing to do with the purpose of the speech. Our ties to the U.K. are more important than the pig that's currently grubbing up the oval office. Our ties to the rest of our allies are, too, for that matter. So, if King Charles had to do some kissing up in person, so what. He did none of that in his eloquent soeech. At this point everyone just wants the piece of shit not to, literally, go nuclear! Me, included.

Joyce's avatar

My sense is that any smoothing over and/or kissing up was de rigeur and done by rote. The real purpose of the visit was to deliver that dagger of a speech, which Charles did, may I say, to the hilt.

It was blistering in content and delivered with immaculate, deft accuracy.... "And, Mr. Speaker........"

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

Well said! "Kissing up in person" is part of what diplomacy is about, after all -- not that anyone in the current administration understands that, of course.

Jennifer Dyke's avatar

Right. I get that it's particularly falling because everyone hates Trump, but it still has to happen. No matter what, we'll get rid of Trump one way or another. After all, he's helping us every time he opens his stupid mouth or writes another Truth Social missive filled with threats!

Welp his supportive comment about Ukr forced JD to have to STAND UP AND CLAP (weakly)… so there WAS that…

This was a thing of beauty in a speech full of perfectly executed and delivered shade.

But it was like talking trash to golden retrievers.

P123Sunny's avatar

Refused to meet the Epstein survivors, (ongoing investigations), hm

Joyce's avatar

Yeah--Tapper asked a British journalist the other day about why Charles didn't just meet with the survivors (in a tone that suggested Charles was being nefarious); the British guy explained, at length, the complication such a meeting would cause, endangering the case in England, because Pervy Andrew is Charles' brother and the case is under the purview of the throne. Tapper/his staff didn't bother to do an actual bit of independent research to find this out ahead of time.....

And, in a close contender for 'what the fuck is wrong with you?', the British journalist then observed that Howard Liar Lutnick was attending whatever to-do Charles and Camilla were inflicted with at the White House and noted he'd like to discuss the inclusion of such a person on the invitation list with Tapper.

In a retreat that approached light speed, Tapper instantly changed the subject.

P123Sunny's avatar

Legacy media VERY comfortable operating on ‘tone’ and ‘vibes’… how far it’s fallen - just sayin

Joyce's avatar

Actual journalist would've researched why Charles would not meet with the Epstein-Trump survivors and then, if the topic was going to be broached, would've framed it as 'verify that this is the reason why,' rather than framing it as a kind of 'gotcha.' The lack of basic effort in his job made Tapper look like a fool.

P123Sunny's avatar

Yup. Gotcha rules :/ sad

Some good news, Arizona doesn't have to hand over their voter rolls (for now anyway). Another Trump defeat.

I'm still flabergasted that a Grand Jury would indict Comey over a picture of beach art. WTF I know they only hear one side of the story but really? Comey didn't even make the damn thing. The old saying, "you can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich" totally applies here.

Also thank god that 86 doesn't mean to kill someone, otherwise there would be a lot more dead people in this country.

I'm thinking the press should be asking every GOP congressperson "what the fuck is wrong with you?" daily from now on. They seem to be under a spell of some kind the way they defend the lying shitter in chief.

8647 before he kills US all

Cyndi's avatar

Ask if they know what 86 originally meant in its true original use? After all, UnSCOTUS says original language is what defines everything thereafter!

Jayme Wolworth's avatar

True. Someone posted the origination of 86 yesterday. Interesting

Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony!

Sorry, I saw my cue so...

The "Two KIngs" post by the WH is so wild since I spent all day yesterday on Threads, wading through morons shouting, "Hey libs, where's yer No Kings protest now!" accompanied by photos of democrats being welcoming to a king. Of another country. That is not ours.

The stupid is getting out of hand.
