Elaine I love your handle. I had to stop after the MSNBC pre-mortem and then turn it back on for the post-mortem. I did want to see what they are saying and how they are framing it for people who might give a shit and tune in. It's all so superficial it's fairly easy to fact check but doesn't change the insidiousness of it all. Attend and heckle would have been my preferred stance ONLY because of the average people watching, trying to grasp what is happening. Everyone here gets it. Lots of people apparently still don't and the clock is ticking. If Dems stand and aren't afraid to heckle this mobster then maybe people at home see there's something wrong. If Dems just don't show up, the GOP gets to run their mouth about them. Dems need to take the microphone and not let it go. I say show up and heckle him to death, everywhere. Start posting pics of carnage in Ukraine or vets who have lost jobs in response to every story/tweet etc. give them no relief. Bring receipts all day long.

When my Episcopal diocese hired a new bishop, we spent almost two years in diocese-wide discernment meetings, creating lists of what we were looking for, soliciting candidates, interviewing them, probably checking out their kindergarten report cards. Nobody was just "sent" by higher authorities who concealed that he was leaving his previous post due to child molesting charges.

I'd love to champion a third party, but (obviously) it needs to pull in sane Republicans, too, if there are enough of them like Adam K and Liz C. Forward party made a lot of sense, but fizzled.

There's no such thing as a sane republican. The only difference between Cheney and trump is that Cheney wants fascism done through proper channels. The polite way.

Trump is the embodiment of the Republican party and everything it stands for.

And Yang's forward party was just green party 2.0 with extra techbro horseshit sprinkled on top.

Michigan already has a terrific — and appropriately experienced — candidate for governor, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson. I think Buttigieg is promising, but I think he's another Democratic romance. I'd like to see him run for Congress first.

Well, Anastasia, we may be not completely devoid of leadership, (Green, Crockett, AOC, Wyden) but, the rest of our “leaders” remain muted during a crisis of epic proportions. Where are the cries to march? To rebel? To resist?

Granted, the corrupt “mainstream media” gives little to no coverage of Dems and truth, so, it is up to We the People to carry the message.

Sorry to malign sloths who are so much better than them. The level 10 of insane actions of MuskRump and their moron enablers has been met by Democrats digging us a deep grave. Democrats need a pro-worker, pro-democracy, anti-corruption agenda. It's sitting right there in their laps. They need to stick to the message the rich get richer and we're fucking broke ass. The message is we can't afford to live here. This isn't rocket science.

Expand full comment
Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

They have such an agenda and are articulating it every day. My own congresswoman did this at a packed town hall two weeks ago. What we need is a media strategy to get past a billionaire-funded "mainstream" media determined to silence it. The fact that you are here and have no idea this already exists shows how successful the so-called "mainstream" media has been in promoting MAGA.

There are a few Dems who are articulating the agenda, but thus far, they're outliers. They're so small a handful, they can be easily dismissed. The entire Dem party needs to get with the program that Lisa describes, and get LOUD. Get PUBLIC. Stick together, with every one of them channeling Al Green. And FFS, stop the mealy-mouthed Establishment Dem platitudes, as in Slotkin's response last night. Holding up REAGAN as an example??? Give me a break! Talk about a circular firing squad!

James Stanley's avatar

THIS. Right here. No, they shouldn't have all stayed home, or simply wore more t-shirts, held up more auction signs, or quietly walked out - they should've had the *balls* like Al Green did, and stood up one by one and shouted that asshole down for every single lie he blurted out. Do what the constituents are doing and get *mad*, and if need be, get *kicked out*. That was the place to do it, for all the world to see, in addition to the left-leaning media outlets where they're preaching to the choir. What Al did was electric and I was begging for more.

Slotkin, for all the good she did bring up, was not pointed enough in calling out Trump's bullshit. And she voted for *eight* of these miserable cabinet members, not to mention working in the CIA under Bush. These Dems don't have the fire we need in this absolute catastrophic situation we are in.

I'm afraid that history will look back on this, after Trump purposefully tanks the economy, sends millions into the streets, and then institutes martial law. I hope it doesn't happen, but it's increasingly looking like it may.

I have the same sense of despair when I hear someone on our side praising Reagan, because I lived through 8 years of that misery. However, the Hopium blog had a good point: this comment wasn’t for Democrats, it’s for Republicans who can’t figure out why Trump is such a lover of the Evil Empire. Hence the speech was in essence opening a new front against Trump.

Jeff I don’t know where to start. Habba Habba Yam Yam trashing our vets like they are “losers and suckers” WTAF? Donnie’s cascade of lies or watching Canadian TV as liquor stores remove American liquor with a majority of liquor from Kentucky along with tobacco products from the US. As for “Golf with MAGAs” yesterday they were unusually quiet considering the precipitous fall in the American stock markets coupled with the tariffs..virtually no defense of the defenseless and I’m here for that, also collecting money from MAGAS playing golf. Best comment last night? It was the moment the great Texas Congresswoman, Jasmine Crockett called Donald “Putin’s ho”. I’ll take the humor in this time of darkness. Best to All.
