This needs to be the top story on every news program tonight. But we’ll probably only see it on MSNBC—so unfortunately, the people who need to hear what these victims had to say never will.

However, word does spread -- and remember the red-state women who've come out against abortion bans? My strong hunch is that red-state women have been abused in about the same proportion as blue-state women and will have an interest in this that the men in their lives may not share. That said, I'm grateful to Rep. Massie (R-KY) for taking a leading role in this.

I suspect, given the relative concentration of biblical evangelical communities in red areas over blue, that there are more unreported assaults in red states.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

Very, very likely. If your church says the man's in charge and your neighbors don't offer support, it has to be hard to even imagine getting help. Welcome to Gilead . . .

I totally agree that there are fewer report but most likely more abuse especially in the rural areas.

Yes, women in Red states came out abortion bans and what came of it? Crickets now. Those same states all went for Trump. I dont expect this to be any different. Abortion mattered in the midterms in 2022, but I dont think it mattered in 2024.

I'm watching, asshole trump has military flyovers interrupting the press conference.

Hate to say it but this presser is really mismanaged. (I used to be a journalist.) they all should have photos of themselves as children, for starters.

They're giggling and laughing, fanning themselves, squinting into the sun. Someone didn't plan this well AT ALL. What a missed opportunity.

Expand full comment
Kim Steeves's avatar

I completely agree on the photos of them as children, so we can see who had the harm done to.

Expand full comment
Veronica Speedwell's avatar

The mind reels. Why hold this press conference outdoors where people are clearly distracted and uncomfortable, and where it's subject to flyovers.

Why on earth not have handout photos of the women as children?

And the presser should have rolled out as a staccato one-after-the-other account with nitty gritty details. Instead it opened up like an Academy Awards speech with everyone thanking one another. They stepped on their own news! So frustrating.

Now the asshole trump is talking live on TV and CNN has cut to that.

It wasn't "subject to flyovers". Trump announced it yesterday as a deliberate effort to disrupt the press conference.

She showed some maturity. I am betting that Congress is the most diversity MTG every dealt with in her life, and it is eye opening, even with the MAGA eyes shut through life strategy. That she is standing up for women is surprising but good. There are cracks in the MAGA wall, and the women are taking sides. Where the hell are pretend to be caring Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowski. That they would let MTG, Lauren Bobert and Nancy Mace lead this is shocking. They clearly don't want to be associated with them, but by doing that, they associate themselves with pedophiles instead.

The article on Just Security this afternoon makes the case that this my fall under the category of assassination, or more simply, murder. Jeff, this refugee from Laughing Pines nursing home, the tell is his hair and makeup… seen this movie several times over the years visiting nursing homes and then he speaks and confirms our suspicions. In to divert of the Epstein witnesses testimony today I see we destroyed a ship off Venezuela, allegedly carrying drugs..killing 11. I’m so old I remember the protocol for this type of operation……seize the ship, identify the contraband, remove it, arrest all aboard, then refer for criminal prosecution… Simple… Not so simple for people intent on blowing things up…best to All

About Rocket City …

Space Command is the central nervous system of our nuclear infrastructure. Biden chose to headquarter it in Colorado ibecause all the pertinent Space Force facilities were already there.

It wasn't about politics. It was about military readiness. It didn't make sense to put Space Force headquarters in any state other than Colorado when the only priority should be quick and effective communication in a nuclear crisis and there was already an infrastructure.

But Alabama is a GOP state and there are massive contracts involved.

Expand full comment
Leu2500's avatar

Meh. There are already plenty of government contracts managed on the Arsenal: missiles, strategic missiles, helicopters, Nasa. Not to mention they’ve moved a bunch of FBI stuff there.

AL is so red, this move doesn’t get anymore Rs added to the Congressional delegation. But it does give Ds in CO more to run on. Look! Rs took jobs & $ away from CO.

Trump can’t stop cutting off his nose to spite his face.

What strikes me with this latest hilarious post, is that the idiocy, incompetence, and corruption of this appalling administration is so overwhelming it's almost impossible to parody, other than to just report actual events going on. My big fear, at the cusp of economic collapse, is that the bulk of the American public today really is just too dumb, lazy, or comfortably numb to sustain the republic. I did love your reference to the munchkins singing in Wizard of Oz; "...not merely dead but really most sincerely dead." One can only hope.

I'd like to hear more about your ideas on this. All those guns in the hands of all those dumb people mean precisely what? That any resistance to our democracy being destroyed is utterly futile and that they can all just enslave us with impunity? That has been their message to us for two decades.

The point you missed was the one being made. "...to sustain the republic" was the operant phrase. I have difficulty believing that the presence of lots of guns is sufficient to sustain a republic. Especially since they are too stupid to know that they even live in one. For the moment.

Great observation. I would want to neither over- or under-read this. The skanks can read tea leaves, and those may be telling them about Trump's slipping power. They may be the first rats off the MAGA ship. Trump's response to the petition and its GOP support was surprisingly hysterical and helpless, I think there are some chess pieces in mid-shuffle right now.

Steve Vladek, SCOTUS expert, has a nice legal analysis of using 32 USC section 502… instead of posse comitatus. & how it’s not the slam dunk the regime thinks it is. For ex, Illinois could choose to go straight to SCOTUS.

Another reason why handing the leadership over to TX Gov. Abbott instead of keeping it with Trump could be a problem: the fugitive uteruses act they passed in TX, as well as the warrants out for the arrest of OB/GYN docs in places like NY or CA, as issued by at least two states, like TX and LA. If the TX national guard take a doctor into their custody to return with to TX, that could start a civil war, too, especially if the Illinois national guard attempt to stop it. For more information, I refer readers to the Abortion Every Day substack.
