Good Morning All…. I had a text conversation with a MAGA golf partner yesterday. He was complaining about all the $$ our country is sending to Ukraine. I gave him historical insight concerning his opinion, mentioning American First, Charles Lindbergh, Nazis rolling over Poland, invading France and most of Europe I said if our country had not “spent our funds” to engage the Nazis our world would vastly different. I was told that Trump was correct, I was told that historical comparisons were not valid and we should not spend our money defending Ukraine, because MAGA is “realist” Thus, my friends, the Putin ideology. In addition I sent him a piece from the Bulwark, non Trump Republicans and conservative.. I was told that these were leftest viewpoints, even though the members of the Bulwark were former Regan supporters… Brainwashed by propaganda, misinformation and disinformation… I grow so very tired of dealing with the uneducated. Expand full comment

When JFK was president, the tax rate was 70% and they were still wealthy. We should never have had as billionaires. Because they are not paying their fair share of taxes, more billionaires are created. If four, just four of the richest billionaires could end world hunger and poverty. But because they are greedy people and care nothing about others. President John Kennedy, himself the product of one of America’s grandest fortunes, asked Congress to drop the nation’s top tax rate down to 65 percent. Congress would mostly oblige, and that top tax rate would sink to 70 percent in 1965. In the 1980s, Ronald Reagan and his friends on Capitol Hill would shove that rate down even further, first to 50 and then to 28 percent. (From Sam Pizzigati co-edits Inequality.org). I hope they can tax them like that again.
