They wanted to close down the Broadview ICE detention center right outside of Chicago, because of so much protesting daily, but they did not like the optics of that. I don't know if they shut it down yet, but last I read they had not. The fact that they are going after Portland tells me their governor did not protest as strongly as Pritzker did here in Illinois.

I've been hating them nearly my entire life. At 8 years old, the state senator's son was in my boyscout cub pack. That kid was a rabid hater and took every chance he had to put me down. (without going into TMI, yup, I'm one of them thar ethnic groups.) If that was today and I was still in upstate new york, exposing the rabid racism the state senator taught his offspring, would have ended the Senator's career there and then, but that was back in the mid 1960's and understanding and expressing the only appropriate response to racism was an evolving element in American interpersonal communication.
