The argument as to whether the state's AG was a Law Enforcement or Court Officer was one that was going on when I lived in Los Angeles and San Diego in the 1970s, and unless I misheard got settled on the side of "Cop". So, while Officers of the Court *may* go armed, Law Enforcement Officers are *expected* to go armed....
To be fair, I would imagine defense attorneys feel the same way if they keep getting clients who are clearly guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, so all they can do is work out some kind of deal with the State....
