Truly, what in the Hell is fucking wrong with Republican men? Is rape and sexual fantasies all they think about, when they’re not praising Dear Leader? How sick are they? And are they such misogynists that they hate women to the extent that they wish them all raped, pregnant and forced to carry a rapist’s child to term? WTF??

Norie's avatar

I cannot believe this guy might beat Sherrod Brown!!!

Susan Jane's avatar

I can't, either! He's a contemptible creep!!!

I just sauntered over to ActBlue and donated again to Sherrod Brown.

Derek Smith's avatar

I ran back and donated another $50 to Sherrod. While I was there, I gave another $50 to Colin Allred.

kdsherpa's avatar

(I gave Brown $100, then panicked and gave another $250. I'd been giving to Allred since January, I think it was Jan? But gave another $150. Been doing that for all of the potential/already Democratic Senators -- even Dan Osborn in Nebraska! So nice to learn who he is and find out how great his campaign is going! Already did big-time for Biden and then for Kamala. Draining the retirement account. What difference does it make? If They win, it's all over anyway.)

Hannah's avatar

kdsherpa, thanks for your service.

PJ Schuster's avatar

That’s exactly what I’ve been doing. I’ve given pretty big chunks to Osborn, Allred, Powell, Gallegos, Gabe Vasquez-NM, & so many, many others I’ve lost count. I’m 74 & I damned sure can’t take it to the grave with me, & this election is too important to sit on the sidelines.

Thanks for your help too kd 💙💙

I’ll go make another donation to Sherrod right now, Moreno just can’t win.

kdsherpa's avatar

I've been pushing hard for Tester. He's a really good guy; his opponent is a monster. Haven't given anything to Vasquez because I haven't heard anything about that race. What's the story?

TJTarheel's avatar

I donated to act blue twice and now everybody and their brother are filling up my messages and email with request but I just can’t on social security. They shouldn’t share the emails of donors but of course they do and you can’t request it.

PJ Schuster's avatar

Just delete, delete, delete. Since I have given to so many, I get as many as 50 texts a day asking for donations. I just continue to give to the ones that I prefer & can afford to & then just delete them each day. 😊

Susan Jane's avatar

I know. It's a lot. What scary, frantic, desperate times.

JD Vance and "Gym" Jordan as exemplars of the acumen of Ohio voters. Strike "Ohio" and replace with "American ".

Deb Martina's avatar

Kudos. Ohio is key to restoring America to the hope of normalcy in DC. Of course there are plenty of others (lady graham, cruz, the crazy ladies in multiple states), but clearly these two are at the top of the sycophants.

Karla's avatar

I don’t have enough time to list what’s wrong with them. I think it boils down to self esteem so low that they will stomp on anyone different from them in order to feel better about themselves. They need to control women to feel superior and because they can’t control themselves or other men. The gun nut thing is because behind their beer bellies and bravado, they’re ignorant cowards who can’t settle a disagreement with words so they carry weapons. I’ve met a few and these are my observations.

TJTarheel's avatar

They don’t hate us they fear us as they fear all minorities or did women forget that we are, a minority. Especially republican men fear us. Every time a woman gets a promotion, a raise, a coveted position many men believe they’re more deserving. Why? Because they’re men.

Women constitute a majority of Americans; however, women are a minority group because they are distinguishable from the dominant group (men who have more power, privilege, and authority) and are subject to subordinated treatment.

Thanks for the roundup Jeff, however you might have skipped over the story of the AZ MAGA who was arrested for shooting up the Democratic headquarters in Tempe AZ…. 3 times…. When LE found a machine gun in his back seat it gave them pause… Results of a search of his home? Michael Kelly had…. 120 guns, silencers, 250,000 rounds of ammunition, a grenade launcher, mysterious white powder. Why he didn’t have a Bradley tank in his garage..I’ll never know. But hey fellow travelers…. This is what we are up against here in AZ and elsewhere… For MAGA… violence is the norm…not the exception. Rest up folks, we still have work to do…

Mingo's avatar

You left out the part he is a 60 year old WHITE male, retired aerospace engineer living in an upscale neighborhood. Currently he has 3 felony charges against him for terrorism and other charges totaling 7. This morning the DA added another felony charge and upped his bail another $500,00 on top of the current $500,000 all in cash. Really WTF is wrong with republican men? It's no wonder we women want nothing to do with them. I'm walking my dog to mail my several hundred postcards at the post office 1/4 mile away. VOTE BLUE.

Deborah Hunter's avatar

Whenever I read domestic terrorism/guns, I automatically assume white and male. My assumption is usually right.

arne link's avatar

I am reminded of the Las Vegas shooter. He had the same bio and all the guns. He did slaughter and wound more than 100 innocent people. What is wrong with these men. Why do they want to hurt, hurt and hurt people? I'm glad they caught the AZ guy before he could outdo the Las Vegas murderer.

Fastball Fredo's avatar

Thanks for adding more of a background on this terrorist.

Mingo's avatar

Continuing my Saturday morning adventure walk to the post office.... Walking back dog pal and myself crossed a busy intersection littered with political signs. Couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of nazis.

Deborah Hunter's avatar

It was on the CNN app, Twitter and that horrid Daily Mail.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

That's because the Daily Fail is a tabloid, they live for that stuff.

PJ Schuster's avatar

Several hosts on msnbc covered it, the quarter million rounds of ammo is just insanity; & yes, we must refer those people as what they are: terrorists!!

Susan Niemann's avatar

I read about that...HOLY SHIT! My best pal lives in Tucson and she's working hard to get the state blue. Hang in there!

Rick Calegari's avatar

Scary as hell and you have to wonder how many of these beyond heavily-armed demented MAGA assholes are out there plotting to do similar shit? It's a very sick society we live in at the moment and there's never any condemnation from dear leader or the GOP Congress for any of these violent acts. My wife and I went to our local Democratic headquarters yesterday to pick up a Harris Walz lawn sign. Even with Google maps, this place was rather difficult to locate. Like my wife said, there's a very good reason for that.

NYT did a full treatment of Reno (Washoe County, NV). The article detailed how the election deniers and false electors are running our county and city and used it as an example of how these folks are working most of the swing states.

Fastball Fredo's avatar

I spent last weekend in Prescott Valley… let me tell ya, people are so bitter, so sensitive as to anyone that does not tow the MAGA ideology, anyone who does not praise DJT…. Such loyalty to their Dear Leader reminds me of Mao’s Red Guard…As I keep telling folks, including MAGAS, expect more violence from MAGAS. Look at that poor election worker in Texas, female, over 60, gets punched by a MAGA because she told him to take off that MAGA cap while at the voting center.. Anger, bitterness and fear is all they got….

Marlene Lerner-Bigley (CA)'s avatar

Saw that, although I thought the volunteer who was punched was a man!

George A. Polisner's avatar

Thank you Jeff.

(And I mean Tiedrich. Not “Democracy dies in darkness” Bezos)

Bezos prevented his Washington Post from their planned endorsement of VP Harris. Why? It seems he enjoys his Trump/GOP 8.55% corporate tax rate. And he also wants some Federal contracts for his rocket company, Blue Origin. While it may be considered shrewd and not stupid, supporting tyranny over democracy when one of your major companies relies on consumers? Probably not so smart in the long run.

Eileen's avatar

I am not a Substack author, however I was so angry this morning about Jeff Bozo, I wrote my rage. Sharing because I think it needs reminding what came before at WAPO.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SAY HIS NAME, WAPO! JEFF BEZOS! Jamal Khashoggi gave his life for journalism. Time remembered him as the “Guardian of the Truth.” Jamal Khashoggi’s last job was at the Washington Post before he was brutally murdered by MBS’s goons.

In Saudi Arabia, truth died in darkness a long time ago. Trump was president when Mr. Khashoggi was brutally murdered by the order of the Saudi prince. MBS’s direct culpability was confirmed by our CIA. Trump brushed it off. Dodged. And his son in law, Jared Kushner, fawned over the Saudis to fill his pockets with 2 billion dollars for his hedge fund in spite of the fact Jared had no relevant experience except access to our nation’s TOP SECRET documents stored in his father-in-law’s Florida home illegally.

Yes, SHAME ON YOU, Jeff Bezos! You should be standing up for free speech in the name of Jamal Khashoggi. Your employee. You single-handedly refused your editorial board’s wishes to endorse VP Kamala Harris for president days before the most consequential election. In that moment, you showed every journalist around the world, and especially in your employ, who you care about. Not them. You acted just like Trump and stepped aside to let their brave work wither - for truth to die for your cowardice in the face of Trump’s authoritarianism and clear and dangerous fascist plans for our country.

Ironically, you coward, it was MBS who wanted to post a picture of your manhood. Only then did you show real, intense interest. The individual you ultimately wanted to protect was the little guy dangling in your trousers.

George A. Polisner's avatar

Thank you Eileen. An important reminder of the courage of Jamal Kashoggi and the role played by the criminal Trump and his insidious “boy wonder” Jared Kushner.

Deborah Hunter's avatar

Always, always follow the money when someone (or a corporation) makes a decision that makes no sense or looks like it is not in their best interests. I started doing that at work and I no longer wonder why admin does such dumb stuff. Actually, it's not actual money with these billionaires like Bezos, Musk and Zuckerberg. They have enough for many lifetimes. It's ego/narcissism. That beast will never be fed enough. It's who can have the most or achieve the most. The very traits that made them initially successful are what we are dealing with now.

Dr J's Sanity Space's avatar

Eileen: Excellent! This morning’s WaPo had several negative comments as well. Bezos’ action is in huge contrast to his exwife’s philanthropy.

Eileen's avatar

Ex wife of Bezos is such a breath of fresh air. You can't take it with you. She understands that all that money could be put to good use now.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

She also does it because he is very cheap and never would. Also the girlfriend lives to pry money out of him for a couple of charities.

“Former Post executive editor Marty Baron, who led the paper under Bezos during the first Trump administration called the decision an act of “cowardice.”

“To declare a moment of high principle, only 11 days before the election that is just highly suspect that is just not to be believed that this was a matter of principle at this point,” Baron told CNN’s Michael Smerconish on Saturday morning.”

Bezos is just signaling to Trump that he will bend over as far as he needs to to avoid displeasing the emperor. He doesn't seem to realize that even if he hollows out the paper to the point that Mark Thiessen is its most liberal columnist, Trump will still demand more. Of course, if Bezos gets those sweet government contracts for Blue Origin, he'll let WaPo fold up and die.

HI2thDoc's avatar

BOGU, Jeff! (Bend over, grease up)

George A. Polisner's avatar

Thank you Burke. I do think his intent is purely self-interest whereas with Musk, Murdoch, Thiel, Mercer, and others it is also about power and influence, subverting any attempt at meaningful democracy for their own gain.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

Actually he hired a Murdoch tabloid low-life named Will Lewis, who was recently in court in the UK, for his part in covering up the phone hacking scandal, remember when the UK tabloids (under Murdoch) hacked the dead child's (Milly Dowling if I remember correctly) phone leading the parents to believe she was still alive? This guy was hired to hide the evidence so he deleted hundreds of emails despite being told by investigators not to. This is who Bezos hired to run WaPo, a tabloid criminal. Don't expect anything but right-wing garbage from him.

Hannah's avatar

Burke, WaPo had a column about Starlink hardware being stolen from Ukrainian forces and used against them. Bad thing.

Now they have a column about Starlink units being sold to Russia like it's a good thing. So they have outed themselves as Russian propaganda.

Kathleen Weber's avatar

I'm sure you heard that the Washington Post had an editorial ready endorsing Kamala Harris until its owner Jeff Bezos decided not to antagonize Donnie Convict. So, they resorted to a well-known PR trick. They announced the unpopular news on Friday afternoon in the hope that it would have less impact. Brave, brave, Sir Bezos!

BTW, this isn't the first time a WaPo owner has been threatened, but it's the first time they caved. Nixon's Attorney General John Mitchell famously threatened: "If you print that, Katie Graham will get her tit caught in a wringer.' Katie Graham printed it.

I just hope this October surprise manages to give a few thousand more people the energy to turn out for Harris. Clearly, everyone who reads Jeff is motivated 100% of the time, but I know there are people who are motivated only 60% of the time. I'd be happy to transport each and every one of them to the polls in a wheelbarrow, all by myself.

Unfortunately, I suspect not….

Susie in OH's avatar

Yes, they somehow believe he will play nice if they grovel. And SCOTUS seems to believe they will still have power. HA! Trump will shut down any agency or group with power to say no to him. What are they thinking giving him immunity? Now he can do whatever he wants so who needs them?

Domestic abusers, rapists, and pedophiles, that's who.

It made my skin positively crawl.

He had a Nazi writer working for him that he had to fire, because he was so awful, when he worked for Fox. Now that he is a free agent, it is obvious he hired him back. And he writes what appeals to other Nazi incels, that love Tucker. Tucker himself is a pathetic, sniveling Putin suck-up.

The crazy stupido’s are coming back out here in fascist wannabe Shasta County. The insecure little coward dropout boys are driving their penis extender jacked up Dodge Rams with large Felon flags a flyin in the exhaust filled breeze. It’s a sight to behold. I drove 3 miles to my grandson’s Halloween party and saw 3 different jackass displays. 🙄 My turbo SUV smoked em at every light. Stand back and stand by, Losers.

I have an 18 yo Saturn Ion. I beat out one of those flag flying freaks at a light just last week. I have a very quick reaction time.

I swear the words from Forrest Gump's mom ring truer today than when they were first said.

"Stupid is as stupid does". And man are these people stupid.

"there are 9 planets (don’t you fucking dare argue with me about Pluto)"

Deborah Hunter's avatar

I was pissed when they took away Pluto for awhile.

Kathleen Weber's avatar

Jeff is 150% right about the number of planets (as he is about everything).

Dark Phoenix's avatar

Actually, depending on how you want to count, there are either 8 planets or 17 planets. The entire reason they downgraded Pluto is because they found a bunch more around the same size out there (8 at last count). So if Pluto's a planet, so is Eris, Haumea, Makemake, Sedna, Ceres, Quaror, Orcus and Gonggong.

Kathleen Weber's avatar

Guess what.

The number of people who prefer nine planets— 330 million.

The number of people who prefer another number of planets— <100,000.

The number of people who believe this issue should be decided by elite scientists: <100,000.

Practical utility of forcing the general public to embrace an ultra-correct scientific definition of a planet: 0.

Damage to the image of science among ordinary people: enormous. The clear lesson is that scientists will try to boss you around even on issues that have no practical importance.

See how elites make themselves hated? Seriously, y'all seem totally clueless and wonder why no one wants to listen to you. You are wearing out your welcome and will not be listened to on issues that ARE important.

BTW, I was a pre med at one point and did well in all my courses.

Robert Eckert's avatar

The worst thing is that they did it just before the Pluto flyby, pooh-poohing the importance of Pluto just before we got to see how nifty a place it really is.

Dark Phoenix's avatar

Guess it's a good thing the public doesn't get to decide that. I'm sure there were morons who said the same thing when Pluto was first discovered ("THERE ARE ONLY 8 PLANETS! PUBLIC PREFERS THAT!").

Kathleen Weber's avatar

You really did not get my point. Science is doing damage to its ability to help people by trying to force trivialities down their throats. Scientists should be pushy ONLY when the information is necessary and important. Otherwise, on less important issues, like the number of planets, you can take the long slow road of teaching the new definition to children and it will eventually become predominant.

Your response shows that you do not appreciate the value of not wearing out your welcome. In my view, science is extremely important— it should learn how to communicate effectively, not pedantically. By the way, I sincerely hope you correct people when they call bacteria, viruses, and even fungi, germs. Why do you permit people and even doctors to call infectious agents germs? A pedantic person like yourself should get on that issue promptly!

Kathleen Weber's avatar

No response? Do you agree with me that scientists should communicate with the public primarily on issues of importance? Isn't it more important for scientists to try the to teach the public the value of vaccines rather than the number of planets? Or is it fine to badger the public on every issue all the time? If scientists learn how to communicate effectively with the general public on important issues, maybe they won't be thought of as the socially inept characters on the Big Bang theory.

Too often it seems to me that scientists have never heard of the 8 forms of intelligence. They think theirs is the only one. Definitely irritating.

David (Dave) Jaspers's avatar

As a mathematician, I give you full credit for that answer.

Kathleen Weber's avatar

I will state the obvious: I'm not doing math I'm doing literature. The literary use of numbers is poorly understood by STEM-folk.

It's not like Leon is in the voting booth with them ffs.

I canceled my WAPO subscription yesterday along with thousands of others, let's see what Bozo has to say when Trump loses and he sucked up to him yesterday in TX for nothing.

It's getting closer and my Xanax supply is running low.

Hi Jeff, I’m a straight, old, retired guy, but if I were able to be raped by Bernie Moreno, I would want it to be in Ohio, where the voters have resoundingly said I can have an abortion…oh wait! I’m a man, and I can have an abortion anywhere, anytime in America!!!
