I am claustrophobic, and I've been in crowds this big a few times in my life. I start to hyperventilate and get dizzy. I came close to this at a outdoor concert two years ago. Hadn't been in a crowd like that in at least a decade, and I had to leave it.

I got there at 2 as I saw on the NO KINGS website and there were maybe 5 people. I was concerned, then texted a friend who used to live in Beverly, now in Colorado. She looked on the Beverly website she's still connected to and she told me 3 pm. thankfully, by 3-3:30 there were plenty of folks. Not a single counter protester this time, and nobody giving us the finger! I'd estimate at least 600 people, but I'm not good at estimating crowd sizes. Lots and lots and lots of honks, and yells of solidarity. Sadly, mostly us older folks, not many younger faces, but I get that.

I've noticed that lately I've been even more fatigued than I was after getting Covid, and that was the worst case of body-mind exhaustion I've ever experienced. These days, the last month in particular, my body has turned to lead. I have Winston Churchill's 'Black Dog' sitting on my chest. And I don't have someone like his wife, Clementine, to wrangle the dog into its kennel.
I used fiction to escape it. Right now I'm working my way through the fantasy world of Canadian author Charles de Lint. I force myself to leave Substack and the news by 1PM, and it works. I'm still physically fatigued, but my mood improves.

Annabelle, I have been battling depression my entire life, to the point of despair sometimes. I tend to turn anger/fear inward, because angry people terrify me - but my own anger scares me the most.
I've noticed that lately I've been even more fatigued than I was after getting Covid, and that was the worst case of body-mind exhaustion I've ever experienced. These days, the last month in particular, my body has turned to lead. I have Winston Churchill's 'Black Dog' sitting on my chest. And I don't have someone like his wife, Clementine, to wrangle the dog into its kennel.
I used fiction to escape it. Right now I'm working my way through the fantasy world of Canadian author Charles de Lint. I force myself to leave Substack and the news by 1PM, and it works. I'm still physically fatigued, but my mood improves.
We will survive this nightmare. We can't quit until we see how it turns out, and the good guys triumph over the evil overlords. ❤️

Annabelle, I know exactly how you feel. However, I just attended a No Kings rally this morning, and it was wonderfully affirming. More people than I’ve ever seen at a rally in this town, most cars honking as they passed. It gave me hope that we’ll outlive this regime. We’ll need you and millions of other good people to reconstruct a US that honors the intent of the Constitution. Hang in there.

Do we have that perspective in the US today? The guy currently holding our title of POTUS is right there in the "jungle', unbound by law or tradition, beating his chest and humiliating "We the People" with his cruelty and lawlessness.
In his view, "He" and only "He" can "save" the rich, White Christian islands of "civilization", even if he has to violate every norm and every law of civilization to do it. He must be the Biggest, Meanest, Most Dangerous beast in the world to save "civilization". (And pocket Big $ fees in the process). Monarchs, Kings, Emperors, Dictators have all operated this way throughout human history.
