Laura Loomer is about as hideous as they come. The Republicans are acting like pissy little grade schoolers, name calling and finger pointing and talking ridiculous shit. What EVERYONE needs to remember-this is an election between a free country and an authoritarian state. The press be damned. The people are talking now. As it damn well should be!

bruce somers's avatar

I believe the Blue Wave is going to continue...💙

Megan Ross's avatar

I believe that too! I can't believe how many people I talked with while phone banking yesterday who are all in for Harris! I'm excited again! These are people that were going to vote for Joe, but they're more excited than ever to vote for Kamala. #HappyDance

Teri's avatar

#HappyDance here too. Saw Kamala at Milwaukee. rally. Imma have to soundproof my walls, baby! Clapping, laughing, yelling back to her LOL. If you want to write postcards: www.turnoutpac.org/postcards

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

You are my hero Megan, keep up the good work.

Doc Blase''s avatar

Let's count chickens after November 5th. Till then this deal is far from done.

Andrea Fruggiero's avatar

Oh, we know. But we can are ARE excited that new juice is flowing into a big blue wave!!! And tRump is only getting crazier and crazier every day. And he's TERRIFIED of Harris! She's brilliant!

Marie Martin's avatar

Not sure there's one among us who doesn't understand that this deal is far from done. Seems like we are all pretty grown up here, so no need for a knuckle rap reminder. We are all starving for a bit of good luck and stars shining down on our team for a change. Don't throw shade on the parade. Let loose with a bit of excitement. That becomes a part of the equation of success.

bruce somers's avatar

While Trump started his re-election campaign even before his inauguration in 2017,the effort to defeat the MAGAs at the ballot box started also...it will continue...

Charles Austin's avatar

Their narrative is all moot. I can feel the concussions from the explosion of GOP craniums all the way in Central Ohio. Somebody get Laura Loomer some rabies meds.

Rick Calegari's avatar

She's always foaming from the mouth with the same old pathetic, toxic bullshit. It would be a cold day in hell if she ever told it like it really is such as the perverted, convicted felon, false idol's infatuation with under aged girls which seems to be prevalent within the GOP these days. Just ask botox boy Matt Gaetz. The airwaves seem to be perfectly fine with sick, unfit deviants but not those candidates or current members of Congress who want to do what's best for the country.

Megan Ross's avatar

Loomer sure is getting a lot of attention doing it though! Isn't it sad how these Looney-Toon people get all the press and people that are actually doing good for us don't get any? Our lame-stream is pathetic.

Susan Niemann's avatar

I agree! The media is contributing to our issues without a doubt!

bruce somers's avatar

Hopefully their ratings and clicks will reflect Americans growing disgust with corporate media, and the growing shift to progressive media for accurate information.

Rebecca Elliott's avatar

She may be getting attention, but she isn't garnering any votes for Trump. Harris is now pulling farther ahead in polls. I'm "cautiously giddy," but there's still much work to be done. And don't forget the down-ballot races! Those are now more critical than ever!

PJ Schuster's avatar

I know Rebecca, & besides giving every dollar I can afford to House & Senate candidates all over the nation, I just this minute sent for my first stack of 300 postcards from turnoutpac.org

for my House Rep Melanie Stansbury.

I have never volunteered for a political campaign before, but now it’s Do or Die time.

Rebecca Elliott's avatar

It is, indeed. And every one of us can do SOMETHING. One thing I do is post a notice in my apartment complex's laundry room saying that I will print absentee ballot requests free for anyone requesting one. It's a small thing, but I print between 40-50 every election cycle, in a complex with 50 apartments. Just wish I could afford to add a stamped, addressed envelope with each one! Maybe next year. My medical costs should be a little lower then.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

That is her whole act though, she couldn't get elected even here in FL, and we are the spawning ground of Floriduh man and his meth gator sidekick.

Dee Whitman's avatar

Gaetz's decision to alter his face just before the convention -- where he'd be seen by (probably) tens of millions of ppl on TV and social media, meaning that his new face was sure to be a topic of convo and a big distraction -- is just one more sign of how clueless he and all MAGAs are, in all things.

Megan Ross's avatar

I didn't watch one second of the RNC, but, I did see clips on Instagram and Facebook of Gaetz' face and I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants!

Susan Niemann's avatar

Now theres a meme going around with his stupid face inside a Liberaci outfit....it's hilarious. 😂

P123Sunny's avatar

"Two white tigers and a life partner away from a Vegas act"... as someone said.

bruce somers's avatar

What reason would Matt Gaetz/Eddie Munster have to try and make himself look younger?? Can anyone think of any??

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

He looks like JaFar the villain in "Aladdin".

Robert Eckert's avatar

TV's Frank posted: I have to disagree with everyone who thinks Matt Gaetz's plastic surgery was a bad job. It accentuated the creepy pedo look that expresses his inner essence, while preserving the face's extreme punchability.

Marie Martin's avatar

And shows how they are hungry for attention. ANY attention, positive or negative. They can't tell the difference. Like toddlers.

bruce somers's avatar

I didn't watch either, but apparently it was mostly old white guys whining about the immigrant invasion who had a serious case of 'Biden and Democrat Derangement Syndrome'

Teri's avatar

Read several anti-Kamala posts today. Witch, why no children (which no one should ever ask), meme of a GOP guy turned into a newt by witch. Got 1,000 postcards today. Am not going to give 1 oz. of energy on those not ALL IN for Kamala.

bruce somers's avatar

New voter registrations are up 700% in the last 48 hrs.

PJ Schuster's avatar

That statistic + the 178K new campaign volunteers is just mind-blowing & so energizing, exciting, happy-dancing wonderful, that I can barely contain myself

Marie Martin's avatar

My husband and I each got 500. Going make a party out of it all.

bruce somers's avatar

She's even crazier than Drunky-McWine-Box.

PJ Schuster's avatar

Forgiven….never hurts to remind us of every single horrific, misogynistic thing that felon has said. How in hell Megyn can defend him & sit with him to interview him is beyond my comprehension.

She was a part of the #MeToo movement & now she is totally debasing herself. It’s sickening.

'Republicans have lost the popular vote for 32 years'....that sums it up perfectly, their solution seems to be to eliminate the Democratic party and the rule of law.

Marg KJ's avatar

Or say stupid shit that media loves putting on msm so dumbass white ppl believe them!

Megan Ross's avatar

Loomer is just gross. Her talking about only married women with children having rights, is ironic since she's a single woman with no kids. Go figure...

Poor Laura. Mebbe she's a hateful nutcase because she needs love. Mebbe some brave soul can volunteer to take one for the nation. Nah, that wouldn't work. And no one is that stupid to try

EFS's avatar

You know the Republicans would never allow exceptions; if you had a child and they passed away, you'd lose your right to vote in a heartbeat.

PJ Schuster's avatar

Yep, I’d fall into that category. Had my only child for 39 ½ yrs, but now I’d just be seen by them as a childless crazy dog lady.

Drumph, Vance, & that entire party are dangerous to our freedoms & to our very lives.

The blue tsunami 🌊 is building!!

Laura Loomer managed to disgust me in a way worse than Trump's plastic surgery and bleeding from wherever comments. She is an atrocious, sick person. Apparently, back in April of this year, Trump wanted to hire her.

Because she gets more clicks than reporting actual news. The media these days is absolutely pathetic, in both print and TV platforms... Ugh. 🙄

bruce somers's avatar

MAGAs make-up a non-existent issue, and then whip up the cult to rage about it,that's what they do.

Marie Martin's avatar

It's called creating the news, not reporting.

Wag the Dog

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

Yes they are trying to manufacture the news, which is yellow-press territory.

Dee Whitman's avatar

Fwiw, I think it's better that we know what the crazies-with-some-influence are saying; if we don't know, then we can't formulate useful ways to *try* to reach the parts of that audience that are still reachable.

I know that all of them might seem unreachable, but I like to remind myself that Derek Black, the son of one of the biggest-wigs in white supremacy, has completely rejected the indoctrination and has written about singular-their journey.

bruce somers's avatar

I don't know about you,but it takes me about 10 seconds to hear if someone gets their information from Fox and Newsmax while they're being interviewed on MSM.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

🎯Yes, because they say things that are not true, as if they were real.

D Kitterman's avatar

It is definitely better to know what these cretins are howling, so that we can make fun of and laugh at them. They hate that, but are too stupid to self correct. Plus, it provides so much material to SNL et al.

Susan Keefer's avatar

I was extremely upset about President Biden stepping aside. I was worried about the reaction to Kamala, but to my surprise, Kamala is uniting the Democrats including young voters. Beyoncé has lent her music to the Kamala campaign. And the money, wow!!

I needed a day off to mourn and today I recognize what President Biden did for our country.

He’s a great, great president! 💙

Lena Fontaine's avatar

I feel the same. I was very sad but I'm super impressed by how they've managed the transition. I should have had more faith. I feel like a lot of planning went on behind the scenes.

Deborah Hunter's avatar

I'm not involved in politics so don't know what goes on behind the scenes. This was no accident. It is too smooth and well planned. Wait till Trump has his Deliverance Fest and bashes Biden. Let him have a few days of feeling like he's a shoo in for the WH. Then lower the boom. It was a Titanic boom. Because the MAGAs are impulsive, imbecilic and laser focused on Biden's age, there apparently was no Plan B. The totally ridiculous nonsense coming out of their camp now just shows how really dumb they are. Just like their candidate. And what's Donnie Diaper going to do now since I've heard that he's maybe not so in love with his little Hitler VP as he was last week? I just smile when I think of it. Our Speaker of the House needs to go. He's as big of a moron as the rest of them. I'm sure Comer will have to have a hearing now to invoke the 25th Amendment against Biden. Look at the millions of dollars and time wasted on their nonsense since 1/20/21.

Marian Goldsmith's avatar

"...maybe not so in love with his little ... VP" No problem. Dump will just fire him (or try to) like he learned to do on "The Apprentice". Haven't people noticed? He's pretty much of a one trick pony. Meaning no shame to ponies of course

Betsy L's avatar

Do you know that Dumpy has never fired anyone face-to-face in real life? He either got someone else to do it or did it via tweet, usually in the middle of the night. Dumpy's too big a coward to actually fire anyone in person.

Marian Goldsmith's avatar

Thanks for your clarification. I didn't know but hardly surprised. I expect "coward" is accurate but not strong enough. What makes anyone think he would take responsibility for any actions like firing someone? He won't take responsibility for things far worse. The buck simply doesn't stop where he is. We've seen evidence of that over and over again. (Sorry I'm getting carried away here. I'm so very tired of all of his stuff.)

Betsy L's avatar

Keep in mind that what I "know" comes from comments made by people in Dumpy's former administration and who worked on "The Apprentice" that I've read on news sites. They're not as authoritative as they should be. But Dumpy very publicly fired several of his key cabinet members by tweet, so I believe those claims. I'm tired of his BS too, so I get over-righteous about stuff.

Deborah Hunter's avatar

Trump will be the kiss of death for Vance one way or another. Name one person personal or professionally that has not been hurt somehow by Trump. He's pretty much the most toxic public figure since Hitler and the dictators of the 20th century.

PJ Schuster's avatar

As Rick Wilson so aptly observed; ETTD Everything Trump Touches Dies

bruce somers's avatar

It's likely Trump misspelled 'Vance' for his VP pick,he meant to write 'Pence'....damn autocorrect...and brain worms.

Lynn Van Haren's avatar

President Biden shows again that he is a brilliant politician. Don’t for one minute think he hadn’t contacted everyone necessary to assure a smooth hand off to Kamal

Mary Beth Horsington's avatar

I feel the same way! I love the way we are embracing Kamala! She’s smart and not afraid to show it.

Megan Ross's avatar

And that scares the hell out of the Republican party! Smart, capable women are like kryptonite to them. 😁

Katy Griffith's avatar

That’s exactly why they women out of the workforce by forcing women to have unwanted babies & losing their career chances due to childcare costs and lack of childcare. They are threatened by women-they are threatened by their power and their vote. Let’s keep them at home taking care of babies & living on poverty & unable to divorce their crappy, abusing husbands (JD Vance wants no fault divorce). Anything to make women miserable & keep them from participating in the world outside of the kitchen. Gee, where is the Brave, Wally, Eddie & Lumpy? Next the GOP will make laws that women will have to wear dresses & pearls while they clean house & cook meals. Women aren’t going to have it!! Vote blue!

PJ Schuster's avatar

You meant that he wants to get rid of

no-fault divorce

Katy Griffith's avatar

That’s right! Thanks for pointing that out

Ellen Howe Ballou's avatar

Well, of course! These “Commanders” think that women should be at home, having children, and raising them. If they can pressure women into home schooling the children, so much the better. 🤬

Patricia Gomes's avatar

Wonder how long it will take for them to miss that second paycheck and have to get a second job to support their ever growing families ????

PJ Schuster's avatar

They never think that far ahead. They only see the power & glory, never the consequences

Betsy L's avatar

That's why they want so badly to control women.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

Remember when she was grilling Then AG Jeff Sessions about the Russia connections? He claimed she made him nervous!

I feel exactly as you do. I cried most of Sunday, then I got back on the horse and started phone banking again. People are excited about Kamala and even one of Nikki Haley's voter PACs announced their support for her! I have a feeling we're going to see a Big Blue Wave in November and it's going to blow the RethuGlicans away.

Let me sum up's avatar

It's almost as if people are tired of this country being run by old white men. Huh, who knew?

PJ Schuster's avatar

Yeah, there are actually several old/older old, white, Democrat men who are real champions of the people.

The first one who popped into my mind was Sen Sheldon Whitehouse. That man has been ringing the alarm bells about our corrupt scotus for years.

It’s finally time for this country to fully realize the power of women. We’re done with the patriarchy and it’s decrepit male gaslighting. They’ve been holding us hostage forever - but not for much longer. We are going to gather strength as we head towards this election, growing in numbers and excitement. You haven’t seen anything yet. But for damn sure we’re not going back to the 1950’s with the steamrolling bullshit of the GOP at last seen as the decrepit party of liars and old men. We’re bathing in the glorious energy of women power. Get used to it.

Stranger Than Friction's avatar

Since I am too old to be a handmaiden and probably a martha, under a drumf (aka #34) regime, I would be heading to the poisonous, toxic mines to live out what few days I have remaining minus my teeth which have fallen out due to the pollution. All in for Kamala! No to a dystopian society.

Megan Ross's avatar

RIGHT ON! Well put. 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

Lynn Van Haren's avatar

I hope you are right but I feel old white men know that once we get power, there’s no going back. Why do you think they are enacting these draconian anti abortion laws??

PJ Schuster's avatar

The only way they are stopping us now is by cheating like they have already laid the plans to do. Hope everyone saw Rachel’s show last night, & if you didn’t go find the podcast of it.

She said there’s a reason drumph said his “Christians” wouldn’t have to vote again, but has also been saying numerous times about not needing any votes, that he has enough votes.

They have installed about 70 election denying election officials, only in the 6-7 swing states. Those people don’t even need to be in the big counties, just 1 official in 1 small county can refuse to certify the vote count, & that will prevent the entire state from certifying their election results. If that happens in each of those states, it goes into the judicial system & eventually to the scotus; & we already know how those 6 will rule.

That’s why they were feeling so overconfident, like they’ve got it in the bag. Sen Warren was on & said this must galvanize us even more to turn out a massive popular vote win.

Yeah, he got just a small taste of his just rewards at the RNC convention when he stepped up to announce KY delegate votes for drumph & the magas booed him so loudly that you could barely hear him speak.

He deserves every ounce of that shame from his own party; vile power hungry creature that he’s been.

Bill Lawrence's avatar

Kamala's star turn addressing the assembled Biden campaign staff was masterful. She's learned a lot in the past four years. I think she'll be a great candidate and will trounce Trump and his terrible running mate in November. Trump may mock her laugh, but laughter is a welcome relief from Trump's litany of hate, grievance and retribution.

Juli's avatar

I hope she laughs at his every inane comment during a debate.

counterlife's avatar

Has anyone heard any excrescence from Trump's mouth that could be called a genuine laugh? He is lacking any decent human qualities, including a sense of humor. I think Harris should laugh at him every chance she gets. it will infuriate him and cause him to make even bigger mistakes.

Megan Ross's avatar

I will never understand those who support TRump. I just can't get my head around it. He is most despicable cretin and the most disgusting human (if he's actually human!) to ever to walk the Earth.

Dee Whitman's avatar

Those who support him are *like* him. Broken. Not necessarily in the same ways or to the same degree, but very broken. I think what has been most shocking for so many of us during these past 9 years is the realization that we've been living among so many mean-spirited, angry, nasty, destructive, spiteful people but didn't know that.

Everyone wears a public mask, but I'd cautiously say that, for those on the left, the gulf between our public self and and private self isn't huge. But now we see how huge the gulf is between the public self and the private self of all those seemingly pleasant coworkers, store clerks, tradespeople, medical professionals, etc. It is shocking and destabilizing.

I think about the ?1978? remake of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" -- the belief that you're among, if not like-minded people, then at least people who aren't dangerous to your survival. Until reality shatters that belief. And so it is in the US, where people on the right want to restrict our rights, screw with our survival (via regressive taxation, opposition to M4A and a livable wage, opposition to unions, opposition to action on the climate catastrophe, etc.) or, in some cases, literally destroy us: "Some people need killing." "We are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be."

Nightmarish, frankly.

Eileen's avatar

My summer of 2016: "I never knew there were so many people [idiots and rage-filled haters] who actually like this guy." I was stunned. Still am. They know we think they are trash, but they wear it as a badge of honor now. Depressing.

P123Sunny's avatar

Teri's avatar

I heard him on tape last night saying "I do not like to be laughed at." Bet Kamala's people know that. 😊

PJ Schuster's avatar

Oh it’s well known that he HATES being laughed at. Remember the Whitehouse Journalist’s dinner & roast? When Obama made jokes about him, he was boiling inside & became an instant & lifelong hater of Obama. James Carville did a video about how to get to him a couple months ago where he said Biden & everyone should make fun of T, laugh at him, because he hates it so much. His ego just can’t take it.

Betsy L's avatar

If VP Harris laughs at him during the debate, he'll have a meltdown. Nobody laughs at Dumpy, especially not a mixed-race woman!

Lisa K. Obrien's avatar

I doubt very much that trump will debate Kamala. She’d crush him.

Megan Ross's avatar

I go back and forth, wondering if he'll back out, but, I think even people in his own party would call him a coward if he did that. I'm hoping he doesn't back out. My popcorn awaits!

PJ Schuster's avatar

Yes, I think many have begun to point that out now that he has started to hate on her laughter. The closest he gets to a smile or a laugh is a sneer.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

Yes, trump has no clue what "Luciferian" means too polysyllabic!

The press wanted the Democrats to fight it out in a new primary up to an including the Convention, and the democrats said FUCK THAT! The press can fuck all the way off with their BS, I can see most democrats pushing back on them HARD! It's going to be fun to watch. As for the GQP, all they have are racist/misogynistic attacks on Kamala Harris. That is SURE to win over women and minority voters. Never interrupt your enemy when they are making a mistake.

Lindsey H's avatar

Exactly. It cannot be repeated enough how horrible the MSM is. So self important. They don’t care how the damage they inflict hits people who support them. Wishing them the karma they deserve.

Dee Whitman's avatar

I worked in newsrooms for most of my career, and I can share some things that most people don't know -- and I'm respectfully asking you to reconsider your negative, inaccurate comments about the MSM.

1. Bashing the MSM helps the right wing bc it supports their "We can't believe any outlet other than Fox" narrative. It supports the erosion of belief in verifiable facts. That's very very very bad for all of us, as the past 7 years have seen (K. Conway 1st used the dangerous phrase "alternative facts"on 1-17-22).

2. The MSM isn't one monolithic entity, so a monolithic criticism isn't useful. Some periodicals and websites are better than others: some have fact-checkers, some don't; some have several layers of editing (which ensures a better-quality article, bc more eyes = more questions asked), some don't; some hire superb writers, some hire people who can barely compose a coherent sentence.

3. As noted, I spent most of my career in newsrooms (a large daily newspaper; one of the nonpartisan Hill publications; a highly regarded US magazine), so I've seen how reporters and editors work. At legit operations, editorial staff don't say, "Let's slant this story in order to get lots of clicks" or "Let's make up stuff." The *vast* majority of those who become journalists are idealists who want to see wrongs righted. When reporters err, they err honestly -- not because they're trying to bring readers around to a certain viewpoint. (Columnists *are* trying to convince others of something, but that's obvious bc they're columnists.)

4. The MSM broke the story of djt's being a tax cheat. It breaks crucial news all the time.

5. Not liking what the MSM says (such as "Many Dem donors, strategists, and pols think that Biden should step down") isn't the same as "The MSM is wrong or is pushing an agenda." That's not how it works. Sources call reporters, or reporters call sources, and the reporter gathers as much info as s/he can, and s/he then writes an article. We (the public) had a right to know this. We've benefited from knowing this. The surge in enthusiasm since Harris was anointed tells us that we might actually be able to beat djt -- which we couldn't have done with Biden at the top of the ticket. (He has been a superb president and will be until he departs, but he cdn't have regained the confidence of the US public -- not with his physical frailty and his inability to speak cogently when asked pressing questions in a debate or interview format. He would've lost, and the stakes are just too high for that to've been the outcome.)

6. The MSM is truly all that protects us from autocracy. For ex., how do you think most people have found out about P2025? Even Substackers or social-media posters who've informed so many of us know about it only bc the MSM reported on it.

No industry or institution is perfect. It can't be. Therefore the MSM isn't perfect. But legit news outlets do far more good than harm, and to bash the MSM is to weaken the only defense we have against tyranny. So I hope you'll stop doing that, and I hope you'll think about all the beneficial things that the MSM does. Thanks.

Megan Ross's avatar

Sorry, but I have to call BS on that. The mainstream media right now is actually doing more harm than good by propping up TRump, and slamming others. It's the small publications, like Mother Jones, Daily Kos etc that are doing what should be done, and that is reporting actual news. After doing a little bit of research, I have found that most of the large newspapers and cable networks are bought and paid for by millionaires and billionaires that definitely lean to the right. Things have changed. Walter Cronkite is spinning in his grave.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

🎯🎯🎯WaPo has hired a Murdoch tabloid criminal to run the show. No way they'll put out any less than right-wing takes, once more moving the Overton Window.

As for the NYT they are in a snit, because the pouty nepo baby Sulzberger that runs it, didn't get a sit-down interview with Biden, and according to Lucien Truscott lv have half of an entire floor devoted to trashing Biden. Not to mention editor Joe Kahn saying he looks forward to trump winning! And them saying defending democracy isn't their job!

Truly protects us from autocracy? You mean like this: https://presswatchers.org/2024/05/new-york-times-editor-joe-kahn-says-defending-democracy-is-a-partisan-act-and-he-wont-do-it/

Or this:

https://css.seas.upenn.edu/new-york-times-a-case-study-in-inconsistent-narrative-selection-and-framing-that-tends-to-favor-republicans/

After the debate only one paper said anything about how trump lied every time he opened his mouth - the Philadelphia Enquirer.

They don't slant the story (much) to get clicks but they DO slant the headlines; for you to say they don't is obtuse at best.

Project 2025 was grossly under reported until very recently, and I would not credit the MSM for getting the word out. I was sharing it far and wide long before the MSM picked it up.

Oh, and we are not bashing the MSM for their facts; we are bashing them for HOW they report their facts. Yes, Biden is old - but how many articles are about how old Biden is vs. how old trump is?

When the MSM gets back to doing more good than harm, I'll consider no longer bashing them.

So excuse me if I fail to shed a single tear for the misunderstood MSM.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

Yes, that is the reality. How it used to be, doesn't matter when they are harming us now.

Susan Niemann's avatar

Key word you're using is "legit". We need a lot more Legit.

Of course not all news outlets are "bad"... but it's apparent that WaPo and the NYT (two immediate examples) both have slanted their headlines. Evidently, reporters of several newspapers got the transcript of Trump's Unity themed acceptance speech and ran with it before he proved them all wrong and spewed hateful, weird garbage at his acceptance speech. The headlines were the complete opposite of what actually happened. And AG Sulzberger came out and told his staff to make Biden look bad because Biden wouldn't sit for an interview. Also, I believe more people than we imagine are getting information from social media....right or wrong, there are many other places to find things out. Just my thoughts.

The fourth estate - otherwise known as journalism - got bought out just like our politicians. Ronald Reagan normalized greed and unfortunately the fourth estate jumped on the bandwagon. Face up to it. The country was ill served by the fourth estate. Since so many journalists are now followers rather than leaders, perhaps they’ll follow the blue wave and start telling the truth again. I sure hope so. We can all use a break from the bullshit.

Cassandra Here's avatar

The Fourth Estate may have lost their bearings; I worry about that. I don’t watch cable because I don’t like to be yelled at. I do subscribe to a lot of print and I read. Sometimes I tsk, tsk, but mostly I read and think.

Robert Eckert's avatar

"Sources call reporters, or reporters call sources, and the reporter gathers as much info as s/he can" on the stories that they choose to cover, while ignoring others. During the weeks when outlets like the Fox News York Times would cover nothing but "Biden old! Everybody wants him out!" I saw nothing at all about Trump being named in the Epstein files, or Trump's obvious cognitive decline.

"how do you think most people have found out about P2025?" Not from any MSM coverage. I have literally never seen any MSM coverage of that subject.

Betsy L's avatar

Well, now, like during the last two weeks, there has been. But you're right. I started reading about the "boot camps" for loyalist hires to replace the fired civil service employees in February or March, and then more and more as time went on. But I also read (past tense) the NYT and WaPo pretty thoroughly every day, and NEVER saw any mention of Project 2025 until the last couple weeks. I dropped my subscription to the NYT last week because of the anti-Biden slantex headlines. I keep WaPo because I like their opinion columnists, especially Jen Rubin. She's talked about all sorts of stuff on her podcast that's never been mentioned by WaPo, which leads me to wonder if she's been barred from writing about it.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

There is a UK tabloid man one of Murdoch's running it now look for more propaganda.Jen Rubin is worth rerading for an ex-republican she's great.

Lee Atwater: "You start out in 1954 by saying, “N--, n---, n---” By 1968 you can’t say “n----”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “N---, n---”

It was CRT, now it's DEI. Same dog whistle.

I guess in 1973 the DOJ had housing applications from African Americans that the Trump family had written 'N' on them, and you know what that means. I imagine Trumpy was a little more careful throwing that word around, but I've heard he threw it around occasionally on 'The Apprentice'. And of course Trumpy and Klan-dad Papa didn't admit any wrongdoing,he instructed Roy Cohn to sue the DOJ for $100 million dollars, and claimed it was a 'political witch hunt'...some things never change, but ironically enough,I believe Trumpy was still a Democrat at the time.

Robert Eckert's avatar

Actually the Trumps wrote "C" for "Colored": not much better, but no they didn't use "N"

Gorka already referred to Harris as "colored" (c. 7-9-24). Not quite as bad, but pretty damn bad. He trotted out a pre-1970s adj. that's now considered highly offensive by every American, and by everyone who knows anything about US history.

(Per wikipedia, which is mostly an unreliable source and which should be avoided BUT which I lazily checked just now: NPR reported that the "use of the phrase 'colored people' peaked in books published in 1970. ...... Footnote specifies: Malesky, Kee [30 March 2014]. "The Journey from 'Colored' to 'Minorities' to 'People of Color'". NPR.org. National Public Radio. Retrieved 5 February 2017.)

I heard that some MAGA talking head did call Harris "colored" today. I thought we got rid of that particular word in the 1960s.....

The IRS called and says they owe you $50,000 and the check's in the mail. Dee Whitman's avatar

I encourage you to temper your hopes / expectations. Remember that about 71m Murkans voted for scum in 2020. There's still a lot of sickness and hatred in this country (in the world, really).

That said, I too hope for some kind of reset such that the US will once again be home to two functional political parties that differ in, say, views on taxation and foreign policy but that both accept verifiable facts; uphold the rule of law; and are guided by civility and by related longstanding norms.

ETA: Some of this hatred arises from the demographic changes in this country, and that will fuel the hatred for, unfortunately, about 25 years. (25 yrs = one generation; children born today are more likely to be tolerant as adults than their grandparents bc they're more likely to go to a diverse school and have diverse friends, and therefore they're less likely to vilify The Others. There will be lots of exceptions among tomorrow's young adults, but generally speaking diversity will become more the norm.)

Deborah Hunter's avatar

You won't be rid of the Trumpsters even if he's beaten or dies. That's 71 million people. They need to be beat election after election until they become social pariahs like the KKK eventually became. The future of this country lies with the younger people, not with us Boomers. We're a strong group in numbers now, but most of us don't have a lot of presidential election cycles left. Average life expectancy of a US female is 78. If you're in your 70's now, you probably have 3-4 more left if you're lucky. But as we go, so do MAGA Boomers too. The younger generation seems to have limited patience with the GOP nonsense and they are must less religious than the Boomers.

Teri's avatar

Problem is that when old turd voters die, they leave behind two generations who are probably just like the dead ones.

bruce somers's avatar

People said Richard Nixon would do irreparable damage to the GOP for decades, but Reagan came along in 1980. But Republicans have abandoned character, and actually even any issues except hatred, racism, bigotry, misogyny and white Christian Nationalism, that has to change.
