Et tu, Jen Psaki? Turned on her Sunday show because I wanted to see advertised guests Neal Katyal and Andrew Weissman. The first forty-five minutes of the show were devoted to the " Is Biden fit to run" topic, at the end of which she questioned why the media doesn't focus on the deficiencies of Trump. Am I missing something here? Is she not part of the media? By the time I got to the last segment to hear Katyal and Weissman I was so steamed about the whole show that I can barely remember what either of them said. A few things concern me.

1. Everyone who lives in the US has the right to trash it. That's part of what makes the US the US. Yes, I wish that dead Adelson and living Adelson were/are decent people rather than pieces of shit, and that they had used and would use their ill-gotten gains to help others, but such is the world and so it has always been -- that pieces of shit exploit others, amass wealth, and buy power that lets them create further misery for others (and more wealth for themselves). We have to band together and fight for laws that keep their wealth-accumulation somewhat in check.

2. Telling someone to go back to where they came from bc they're saying something you don't like -- or even saying something that could harm the democratic foundation of this country -- is very ultra-right-wing. For your own well-being (and for Dem credibility), please don't engage in that.

3. Suggesting that MSNBC staff are essentially Fox staff is the kind of reductive, untrue, and anger-based response that will serve you, and the Dem cause, very badly. Please don't engage in this kind of thinking.

If I've offended you, I apologize profusely -- that's not my intention. Rather, I hear in your post some extremism -- understandable, given how angry and scared we all are, but not at all helpful -- so I'm respectfully asking you to rethink this. Thanks.

Well said. It's very easy, heck, it's unavoidable!, to get madder than hell. Sometimes the best thing to do is cut back on the amount of time watching the 24-hour cable news shows, just take a break - it's just not healthy! They'll still be doing their things a few weeks from now when you tune back in. It's enough to read a couple digital or print sources a day and check out one or two opinion takes from people who've earned your respect (like Jeff here). Getting off the hamster wheel for a little while will let a person come back re-energized and in a better, less stressed mood. The people on TV are getting paid to fill airtime, headline writers are paid to fill pages with content, but we are not required to follow all their endeavors every day they're earning their bread.

Expand full comment
Deborah Hunter's avatar

I reread my posts to you and I don't find anywhere in them that I was telling you how to think, compared you to a right winger or accused you of extremism. I was merely asking what's the point of Dems bashing Biden and you never answered. You didn't offend me, you annoyed me with your judgmental attitude and thinking you know my motives for what I wrote. I'm not a child - I don't need to be told how to think and what to write by you.

As far as Adelson is concerned - I don't care what she says, I sure do care about the millions and millions of dollars that family has poured into right wing candidates to destroy our democracy. Started way before Trump. Criticize the US all you want (we're far from perfect), but make it constructive criticism on how to make the US better, not destroy it. If that's your agenda, then please go back from where you came from. All the money she has is because she married him and he made all his money in the US. When I visited Israel, my guide said that the Israelis didn't like him either (he was alive then). So there's that.

You know you're offending people with what you write, so don't bother to follow it up with an apology. Have a nice day!

Does that mean he is able to carry that forward?

He has held alarmingly few press conferences. His exposures to the public are few and brief. Nobody here is “attacking” Biden. Some of us doubt that he can deliver an effective campaign against Trump.

It is wishful thinking that independents, disaffected Dems, double-haters and younger voters are going to magically come to their senses and vote Joe.

We need them if we will defeat Trump. Biden Zealots are not sufficient to secure reelection.

We are also facing foreign interference and outrageous voter suppression. We need every possible Never Trump vote. I worry that a Parkinsonian-seeming gentleman has what it takes to campaign nonstop to override these challenges.

I think they're in favor of a Dem in the WH on 1-21-25-- and they see that Biden is doing even worse in the polls than he was before the debate.

To be clear, I'm not supporting or excusing what they're doing, but I think their intentions are good. No matter how much we loyalists support him, we CANNOT ignore that he was already a very unpopular president (which is ridiculous, but US voters are under-informed or misinformed) -- and we cannot force others to see reality and vote for Biden rather than scump, or vote for Biden rather than stay home (which is basically a vote for scump).

This is an incredibly scary time, made scarier by the debate having shown that Biden has definitely deteriorated. I'm 100% behind him; I'll vote for him; I'll tell any doubters about all that he has accomplished during his incredibly productive presidency, and that I have faith in his ability to lead just as well for another four years; but I'm not fooling myself about his having become noticeably weaker, less articulate, and less energetic in even the past four years (watch vids of him from the 2020 campaign).

So how does coming out and publicly bashing Biden in the polls, help Biden get elected? Sorry I fail to see the connection. I don't agree that Biden has been very unpopular. He's no Obama, but the nasty stuff you hear about him is coming from the GOP as usual. As far as Biden's age showing, where's the talk about Trump? He's almost the same age, has shown signs of deteriorating the last few years too. It's utterly unrealistic to expect an 80 year old plus person to be the same person they were 10 years ago. I don't feel that Trump voters aren't realistic - they are for the most part, racist or want fascism. It's not an issue of being uninformed. They're in a cult. You don't educate people like that. You keep voting them out until they're a minority that's talked about in hushed tones. Your post is pretty down on Biden. Just my opinion. We already know all of this. This is about a criminal, sociopath who will ruin this country versus a candidate that will not. Period. Doesn't matter how old they are at this point. They sure did cover Ronnie, didn't they? He had it long before we knew publicly that he did. He ought to be glad he wasn't a Dem. Some Dems would have been out there saying that he should step down and let his VP take over. The media also was different then. They covered up JFK's affairs and his Addison's Disease. Never heard a word about any of that back in the day. I'm old enough to remember when so many things/people were kept in the closet. Transparency is a good thing, but it's gone wild today into trash media, lies and ridiculousness. It started with the internet. And got truly toxic with social media., cable "news" and pundits. Years ago, you had 30 minutes of national/world news at dinnertime by non-controversial newscasters. It wasn't opinion news, it was factual news for the most part. How I long for those days.

Ruth should have passed the torch too, and look where we are now with the SC. Same with Feinstein and Grandpa Grassley. I'm not in a position of power, but what is it about power that people just can't seem to let go even when they should be in a nursing home instead? The Dems are just as guilty as the GOP on this issue. That's why there should be NO appointments for life for anything and age limits on candidates and term limits.

If and when the Dems get complete control of the government again, they need to pass age limits for all elected officials and term limits. We wouldn't be having this conversation if we had such laws in place. No only is there worry about dementia in older candidates, their ideas may not be as progressive as they should be. I respectfully, and strongly, disagree. There is zero reason to think that any left-leaning arts people (Reiner, King, etc.) want scump to win. There is no way that they want to live in an autocracy, or that they want to subject others to that -- their work shows that they value humanity. I think it's more accurate to say that they're just as serious and committed as is Jeff, for ex., even though they're taking a different approach.

I implore you not to let your anger lead you into inaccurate black-or-white thinking, or lead you into seeing them as the enemy because they support a different solution than you do. To do so is to play into "Dems in Disarray," and we can't afford that right now. If I've offended you, I apologize -- not my intention. Just hoping you'll see that we're all on the same side -- we want to keep a Dem in the WH -- even as some people have differing views on how to accomplish that.

The GOP goes after it like a dog after a bone. It just gives them more justification to say Biden is too old. Say what you want behind closed doors, but what happened to a unified front about this? That's why I am asking for an explanation because I sure don't understand that logic. I no longer listen to Maher or Moore. I hope that after Biden wins, that we don't forget that they tried to aid the enemy.

Every pony y'all want has already left the field. There is no way to change the ticket at this point, legally, unless OHJB himself decides to step down and announces it (and the RW is already teeing up the lawsuits to prevent anyone else from going on the planned state ballots) or Biden dies. The Ds have to tell Ohio that Biden is the guy at the top of the ticket on August 7th to avoid disaster there. The money legally belongs to the Biden/Harris ticket. The staff and supplies belong to Biden, largely, not Kamala. Giving her less than three months to transition is not enough time. The MSM will go after her even harder in that time. And the VP pick. And it will have to be Kamala, otherwise the war chest loses ALL of its money back to the donors and the newly anointed will have to start from zero just a few months before the election that will end our country if we don't unite in time.

.

Maybe you weren't alive in 1968 or 1972? A Dems in disarray political convention is exactly what the Trump team is hoping for--anything to take the voters' attention off of how terrible Trump is and how horrific Project 2025 is. Anything that will sow doubt and confusion in the minds of voters. Chaos helps the Rs enormously. (Have you printed your copy of Project 2025 yet? Because no one should be surprised if it disappears from the Heritage Foundation's site because of pressure from the Rs, who are trying to run away from it as fast as they can.)

.

Biden isn't going anywhere, and Kamala supports him. Please stop listening to the polls (the only poll that truly matters is on election day), the MSM, and the disingenuous. There will be time to hold the D's feet to the fire after the election. Every time doubt is sown about Biden, Putin gets a tingle in his boxers. Maybe listen to people who aren't white? Put pressure on the pundits to talk about how Trump is unfit to be President and seems to be missing from the campaign trail. Vote BLUE up and down the ballot. DON'T GIVE UP THE SHIP

It's too late to get a younger candidate. That horse already left the gate. Besides, if something happens to Biden, he has a much younger, capable VP in the wings. Kamala isn't 80. So actually, we will really be voting for the VP picks for president since odds are pretty good that neither candidate will be around in 2028. Either mentally or physically unable to do the job or has died. If Dems are so upset about Biden's age, then the first thing they need to do is pass age limits when they get control of Congress. Both parties are guilty of letting this issue go. Reagan's been gone since 1988, plenty of time to pass this law since it's been known for decades that he had Alzheimer's while in office. Perhaps you’ve already seen this VERY RECENT headline?......

“Surprise win for French leftwing alliance keeps far right from power”

That headline proves my point……..about “polls”…….

It is absolutely ridiculous and absurd to place any credence on polls. When you compare the number of people who participated in a poll (for most polls, less than 2,500 people) to the number of registered voters in the United States of America (over 160 million people) the results of a poll, any poll, are total bullshit. Bullshit that no one should be concerned about. Add to that the fact that Democrats were asked not to participate in any polls. Because of that, poll results that show Liar, Fraud, Con, Scumbag, Racist, Sex-Abuser, Traitor, America’s Disgrace, Piece of Shit, Wannabe-Dictator Trump leading President Joseph R. Biden, Jr are nothing but fascist propaganda.

President Biden is, for a second time, going to crush and flush scumbag Trump in the upcoming November election. CRUSH and FLUSH piece-of-shit Trump! Scumbag Trump has zero chance of ever being President again.

MAGAcultists who think that “undecided voters” are going to vote for Scumbag Trump because President Biden stuttered and fumbled through one debate are total fucking idiots. Given a choice between voting for an older person (President Biden) and person who is a fraud, a con, a convicted felon, a traitor, a fascist, a racist, Putin’s puppet and scumbag piece of shit (Fraud Trump), who lies every time he opens his disgusting fucking mouth, “undecided voters” will vote for President Biden.

Classic pattern here. Did everyone see Jasmine Crockett's post?

If Dems found half as much energy to attack MAGA, the real threat, then

we'd be good.

For all the geniuses out there who think someone else would be better,

1) explain to me who it is,

2) how they get on the ballot in all 50 states,

3) how they get the money and apparatus together to get this done in 4

months (the over 100 million Biden has on hand doesn't transfer)

4) how we explain that a random person has been selected... subverting

the votes that were casts, because of bad polls.

Dems spend all their time seeking perfection, while Republicans focus

on their disastrous agenda & could care less so long as they rig the

system in their favor!

USE YOUR ENERGY ADDRESSING PROJECT 2025 & the fact that this

Maybe you're young enough, or lucky enough, not to have watched a parent, aunt, uncle, or grandparent decline -- but as someone who has watched many relatives decline (among them my mother, for whom I was the live-in caregiver), I can tell you that the person in decline does *not* have an accurate sense of their abilities, so Biden's saying that he's good to go is largely meaningless.

To be clear: I support and will vote for Biden in 2024, as I did in 2020. I have 100% faith in his ability to assemble a cabinet that will shore him up when that's needed. But I'm not kidding myself about the obvious signs of deterioration -- you need only watch some vids of him in 2020 to see a very different energy level and an ability to communicate clearly -- and no one else should, either. Keeping our heads in the sand means that we can't quickly come up with a good alternative, should one be needed.

Our goal is to keep a Dem in the WH -- and a lot of Americans think that Biden is impaired and should not be elected. We can't pretend that lot of people believe otherwise! We can't pretend that our staunch faith in him will magically impel them to vote for him. Our solution doesn't have to be "replace him," but whichever solution we choose, it has to be based in *facts*.
