I have never been able to edit comments. Which is a shame because I use speech to text for a lot of my commenting, so I have to be really careful to go back and look before I hit post.
I don't know, it always works for me. I often find typos in my comments after I've sent them, even after someone's commented. I really try hard to proofread, but I'm not always as good as my former employers thought. Although, maybe it's because I'm older.
I have the same problem although I don't use voice. I despise this 'autocorrect' thingie which WINDOWS does on my DESKTOP computer with a 'real keyboard'! My vision isn't great due to TED (thyroid eye disease) and because I haven't been able to get new glasses recently (hubby fractured his femur and is STILL going through therapy and, naturally due to my vision issues I can't currently drive either). SO, while being patient, I'm stuck with having to peer at my screen while attempting to fix the confounded errors which pop up. I'M not on a phone or keyPAD as the guy above imagines all women must be who require chastising or fucking mansplaining and while I AM pissed off by his comment, I'm quite sure most of us are still perfectly CALM, although becoming decidedly annoyed by his supercilious tone.
Ditto Elaine, AI is a painful thing, you still should be able to edit even after someone has commented. I do it frequently after someone has liked, shock and horror forces it!!
AI is terrible, it's often wrong. It can't spell a word, any word, usually used by any college graduate, and is always screwing up. Sigh, I know how you feel in your last sentence...

Are you using a phone? There's your problem right there, honey. If you want to be a real "writer" get a computer with a real keyboard with real keys (not a f'ing "keyPAD".
"Honey?" Maybe you could stop swaggering around, displacedCTYankee. Even if you know something someone else doesn't know, being snotty about it to someone who hasn't been snotty to you doesn't make you look better. It makes you look pathetically desperate to feel superior. Depressing.
I make no claim to being a writer. I use the phone because I'm usually working on my laptop at the same time as I'm browsing substack. I suppose I could go in and hunt up all my comments and edit them on my computer, but considering how hard they make that, it's kind of six of one, half a dozen of the other
As others already tried to point out, it is a piece of cake to edit (or delete) a comment you have posted. When I click on the three vertical dots I get a little window with three choices, and you will, too. Move down inside the window and you will find the hidden EDIT choice. Click on that.
I think you are trying to do too many things at once! Can't you calm down and concentrate on doing one thing at a time and do it right? I am no good at multi-tasking. never have been, so I don't try.
Well, this can't be me, because I've never had a cell phone. I use a laptop, although I really do miss the manual typewriter on which I learned to type. I let my brother have my mother's (1940s) and I have a 60s electric, but I don't use it.
Jeff: a question, could it be IF one is a paid subscriber or not? I'm not on every other substack I follow and cannot edit once I've posted. Here, I can (just finding out, in fact).
If you're using a phone, that might well be the problem. Since I'm an editor and writer, my laptop is usually in my lap, and that's how I do my Substacking.
It doesn't show edit as an option for me. Only hide or delete or report.
I think that once people reply to a comment, the ability to edit it disappears

I AM trying to be helpful.
I do not own a "smartphone" or a "tablet."
OMG - you also used the 'calm down'? Really? TO a woman? GTFOOH with that chauvinistic bullshit.
She said she was using a desktop computer, honey.

It's good to know that option exists. Like I said, I usually use substack from my phone. I appreciate the information, however.
IтАЩm always using my phone on Substack, tiny keyboard verses big fingers can be a problem Elaine!!
