one year ago this week were visiting Big Bend National Park in Texas. the photo above is one I took of the sunrise as seen from the house we rented in the town of Terlingua. the Google Photos app on my phone loves to send me “memories,” so all week long I’ve been seeing constant reminders of the great time we had.
anyway, here are some random things that have been clogging my brain this week, and now they get to clog yours. you’re welcome.
did you know that Margaret Atwood draws comics? I didn’t either, but this week I learned that she has a substack and yes, she does.
speaking of authors, here’s a book recommendation: Memoirs of a Space Traveler by Stanislaw Lem.
it’s science fiction (I’m a fan of the genre) but it’s also clever, literate, witty, satirical and at times laugh-out-loud funny.
here’s a cool video. it’s Carl Orff’s Gassenhauer, performed by Michael Barranco, Anjni Amin, Collin Bevan, Nicholas Cavin, Meghan Gillen, Ryan Joeckel, Christopher Scheer, and Christopher Weatherly of the The College of Saint Rose in 2015.
fans of the 1973 movie Badlands will recognize it as its main theme. it’s a fucking earworm.
hey, Forbes called me Donald Trump’s “most dedicatated hater.” so I got that going for me, which is nice.
and finally, thank you to everyone who donated to Smirking Chimp during our Spring fund drive. you folks are awesome, and I now have a lot of thank-you emails to write.
well, that’s it for me on a Sunday morning. what are you all up to?
me: "I don't have anything to write about today"
wife: "sometimes Heather Cox Richardson just posts a photo"
me: "hmm"
Just had brunch with my oldest brother and his daughter and granddaughter and the granddaughter's squeeze. Yesterday my brother and I spent the morning on the sidewalk at the local Planned Parenthood, verbally abusing and drowning out womb sniffers who come to yell at patients on Saturday mornings. ❤️
