I remember the first anti-war protest in Berkeley, October 14, 1965. Stretched from the University down Telegraph Avenue all the way to the Smokehouse at the Berkeley Oakland line, where the Hells Angels, accompanied by the Oakland Police (see, I'm not calling them pigs) where various leaders convened and decided to turn us west down to Civic Center Park across from Berkeley High (my high school). That's where I saw my first FBI agents (you could tell by the shoes) and ingloriously, my father showed up to drag (not quite) me home. But I went to the march down through Oakland the next day.

Edited. Well, I've skipped all the demonstrations so far (except for NYC most recently, they did not meet my definition of demonstration), but the Working Families Party is holding a rally at Bancroft and Telegraph from 10-2 on May 1. This is the traditional starting place for rallies/marches in Berkeley, and I am going, waiting to see if any other old people mistakenly lurch onto Bancroft Avenue......... I will be dressed appropriately, which means no tank top and heavy shoes and jeans.
