And while supporting immigration enforcement, he said those deaths should be thoroughly investigated.

I'm a native Seattlelite and I honestly don't remember seeing much bigotry, racism or religious persecution growing up in the 60s and 70s. My grade school was one of the first in the nation, in 1968, to bus kids in from the Central District, a predominantly black school district, to West Seattle, where I lived. We didn't care what color these kids were! We were just happy to have new kids to play with at school. I live in Southern California now, near Palm Springs, where we are also a 6very welcoming community, but Seattle will always be home. Best to you.

All ‘religions’ are as goofy as can be, when I was about 8 yrs old I was thinking ‘what in the fuck are they telling me! The same thing happened to me. I think I was 7, getting ready for my 1st communion and having a panic attack because my "teachers" kept telling me that I was going to hell if I didn't do what they said to do. A voice came to me and said "They are lying to you. None of that is going to happen. Don't believe what they say." From that point on, I went through the motions but did not absorb one more thing they said (including my very Catholic family). In my early 20's, I also thought Buddhism was the one that didn't seem to do harm to anyone the way the others did. But that also was short-lived.
Catholics had it the worst no question. My wife when a little girl (planning on being a nun) was told to go to ‘confession’ she did and the mostly dead geezer behind the curtain said “You already have one foot in hell”. What the fuck!

My mother was a secular Jew, my father abandoned the Greek Orthodox Church when he came to this country as a teenager and became an atheist, and they sent us to a Unitarian Church which was more like a peace, civil rights and social action group than a church (Dr. King spoke at our church. My Sunday school classmate was the daughter of a legendary community activist who mentored the young Barack Obama.) "Guilt" was not in our vocabulary. "Do something to help someone less fortunate" was.
I thank my stars for not having to grow up in a religious family. All my relatives were main stream Protestant (family is from England in the 1800's) and I went to church as a child. But looking back, we were not really religious. Going to church was just something you did in a small Midwestern town. When I was 12, we moved to upstate NY- almost all Catholic. And that was when the Church told you what books and movies you could watch. Birth control pills weren't around yet and no meat on Friday. Huge difference from what I saw as a child versus a teenager. I have no religious hangups from my childhood or guilt because I was not one of the flock.
Yes, that’s very good that your community did not force you to conform & obey. My Catholic family was actually quite liberal in comparison to others I have heard of. Growing up in very liberal Chicago/Evanston meant there were lots of opportunities to expand my horizons. And I refused to be part of it so I was labeled “the weirdo” and left alone. It did mean a lot of time to myself and by myself, but it was better than the alternative.

My mother pulled my brother and I out of Catholic school when she found out the priests were telling the assembled pre-schoolers that all children were born sinners,and all the unbaptized would be banished to hell for all eternity, she completely understood when I refused to do my confirmation when I was 13.
My youngest thanked me for not baptizing him and making him go to church. His father and I saw no point in it. We didnt go as adults and never believed you go to hell if you weren't baptized.

I'm a native Seattlelite and I honestly don't remember seeing much bigotry, racism or religious persecution growing up in the 60s and 70s. My grade school was one of the first in the nation, in 1968, to bus kids in from the Central District, a predominantly black school district, to West Seattle, where I lived. We didn't care what color these kids were! We were just happy to have new kids to play with at school. I live in Southern California now, near Palm Springs, where we are also a 6very welcoming community, but Seattle will always be home. Best to you.

When I could really read I’d go to the library and look all of it up eventually I thought Buddhism was the sensible one. Christianity you can have it comes in many ridiculous flavors.
The same thing happened to me. I think I was 7, getting ready for my 1st communion and having a panic attack because my "teachers" kept telling me that I was going to hell if I didn't do what they said to do. A voice came to me and said "They are lying to you. None of that is going to happen. Don't believe what they say." From that point on, I went through the motions but did not absorb one more thing they said (including my very Catholic family). In my early 20's, I also thought Buddhism was the one that didn't seem to do harm to anyone the way the others did. But that also was short-lived.
Catholics had it the worst no question. My wife when a little girl (planning on being a nun) was told to go to ‘confession’ she did and the mostly dead geezer behind the curtain said “You already have one foot in hell”. What the fuck!

Good grief. So glad I never set foot in a Catholic Church until I was out of college. My mother was a secular Jew, my father abandoned the Greek Orthodox Church when he came to this country as a teenager and became an atheist, and they sent us to a Unitarian Church which was more like a peace, civil rights and social action group than a church (Dr. King spoke at our church. My Sunday school classmate was the daughter of a legendary community activist who mentored the young Barack Obama.) "Guilt" was not in our vocabulary. "Do something to help someone less fortunate" was.
I thank my stars for not having to grow up in a religious family. All my relatives were main stream Protestant (family is from England in the 1800's) and I went to church as a child. But looking back, we were not really religious. Going to church was just something you did in a small Midwestern town. When I was 12, we moved to upstate NY- almost all Catholic. And that was when the Church told you what books and movies you could watch. Birth control pills weren't around yet and no meat on Friday. Huge difference from what I saw as a child versus a teenager. I have no religious hangups from my childhood or guilt because I was not one of the flock.
Yes, that’s very good that your community did not force you to conform & obey. My Catholic family was actually quite liberal in comparison to others I have heard of. Growing up in very liberal Chicago/Evanston meant there were lots of opportunities to expand my horizons. And I refused to be part of it so I was labeled “the weirdo” and left alone. It did mean a lot of time to myself and by myself, but it was better than the alternative.

Being a licensed physical therapist, and not a medical doctor, one would think he wouldn't be perfectly qualified to comment on this. However, from his experience with countless patients over the years, and everything that he's learned, I think he actually is perfectly qualified. I sense he feels a responsibility to call bullshit when he sees it, and a lot of medical doctors might feel hesitant to do that.
Will: My sister is a doctoral level physical therapist. I ran this by her. I value alternative methods other than medical as for example the Chinese have been practicing their craft for centuries much longer than western medicine.
