Schutzstaffel. Means "protection squad", because in the beginning they were a protection squad for Hitler, and evolved into the group planning, organizing and carrying out the murder of Jews and other groups in Germany. Those in the military who follow his illegal orders are acting like the Schutzstaffel did.

Yes it is. It is unbelievable. I said two years ago that Trump was reminding me of Hitler. Some German immigrant man chided me for this saying I was trivializing what Hitler did. I am a history major and I was just pointing out the ways he sounded and acted like Hitler before he came to power. I am a Brown-skinned German and American and am not trivializing anything. I am glad people are waking up to this, but are they waking up to the full horror of what Trump is saying and doing? It seems not.

I noticed that Claudia's post had not ONE single 'fuck' in it - so it IS you, not her. She's genteel, a lady. I guess I've entirely lost MY former 'genteelness'. She DID manage to get in a ' Golf Force One' which was fucking funny, AND a diatribe about that weaselly little nazi worm miller, whose evilness goes back to his middle school days if not before), so there's that. YOU managed to get in yet another one of Nazi-gestapo wanna-be piss-drunk thug petey smacking himself in the nuts once again. Ahhhh Karma, she's a lovely thing. To add to our 2000 words, we can add those WE hear in our heads; little marco screaming: 'shut up you old nasty racist fuck'! AND wake the fuck UP since SOME of us are actually trying desperately to work here - while YOU care only about your ludicrous and STUPID self!' In a room full of imbeciles, it must be tough being the only semi-literate one who hung his hat with the wrong bunch. Jack Smith HAS to come back to try these fuckers at The Hague- would only be justice., and he so deserves that so-righteous opportunity. BY the way - if anyone here's a devoted coffee drinker, might also care about (or love) dogs, then you gotta watch a video - or two, of up-to-date Rocky Kanaka on YouTube. He and his wife are building what they call Flip Farms (was Flip's Farm before they moved from Los Angeles to Oceanside...named for his soul dog who's passed) to this lovely 50 acres they're creating a COFFEE-GROWING FARM and dog rescue place. HE's been 'sitting with dogs' for years and they bake special (and great) treats for dogs in their own home - but now they're expanding to save more dogs. They couldn't fight the requirements in LA so when this property became available they went for it. Buying their coffee (not cheap), and other merchandise helps. EVERY PENNY helps. One can volunteer - and at some point they'll even have a cafe and even a hotel. Ok - I'm done. He's a super nice guy who loves dogs: google 'Rocky Kanaka, sitting with dogs' and look at the latest date possible. Even IF you're not a real coffee drinkers (I'm a tea drinker), it'll; do something to ya, make your heart warm to start off the day.

Expand full comment
serenity's avatar

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about him for president. He is definitely the man for the moment and what we need right now. If he is the choice to run, I'd vote for him. My fear is that any democrat is going to run on the "not trump" platform. We need someone to get out there and meet with people in red states and rural areas to talk about the kitchen table issues. A platform with a doable plan. To distinguish from the republicans whose platform is to destroy everything but no plan to rebuild what they've broken.

Expand full comment
Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

No, we do not need that. That is exactly how we lost here in Ohio, groveling to "rural" voters and focusing only on "Kitchen table" issues while pretending that their MAGA crap was invisible. We need someone who can create over-the-top enthusiasm in BLUE and SWING states, and we need to stop fantasizing that if we just talk about "kitchen table" issues somehow mysteriously people will gravitate toward us. That doesn't happen; people can convince themselves that people who don't have their interests at heart actually do.

Right now, we're winning bigly on the "not Trump" platform because frankly, that's what people want. And if things continue like they are, they're going to want it 100 times more in three years.

Expand full comment
serenity's avatar

That's a good perspective. I'm in Chicago so don't have experience with rural voters but I agree that MAGA will not gravitate towards reality regardless of how it's spun. I was thinking more about people on the fence. If people run on 'not trump" we will still need a platform, plan and messaging so that we don't win elections and then lose the next cycle to the same bad actors.

Expand full comment
ezriel kornel's avatar

The federal government can't decree all businesses shut down. They can only shut down federal offices.

This is a singularly bad idea — what I call a "sound good" that's actually bad — unless welded irrevocably to copious early voting opportunities, including guaranteed universal vote by mail and expanded in-person early voting including non-business hours.

Why? Since government workers and probably schools would be closed, but low-wage workers at places such as fast food restaurants would likely be forced to work and single parents would be scrambling for childcare, voting would be low priority for them. A federal holiday would primarily benefit more upper-income and middle-class voters who have more lenient workplaces. Big NO until Republicans stop trying to abolish things like vote by mail.

What counties would those be? Look: I understand we are disappointed and disbelieving in the results and have to comfort ourselves by telling ourselves fairy tales. But that's a very MAGA thing to do. On the level of actual voting, it was a fair and honest election. There's never been evidence of fraud in voting level that would have made a difference. And as I keep saying, the more we feed ourselves this wishful thinking, the more we're distracted from how we ACTUALLY lost: the social media propaganda (much of it foreign), the compliant rightwing ass-kissing of the so-called "mainstream" media that gives us massively unbalanced coverage (just think about how the media would've covered a Biden screed about Somalis—not with this delicacy) and the "enemy within" — those on the far left and the so-called "pro-Palestinians" who sat out to "teach Democrats a lesson."

If you read This Will Stand he shows all of the statistical anomalies. There was one county that declared all their ballots compromised and recopied them by hand. No, there was some very questionable stuff. Even Drumpf said that Musk fixed things for him. Not a fairy tale.

No, there was not "questionable stuff" at the actual voting level. One of the issues is that there are things that at first glance may appear anomalous, but all end up having rational explanations. But often these elections zealots only see the initial anomaly and not the followup explanation. I've seen this happen more times than I can count.

What's wrong with this pathologically stupid country that this is even a possibility? I mean, seriously.
