Always, sorrow stalks us elders. The mists of time and illness cloud our partners and eventually, take our partners to a land where we cannot follow, no matter how much we long for the comfort of that particularly beloved person and our former relationship with them.
I am losing my husband now. He has Parksinon's. I am currently organizing his nursing home room in an excellent facility. His dementia is too far gone to live outside an institution at this time.

I'm sorry that you're going through this. I went through the same thing with my mother, Parkinson's Disease with the associated dementia. When she passed in 2016 I had already mourned her loss for several years. I put my mother in a group home because my rat bastard brother was her fiduciary and medical POA and he stopped paying on her long term care policy, ran up her credit cards and caused an 86 year old lady with dementia to be evicted from her assisted living facility. But I spent time decorating her room with pictures of her siblings, parents and landscapes she liked. My siblings nowhere to be found.

Honestly, Jeff: I know you are grieving Claudia's death, but I want to thank you for showing us photos of Real Claudia in her real life, during her elder years. I am so sorry for your loss, but very grateful for your truth-telling, via photos from your treasured home life.
Our culture often wants older women to hide our wrinkles and white hair instead of celebrating our elder years. But there is joy in being an elder. Optimally, there's satisfaction at a life well-led.
Always, sorrow stalks us elders. The mists of time and illness cloud our partners and eventually, take our partners to a land where we cannot follow, no matter how much we long for the comfort of that particularly beloved person and our former relationship with them.
I am losing my husband now. He has Parksinon's. I am currently organizing his nursing home room in an excellent facility. His dementia is too far gone to live outside an institution at this time.

I'm sorry that you're going through this. I went through the same thing with my mother, Parkinson's Disease with the associated dementia. When she passed in 2016 I had already mourned her loss for several years. I put my mother in a group home because my rat bastard brother was her fiduciary and medical POA and he stopped paying on her long term care policy, ran up her credit cards and caused an 86 year old lady with dementia to be evicted from her assisted living facility. But I spent time decorating her room with pictures of her siblings, parents and landscapes she liked. My siblings nowhere to be found.
