folks, welcome to the longest piece I've ever written.

me: "should I cut out the part about the phone?"

ms. spouse: "no, it's good."

me: "yeah but this piece is over two thousand words. that's too long."

ms. spouse: "it's not too long. if people get tired, they'll just stop reading."

me: "oh, that's reassuring."

Kathleen Weber's avatar

Jeff, you are a top news source. I almost always read something in your post that I haven't seen anywhere else. We need to keep our eyes on the snake!

Susan Niemann's avatar

Nah.... it was spot on. Every word. 👏👏👏👏

Dave Drell's avatar

Jeff could write 5,000 words and we would eat it up!

Grace Kennedy's avatar

I thought it was too short🤣🤣

Jimmy Naye's avatar

Jeff, you nail it everyday but today was outstanding!

longtimebirdwatcher's avatar

Honestly, your columns are always too short.

Phil Burns's avatar

I read the whole damn thing and enjoyed it!!!

DonP's avatar

Jeff, you could write a 10,000 word essay and I'd read it. Gotta admit, "Squeaky McTanktread" made me laugh out loud. And apparently, from what I've observed so far, no-one in the Dumpf administration knows what anyone else is doing, and most of them don't even know what THEY'RE doing from moment to moment.

Dumpf seems to have the attention span of a gnat, or he's simply not being informed of what his own press "secretary" is telling the world about why he's leaving the G7.

Doc Blase''s avatar

Squeaky McTanktread= instant classic. On the mantle with Agolf Shitler.

This post isn't too long. It's a healthy high-protein snack. Also laughter-inducing, and therefore medically necessary.

🤣🤣🤣 Ms. Spouse, as always, is both correct and amazing. And so was this column, Jeff. Pure gold from beginning to end. The GIF of Macron and Meloni alone was worth the price of admission.

SethTriggs's avatar

I'll never get tired of this because it gives voice to so many things I feel. Thanks for writing it.

It's one of the things that's the balm against how Murc's Law allows this creature to shamble about without accountability.

Walt Svirsky's avatar

I checked my Rump watch and it only took me 10 minutes to consume every tasty bit, Jeff. Or is that 12 minutes…having trouble reading the dial.

Kristy Kanen's avatar

That Rump watch is NEVER right not even TWICE a day.

Walt Svirsky's avatar

I know, Kristy, but it’s GOLD!

The little hand is on the 2, and the other little hand is on the 2. And nobody’s satisfied

Richard Von Busack's avatar

Nonsense, it read like a breeze. I was told once by an editor that editing my article only made it longer--my feeling is that it was like a nicely packed in watch and that once they took the cover off and started tinkering, the springs flew every which way. One of the reasons I retired...but what I mean is that this piece has a lot of space in it because you didn't have to boil down Emperor Stupid's pronouncements and just got a lot of the hideo-comedy of his Canadian trip in there, with photos illustrating the awfulness of it all.

Lisa's avatar

Mrs. Spouse is right! Sometimes, when I’m done reading, I click my heels together saying “I wish there was more. I wish there was more”.

Norma's avatar

lol. Ms Spouse is the best!

arne link's avatar

I know, right? Jeff is the only writer who keeps me sane during this horrible national nightmare. I'm so afraid that Kegsbreath is going to start throwing nukes. These people are insane.

Carthago Delenda Est's avatar

Rumor has it (maybe I started it, who knows?) that Orange is blaming Kegbreath for the dismal showing on June 14th. Poor attendance, poor formations by the troops (malicious compliance?) etc. Maybe the Secretary of DUI will finally be forced to resign. Or at least have his paws slapped.

Liza Lundell's avatar

I always enjoy every word you post. But, you might want to stop counting embarrassment in days, and go to hours. Maybe minutes.

Kathleen Weber's avatar

With a spouse like that who needs enemies? 🤷🏼🤷🏼🤷🏼🤷🏼

MattSMaine's avatar

Happily renewing my subscription. You are the gift that keeps on giving. Take a day or 2 off, though! We need you for the long haul!

Susan Niemann's avatar

"let’s give the irrepressible scamp half a gold star. good boy, Donny!" 😂😂

I wish Mark Carney could be our guy. He's tremendous. Insiders have said the felons team is in panic mode and I believe it. They also said the felon indeed does have an odor. And its beyond obvious he's mentally losing it.

I want Vance to get off the couch and get ready to take over...because maybe the cult will begin to dissolve without their dear leader.

Damn, America. Get your shit together. Beyond embarrassing.

Susan Kemp's avatar

We have to be careful about what we wish for. I agree that trump should be impeached and thrown out of office, but would Vance be any better for us? I have very mixed feelings about that. Even if we could also get rid of Vance, we’d end up with Mike Johnson taking over! If it were after a blue wave midterm I wouldn’t want a President Hakeem Jeffries either. Now a President Jasmine Crockett I could get behind!

Leslie Goodman-Malamuth's avatar

Rizz-free JD Vance can do the bidding of Peter Thiel and Russell Vought, but he cannot enchant and lead a cult. MAGA dies with Donny.

Susan Niemann's avatar

I think you're right. Every cult needs a leader to follow. With the felon gone, I think the cult evaporates.

Denise Donaldson's avatar

Yep, the orange cult would likely evaporate. But....perhaps that wouldn’t matter, given Thiel's capacity to purchase power. Not as great as Muck's, but still considerable. And doubtless Muck would see the advantage of joining with Thiel. All the ones who are bought now would stay bought, and Thiel and Vought would be ingenious about wielding even more behind-the-scenes influence with Lardo out of the way. JD would not only obey, he'd be falling all over himself to carry out their wishes. If the cultists saw JD still hating the same people they hate, they might not adore him, but chances are they wouldn't oppose him. And orange voters are only about one-third of the population, anyway.

Denise Donaldson's avatar

But doing Thiel's and Vought's bidding could be very bad indeed. Their plans, executed by someone who’s not [yet] insane....scary.

meryl selig's avatar

Maybe you are right Denise… but Vance does not have imbeciles, incompetents and loyal sycophants who will slavishly follow. Maybe the Oli-Money from his Silicon Valley underwriters will buoy Vance through his next phase…. But he is not The Donald. He doesn’t have Goebbels-Miller. He has two left feet, communications-wise. He can’t learn to be engaging. His wife has worked mightily on his makeover but you can’t overcome bad genes

Denise Donaldson's avatar

You're right about the lack of imbeciles, meryl, but is that a good thing? If JD didn't keep the blob's Cabinet, Thiel could buy a whole crew of expert propagandists and fixers to do his bidding. Imagine if Kegstand, Ice Barbie, and Blondie, and the rest were equally dedicated, but additionally, intelligent about implementing Project 2025. Thiel's money could buy a LOT of loyalty, despite JD's being such an unlikeable doofus.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Oh but Vance doesn't lack imbeciles -- they're lined up in Congress and Wall St. to install him in the White House. My wild bet is that the passage of the Big Ugly Bill is the real trigger, giving the Project 2025 gang of oligarchs exactly what they want and need before the Nov. 2026 midterms. Putting Trump on permanent medical leave and enthroning Vance as their proxy will make the 2026 Democratic campaigning irrelevant.

Leslie Goodman-Malamuth's avatar

Awful, I agree. I’m hoping for a 2026 end of the regime.

Denise Donaldson's avatar

Standard caveat: assuming there are 2026 elections.

Leslie Goodman-Malamuth's avatar

Assuming we still have a country in 2026. If not, we also lose our deposit on that Key West snowbird rental.

Susan Kemp's avatar

True. I have trouble imagining how anyone could like him, let alone worship him.

meryl selig's avatar

JD is disliked in every quarter except Peter Thiel-Land. And you all are right: he has negative charisma and could never galvanize or mesmerize anyone for any reason. He is a puppet and power-sniffer. Also terminally insecure and will never fully align his shitty upbringing with what he wants to portray.

Please read George Packer’s profile of Vance in the latest Atlantic.

rlritt's avatar

Thats why Trump picked him. No competition for center stage.

Denise Donaldson's avatar

His puppet-ness is the key, though, meryl. He'd be a willing placeholder for Thiel and Vought to wreak all the damage they want. IOW, complete the implementation of Project 2025. No stumbles, no distractions, no chickening out. No pathological narcissist to placate. In the end, maybe even worse than tRump, as high a bar as that is.

Liz and Max the No. 1 Cat's avatar

JD has all the charm of a dead cactus. Or as a copier repairman I once knew said about another of his clients, "He has the personality of a sponge".

Lady Emsworth's avatar

Susan Niemann's avatar

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Excellent! HA!

Bonnie Boyce's avatar

That’s the thing. And Vance is nowhere near as embarrassing.

Denise Donaldson's avatar

Oh, I can't agree about Vance being less embarrassing. Just differently embarrassing.

Liz and Max the No. 1 Cat's avatar

He is when he tries to tell a joke. He and the Space Nazi can't tell jokes to save their lives. They're just cringe.

Betsy L's avatar

The other thing is that while the No Kings protested just pissed Dumpy off, I think they scared Justa Dick. If he were to take over, I think he'd proceed more cautiously. Maybe?

Leslie Goodman-Malamuth's avatar

Rizz-free JD Vance can do the bidding of Peter Thiel and Russell Vought, but he cannot enchant and lead a cult. MAGA dies with Donny, but its hatred and cruelty has infected millions.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Why would he have to proceed cautiously? SCOTUS would back his every wet dream because absolute presidential immunity would still apply. His demonstrated misogyny would seal the loyalty of domestic terrorist groups. And MSM would sane-wash the shit out of him as a savvy high-tech boy and product of Yale.

Betsy L's avatar

Well, okay. I was trying for some optimism, but you're right.

Gail Dragoo's avatar

That’s right and there are a lot of Republicans who can’t stand Vance. He’s got that ick factor! I can see he and Peter Miller killing each other.

Cat Cafe's avatar

Yes. Exactly this. Only the Orange Oaf seems to have the bizarre and inexplicable cult rizz, I will never understand why, but it's there and no one else has it. I'm hoping for more Stephen Miller front and center. Let MAGA see what they exactly voted for, the assholes

James Starr's avatar

And would the presidential immunity debacle transfer over to the VP who gets sworn in as POTUS? Im assuming yes, but it could be challenged.

Deborah Hunter's avatar

Absolutely not. Did you not learn anything from the 2016 and 2024 disaster? I would love that ticket, but you think that running a black woman with a Jewish VP is a winning ticket at this time? You want to run the whitest Protestant Midwest guy you can find. Both those candidates would be excellent in a different time. Do you want to win the presidency back or lose again because you wanted to be inclusive. The MAGAs need to go and if it means the Dems run Big Foot to win so be it.

rlritt's avatar

Andy Bashear, Governor of KY

Steve in SoCal's avatar

Dems have a serious messaging problem. They need to stop bringing cupcakes to the gunfight. Kumbaya nonsense like "Let’s restore the soul of the nation" doesn't cut it. They need to run candidates who know how to be a-holes when required. The paint job and supernatural belief system are secondary.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Big Foot? Are we doing John Fetterman again?

Deborah Hunter's avatar

What a disappointment he's turned out to be. I even sent him a little donation when he ran and I don't live in PA. Is it result of his stroke/depression or was he never the candidate we thought him to be. I think PA needs to primary him and run a different Dem next time.

Catherine's avatar

How about Murphy/AOC? That idea always tickles my fancy-best of everything!

Deborah Hunter's avatar

Also, both are from the liberal NE. Won’t work in a general election. You have to think of appeal across America. Just can’t be only who we like or someone who only represents one part of the country.

Deborah Hunter's avatar

No, about AOC. She appeals to a certain group, but she is also very disliked by others. And once again, stop running women on the next presidential ticket. I personally don't care which gender is president. I don't want another controversial candidate on our ticket. The MAGAs won't like anyone we run, but certain candidates just get hammered about stupid stuff the whole campaign. Just because a candidate is a woman doesn't mean that she's the woman for us. Would you like to have MTG, Boebert, Marsha running the country? No. From watching other countries that have been progressive enough to already have had women leaders, I don't think it makes much difference. Once women get to the top in the dirty world of politics, gender seems to take a backseat as far as policies etc.

Dave Drell's avatar

I’m in agreement with Hunter here- and we need Pritzger in Illinois - not trying to clean up the mess this clown leaves the country in!

Bonnie Boyce's avatar

Is Crockett old enough? She has more intelligence and youthful energy than the entire Republican Party

Steve in SoCal's avatar

She's 44. And if not President, I'd like to see her as an associate Supreme Court justice.

Fun fact: SCOTUS justices don't need to be judges, or even have a law degree

Mary Hall's avatar

Additional fun fact: The Speaker of the House doesn't need to be in Congress.

Steve in SoCal's avatar

Or have a functioning brain, apparently

Denise Donaldson's avatar

Yeah, but Bonnie, a rock has more intelligence and youthful energy....

Deborah Hunter's avatar

A black woman. Not for 2028. That would be a disaster and I think she's fabulous. There will be a place for her, just not now.

Rick A.'s avatar

I am all in on Crockett and yes even AOC. Somebody needs to fight for us. Call these lunatics out—do so loudly and often and shame them and their people for the cruelty insanity and yes LIES.

I am in the red desert of Texas. I would like to call everyone’s attention to a young state rep from Austin named James Talarico. Praying he runs for senator or governor soon. He is the real deal, and articulates the sickness and evil of Christian Nationalism, the billionaire oil oligarchs literally RUNNING Texas right now and so much more. He says what I believe and would say if I was young, energetic, fearless and articulate.

We need a miracle from somewhere. When a sitting United States Senator Mike Lee lies gleefully and in effect cheers the assassinations of elected officials, we are at rock bottom as a culture and a country. But I fear the bottom is still lower for these cretins. I never thought I would see this depravity in the US. Fox and Trump have unleashed the cruel millions now gladly drinking their vile koolaid.

Thanks, Jeff as always. NEVER too many words for us.

Steve in SoCal's avatar

Austin, a sane blue oasis in a red ocean of utter lunacy (but pretty good BBQ tho)

rlritt's avatar

Pritzker / Crockett. Pritzker is a governor with more experience (and loads of money) However, regardless of how you or I feel, they both, unfortunately, have negatives for universal appeal Pritzker is Jewish and Crockett is Black. There is still too much prejudice in America. They would lose a small but important segment of the population.

Deborah Hunter's avatar

Crockett's main drawback isn't that she's black, it's that she's a woman. We have already elected a black president, but he was a male. How many votes were cast for Trump by black males, young white males, and minority males, particularly Latinos? Don't discount the misogyny issue. It was not just about race. Harris was put in a tight spot and I feel she ran a great campaign. But I also believe that a white male would have beaten Trump again in 2024. Dems don't read the room. America voted for a black male president, but rejected 2 very qualified females of 2 different races. I think the Illinois and PA govs would make excellent candidates. But if antisemitism is increasing in this country right now, this would be like pouring gasoline on a fire. Is it fair or right? Absolutely not. But if the Dems can't find a way to get back in power, then they can't pass or enforce laws to protect the vulnerable. We have to find a candidate that can beat a MAGA candidate. It has to be someone who can appeal to middle America. America is just not the east and west coasts which are already Democratic.

rlritt's avatar

You are 100% correct. They're are too many people Hispanic, Black and even White men who won't vote for a women. And it's not just race it's being female. At this time, in this country.

One thing that resonated with Biden to Trump voters was DEI. There is the (incorrect) perception that DEI means favoring race and sex over competence.. Its BS of course, but the country isn't there yet.

meryl selig's avatar

Crockett and Pritzker (in reverse order) would be a dream ticket

Deborah Hunter's avatar

To the Dems, but would lost the general election. We need a candidate where the GOP can not focus on age, sex, race or religion. I love Mayor Pete, but don't think he'd do well in the general election either.

Kristy Kanen's avatar

Get rid of Taco , then deal with the TAQUITO.

Robin D's avatar

Totally agree about not wishing too hard. NO. Vance cannot be left. He is with Elon, and Peter Thiel and Curtis Yarvin and "Dark Enlightenment" and Flat-earther bible-thumping Johnson have to go. Cannot leave them.

rlritt's avatar

Vance would not be as dangerous because no one likes him. He has no following so the other Republicans would have no trouble standing up to him. I like Andy Bashear (Gov KY) as Democratic candidate. He is smart and electable. He would easily win some red states and all the swing states.

Bill Corbett's avatar

We can't be careful, because whatever happens, is going to happen. What we need to do is be prepared for this eventual event and his position as President taken from him and the absolute lunacy of how that goes down. Jeff's comment of "no one knows what anyone is doing" is what scares the hell out of me. As Joyce Vance says, "we're all in this together".

Denise Donaldson's avatar

YES!!!! on Jasmine Crockett.

Terri Nighswonger's avatar

Jasmine Crockett for President!!! She is smart, energetic, and names the fault in those who are ripping us off.

She would not have sat quiet during the many travesties we have endured.

I am so done with all those who told us to be good little boys and girls.

WE NEED ACTION AND WE NEED IT NOW!!!! 🇺🇸🥳

Sooz Hall's avatar

Save us from Vance. Or Jesus Johnson. Jeffries at least has a grip on reality. And doesn’t have a jones for cruelty. And wouldn’t be a public embarrassment.

Susan Kemp's avatar

All true, but I don’t think he has what it takes to be president.

KP Johnson Austin, TX's avatar

Vance is smarter. is that good or bad?

Carthago Delenda Est's avatar

That's not how the line of succession works. Should a miracle happen and Orange goes away and Couchfuck McGee succeeds him, a new VP would have to be appointed and confirmed by both houses of Congress, per the 25th Amendment. The Speaker doesn't just magically ascend to the office of VP.

ignorance and inhumanity.

Hell he’s not even in the same planet!

Hell, not even the same galaxy!!!

Joe Witkowski's avatar

Dumbya was and still remains pretty fucking stupid. For starting a war under false pretenses, the name *Bush* as in *Bush league* will always be a four-letter moniker of shame and stupidity.

Denise Donaldson's avatar

I always refer to him as "Shrub," because he isn't even enough of a person to qualify as a full-grown bush.

She had him pegged from the get-go, didn’t she? 😁

It was not “a little windy out there” when Squeaky McTanktreads dropped the blank-looking pages, and called the UK the EU. In other news, Jake Tapper piggybacks on his notoriety and plugs a new thriller.

Susan Niemann's avatar

"Squeaky McTanktreads" 😂😂 Excellent!

Mary Hall's avatar

On The List. Thanks for another contribution Jeff!

Major Kong's avatar

The pages were blank weren't they? But Sleepy Joe Biden didn't know what his autopen was signing. Got it.

Mingo's avatar

I noticed that when Taco Don opened the binder, he was trying to display his Sharpie signature chickenscratch. But then the papers fell out and Starmer picked them up and placed them directly over Dumpy's signature. All while the imbecile praised his deal with the EU not UK. Everyday of this assclown's "presidency" is an embarrassment.

shee-rah's avatar

Yes! Windy! It actually was one of Trump’s famous farts that blew all the pages out of his hands.

How come no one mentions that we had an Iran Nuclear agreement, the JCPOA, but shit for brains cancelled it in his first term? Let's keep reminding folks that this is all on him. He's no doubt forgotten, but Britannica hasn't. You can look it up.

Mary Hall's avatar

Thank you for bringing this to our attention Dotty!

Denise Donaldson's avatar

Really good question, Dotty: how come? MSM is worthless. Worse than worthless. They'd NEVER ask a question like that.

Hannah's avatar

No need. Of course I remember.

Ms spouse was right. We love your letters Jeff. Keep writing. They are spot on and funny. Has to be funny or I’d go insane.

Notice how he appears unable to bend over and pick up the (blank) pages he just dropped? He makes no move to do so. Can anyone imagine him bending over and then standing back up??

-Comment-'s avatar

It would break the catheter if he bent over.

meryl selig's avatar

He didn’t want to dislodge the catheter and the piss bag strapped to his leg

Songgirl Kim's avatar

This is a fact. My daughter showed me a photo on TikTok where you can see the catheter tube under his pants. I’m wondering who gets to empty the piss bag.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Looks like he's brought back Waltine Nauta, listed on Google as "American Valet," to hover behind him. Collecting that sweet MAGA Kool-Aid.

arne link's avatar

Nauta was watching him closely at his perade. I think he was ready to catch him if he fell forward.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Agree. Nauta knew Melania wouldn't make the effort.

President Squeaky McTanktread!

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!

Jayme Wolworth's avatar

It was certainly telling that the only thing Trump had to brag about is that "it didn't rain, there was a 100% chance of rain, and it didn't rain" that's how special of a boy I am, it didn't rain on my perade!

And we ALL know if Joe would have called the UK the European Union it would be the main story for fuckin days. This tool gets a pass at everything because my god the press may lose their access to him if they actually report the truth. UGH 86-47

Mary Hall's avatar

"...perade!" Did T💩p also enjoy a smocking hot hamberder and covffe after the perade?

L to the O to the L!!

Chef's kiss on today's post. You and Ms Spouse were right. My husband tells me that the main reason he left the G7 was that he didn't want to be there when Zelenskyy arrived. Trump's fee-fees would have made him cry to see someone else treated with the respect, adoration and love by the world's leaders that he so desperately craves

Dave Drell's avatar

Oh, that’s gotta be the reason! No Z for Drumpf - he doesn’t like the way he dresses!

Deborah Hunter's avatar

I noticed Zelensky arrived after POS took his diaper and went home.

Jan Moon's avatar

Yeah, no ceasefire. Something bigger. An end. An end. So who knows what he did after he dropped the papers in the gale force winds. Nobody seems to know. Not even that sorry excuse for a press secretary can come up with much more than senseless babbling. I am sure the remaining G7 attendees are toasting with champagne now that the smelly, shit for brains weasel is out of their midst. LOVE the eye roll!

In my opinion, they shouldn't allow him into Canada which does NOT allow convicted felons into their country. Why was he accorded this special privilege? That's a perfect metaphor about why he gets around laws, regulations, past practices. He ignores them and gets away with it 98

% of the time.

Jan Moon's avatar

He just slithers his way out of every outrage he produces. I don't understand why nobody seems to have the capacity to exhibit some balls. Congress, the courts, the pitiful Cabinet. No, never mind the cabinet. Too Stepford. What kinds of threats are they cowering under? Hell, turn most of us loose and I guarantee we could turn things around. And yes, I'm old enough to take a bullet for Democracy.
