holy fuck!

we had a pretty spectacular storm up here in the Hudson Valley last night, but nothing close to tornado-level

Jeff Let's look at the politics of Ego-Bloated AssGoblin.

Texas. Iowa. Ohio. Kansas just slid off safe. Alaska held a dress rehearsal and Peltola won the damn thing. Republicans drew this map to be unloseable. They're at 54-46 now, down from a twenty-point cushion four weeks ago. Generic ballot: 46-40. Approval: 38%. Down four in a single month.

Their whole pitch was that a Paralympic gold medalist couldn't take a seat that FoxNews FartCloud won by nine. Turns out fertilizer costs money, diesel costs money, and Iowa can do arithmetic.

I will be happy to go surfing in November. https://thistleandmoss.com/p/when-november-comes-i-wanna-surf-that-blue-wave-straight-into-the-pipe

rlritt's avatar

My only concern is the divide I'm seeing in the Democrats. I thought we had a Big Tent, room for all. Sometimes I think the Democrats could screw up a ham sandwich. Can't we all get along and realize it the Trump party we need to campaign against.

Cyndi's avatar

I don't see a Democratic divide. I see a healthy debate about the future and an MSM desperate to push an anti-Democratic narrative for their billionaire owners.

The Epstein class is terrified.

Joyce's avatar

Exactly. And the Republicans are doing an excellent job thus far, getting some Democrats to buy--and spread-- the idea that there's some Grand Canyon divide. Just another variation on the campaign to get everyone demoralized and to stay home on Election Day.

Cyndi's avatar

Unlikely to work, though. Nothing gets people to the polls like trying to take away their right to vote, except maybe taking away their right to live.

Start with Jon Ossof. At least one guy without fucking tapioca in his skull needs to be a catalyst to fix this cosmic, biblical clusterfuck.

P123Sunny's avatar

Schumer recently said β€œWe don’t need Michigan…”

Wow.

P123Sunny's avatar

He’s doing better staying UNDER the rock!?!

Kim Steeves's avatar

Saw him on the news yesterday, counting his Senate chickens before they hatched! Silly man. tempting fate like that!

Sher''s avatar

That seems to be beyond their capabilities. .bottom line is we ALL gotta vote blue or we are ALL screwed. None of the crap they are rattling on about really matters . This is an emergency. Their crap drove me into being an Indeoendent. I will never vote red or stay home from a vote.

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

Between Jeffries, Schumer and a DNC who can’t accept getting behind a progressive candidate, nor agenda. I’m still not convinced the old school democrats will be turning anything around. We need fighters with bold new ideas more today than ever!

Kevin Rice's avatar

Well, the kind of ham and the kind of bread matters. Regular ham, smoked ham, honey ham? Prosciutto? Something different? Thin, regular, or thicker? Then there's a huge selection of breads, from white to dark rye and everything in between. Finally, what condiment, if any, goes on it? Mustard? Mayo? Miracle Whip? Something else? Do we want lettuce (if yes, what kind)? Do we want pickles (and again, what kind)?

Note that there is only one correct combination.

devourerofpancakes's avatar

Speaking of, my local rag referred to FL as "turning red" instead of "gerry-mandered AF". Actually it may have been an AP article. Do better, AP writers.

Wendy The Druid πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈπŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸŒˆ's avatar

Yeah, I dont see FL turning red. The way things red, a light blue color. And its shocking.

Scott Gilbert's avatar

I live in Bradenton and my neighborhood is so fucking red it glows in the dark.

devourerofpancakes's avatar

Oh I'm sure lots of areas are heavily Republican. but the article was saying that FL used to vote more often for Democrats and than magically started voting solidly Republican as opposed to Republicans gerrymandered the voting maps to give themselves an advantage.

Scott Gilbert's avatar

But now they've got it gerrymandered, which I hope will become a dummymander.

rlritt's avatar

The parties shifted over the years. The South was always Democrat because the Republicans were the party of Lincoln. I'm not sure when that shifted.

Richard Von Busack's avatar

I by contrast live in the SF East Bay, and it's so blue it's ultraviolet. You can take out that black-light poster with the skulls on it and it glows naturally right on the sidewalk.

Oh, there are red pockets all over that state.

Miami, The keys, etc.

Those spaces (and the queer representation in them) I found enjoyable.

Scott Gilbert's avatar

I'm thinking that there are blue pockets, like Miami, maybe Orlando, and Key West. Otherwise, I don't know the state well enough to go further with my favorite color.

Diana Hembree's avatar

I went to college in St. Pete (not too far away?). The campus was solid blue and it seemed like the town was pretty liberal, too, although it has been a long time since then....

P123Sunny's avatar

Nice distinction

J Hardy Carroll's avatar

Iowa as a red state is a new thing designed by Terry Branstad and ALEC. This was the first state to outlaw Jim Crow, the second to legalize same-sex marriage, and the only state to birth both Henry Wallace and Herbert Hoover. Those two men represent the extremes of American leadership. Wallace got fucked out of being president in 1944 by having the racist Democratic old guard push him off the ballot, and we've been paying for it ever since. Hoover's disaster allowed FDR to implement social democracy, at least for a while

Jean Jacoby's avatar

When I scanned this initially, I thought it said "Rare tomato hits New York City..." And I said, holy shit, attack of the killer tomatoes!

Anyway, I knew that Monty Python would show up at some point, as the final comment on human idiocy, and so very perfect for these times. But Melania digging a grave was up there too.

Dana Jae Labrecque's avatar

Oh, NOT FAIR, Jeanne! I never sip my coffee while reading Jeff’s Stack as I learned my lesson long ago. So I sip reading comments. I just blasted a mouthful of coffee and choked on my laughter at this. So damn funny. Now I’m hearing the song-song opening, β€œAttaaaack of the killer tomaaaatoes!” In my head.

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

A tornado in the big apple? When was the last time that happened?

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

dunno. we had one up here about twenty years ago that formed in the Hudson, went through about a miles of woodlands, crossed the Sprain Brook Parkway in Hawthorne and then died. for about fifteen years you could see the path of destruction through the woods, but now it's all grown over again

https://www.lohud.com/picture-gallery/news/local/2024/07/12/ef2-tornado-hits-central-westchester-in-2006/74376873007/

Marlene Lerner-Bigley (CA)'s avatar

Damn, that’s right new media, bring California into the storm! Poor California Closets. Fun aside, that tornado did some real damage. Ugh

SethTriggs's avatar

It happens rarely! There were a couple in the early oughts; one in around Brooklyn for example. New York State in general rarely gets tornadoes. But with climate change it's entirely possible we'll start getting more as humid, warmer air moves northwards.

Joanne Rossmassler Fritz's avatar

With climate change (or as I call it, the climate crisis) we'll continue to have weird weather patterns, hotter summers, colder winters (as the arctic sea ice continues to melt and push the cold air south). Wasn't July the hottest month on record, as long as they've been keeping records?

SethTriggs's avatar

That's right. We probably will have to expect this.

In Other Shit That Happened...

Under Trump, Protected Wild Horses Are Going to Slaughter

A legal loophole allows the government to sell mustangs on the cheap, stripping them of protections and clearing their path to destruction

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/08/20/us/trump-wild-horses-legal-loophole-slaughter.html

The horses were packed into echoing metal trailers and trucked 1,800 miles east to the pens of a hard-luck livestock trader in Ohio named Brandon Jones, who bought them for $25 each.

A day later, two double-decker cattle trucks pulled up at midnight, loaded the mustangs and quickly drove off into the night.

Why would Trump Administration treat protected animals any better than U.S. residents with legal rights??!!

Joan Eisenstodt's avatar

Glad you are safe from the no doubt redrawn in Sharpie weather map that zoned in on NYC bec of you know … the Mayor.

J Hardy Carroll's avatar

We had a tornado last night, as well, on the mainland (Egg Harbor Township), just a few miles from our island - Ocean City, NJ. Very scary.

Chris Hierholzer's avatar

Stephen Schiff's avatar

Not meaning to get tooooo nerdy, but extreme weather events are to be expected as a result of global warming. It has to do with the increasing varianc in a stochastic process. For some fun light reading on this topic, see Nelson Wax, ed., Selected Papers on Noise and Stochastic Processes, Dover, 1954.

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

fun fact: the first draft title of this post, as I wrote it last night before going to bed, was 'economic policy, but with morons' β€” but then, as I sat down to write the post this morning, the Natalie stuff took over. especially after I found out about the letters.

and I never got around to using this dumb-ass quote from Soybean Scott, which I had originally intended to lead with: https://bsky.app/profile/atrupar.com/post/3mtjobexdm22s

I guess Bessent didn't bother to read this report just released from the Brookings Institute. https://www.brookings.edu/articles/ice-enforcement-employment-effects-us-cities/

The employment effects of ICE enforcement in US cities:

--The enforcement surge cost 668,000 jobs.

--Job losses far exceeded the number of people arrested.

--Losses concentrated in immigrant-intensive sectors but spread well beyond them.

Tracey Johnson's avatar

My jaw dropped at that one! Not sure why, at this point...

Joe Witkowski's avatar

He is wrecking the U.S. economy

Still, where does the money for the buyback come from? From sales of government issued shorter-term debt, largely Treasury bills.

This is just a swap of longer-term government debt for shorter-term, riskier government debt. It does nothing to resolve the underlying U.S. fiscal problems that caused the spike in the 30-year debt. Some analysts call Bessent’s strategyβ€œrearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.”

But it’s actually worse than that. I won’t go into all the wonky details here, but Bessent’s bond move is functionally equivalent to β€œquantitative easing,” the policy the Federal Reserve followed in the early 2010s.

Nobody fucking meesed Melanoma. We are more than happy for her to be off fucking the cabana boy, or as reported elsewhere, her own binkie aide. Jeff asked how much more she got paid to hold the rotted hand. I'd ask whether her appearance was six or seven figures worth of our tax dollars.

George in Atlanta's avatar

You don't understand, do you? National Security standards cannot allow random cabana boys to be schtupping the FLOTUS. There is a handsome young Naval officer, on her staff, tasked with that duty. The post dates back to at least LadyBird Johnson, possibly to Dolly Madison, skipping the unmarried gay presidents. The Secret Service was constantly unhappy that Jackie insisted on taking care of her own business.

Peter's avatar

Since when did anyone around Fat Donnie give one single f'k about national security standards? Real national security standards would have kept Patel, Blanche, and above all Whiskey Pete Hegseth from their jobs.

George in Atlanta's avatar

You are correct, of course. Therein lies my use of irony and toxic mockery to make a point pretty much in parallel with your own. Different style, same message.

Neal Stiffelman's avatar

Who was it you reckon got the Slovenian to make this appearance? I has ideas but I’d like to crowdsource it.

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

Susie Wiles would be my guess

Neal Stiffelman's avatar

I suspect her long-haired publicity agent pushed her to do it. As an aside, whither that tall Tate Bros. fanboy she birthed and left for the wolves to raise?

Joanne Rossmassler Fritz's avatar

Barron is 20 years old and has a net worth of 150 million, which is more than Melanoma is worth. Yeah right. Oh, and he recently voted by mail. And just how involved is he with the Tate Bros?

Neal Stiffelman's avatar

Big, enthusiastic follower. Reportedly intervened on their behalf to co-opt DOJ on European charges.

rlritt's avatar

Im sure Melania is doing just fine financially. I'd be curious to see how attractive women married to rich old goats met them on Epstein's island.

Kim Steeves's avatar

It has been reported that she receives a check monthly in the form of alimony from donOLD.

Stephen Brady's avatar

I’m sure it involved transferring some coin from Donnie’s Super PAC to her irrevocable trust fund.

devourerofpancakes's avatar

He's not paying with this own money!

Stephen Brady's avatar

No, never! His whole life has been about squandering OPM!

Kim Steeves's avatar

He has NO money, he is a broke ass bitch!

He has always stolen other people's money!

Neal Stiffelman's avatar

He did listen to her on the effort to permit her son’s company to display Kwik-E-Mart THC and CBD products for sale, β€œgas station weed”.

Leu2500's avatar

Reporting is that Wiles & Leavitt are leading the charge on getting rid of Natalie. But there are plenty of others. one piece of reporting I read said it had 4 WH sources.

devourerofpancakes's avatar

I assume then that they leaked the letters to the Daily Beast.

Neal Stiffelman's avatar

Those letters had been shared before, other sources having described them, but it’s possible Wiles had a hand in their current release.

devourerofpancakes's avatar

Really? And her presence is only NOW being questioned by the press? I mean, there are way more important things happening, I get it. But she is right next to the President. Who she is matters too.

Joyce's avatar

I remember seeing some random, short-lived items about Nurse Natty before on MS-NOW, but we all really have to thank the MAGAts and Republicans for bringing her right into the center of a blazing spotlight. She'd successfully managed to cruise under the radar, until they blew Ossoff's passing, factual comment into orbit.

Joe Witkowski's avatar

Without a fucking security clearance, only the security blanket and diapers for that senile old satanic fuck

devourerofpancakes's avatar

Well that is the big question for me. Does she have clearance? One that hasn't been answered yet, I don't think.

Imagine throwing away an albeit shitty job as a TV chattering head on an off-brand network in exchange for years as a "Human Printer", crouching in the back of a golf cart to provide Dumpster with flattering BS about himself 24/7. "I am unworthy!" Her estranged brother Prescott is actually a cool dude who laughingly commented that Trump's only trusted circle of friends is his little fan club.

rlritt's avatar

Thats stupid, if they get rid her than they might be forced to babysit him.

rlritt's avatar

I think they deserve each other. He is according to some reports really failing mentally. What is important is who is really making these fascist decisions. Miller? Bessent, Blanche?

devourerofpancakes's avatar

Vought. I think Russ Vought is running the show from OMB.

Neal Stiffelman's avatar

Much of it. And Miller.

Gayna's avatar

Maybe if he dumps her it will be like Fatal Attraction β€” only successful.

Neal Stiffelman's avatar

That would require passion.

rlritt's avatar

Why would they care about Natalie? She keeps the big baby quiet and occupied.

arne link's avatar

It's always money with this loving couple. He paid her a bunch of money to smile, same as always.

Neal Stiffelman's avatar

She has money. Perhaps Bezos spoke with her publicity doofus about another project.

arne link's avatar

These people can never have enough money. Plus, there is the pleasure of forcing him to pay for her services again. Win win?

Neal Stiffelman's avatar

Doesn’t seem adequate but, as you note, it’s pigs at the trough with the slop all ready.

SethTriggs's avatar

There is supposed to be yet another "documentary" about Racist Birther Trophy Wife in fact, because they want to make fetch happen. The problem is, if you make a documentary about someone that person actually has to do interesting things.

arne link's avatar

If Bezos did a story about her time as an escort working for Epstein, that would actually generate some interest.

devourerofpancakes's avatar

And be a whole lot more relevant.

Neal Stiffelman's avatar

Meh. Old news, and the base would champion her tough rags-to-riches story.

rlritt's avatar

I dont begrudge her. She is from Slovenia of all place. All she had was her looks and she capitalized on that.

Mary Greenwald's avatar

She used to charge $250,000 for an appearance. I assume this one - since it was commanded before she could get her blond roots back cost even more! At least Natalie, with all she has to do, can keep her roots platinum.

Neal Stiffelman's avatar

Sure, there’s money upfront, but someone β€œconnected” made it happen.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Steven Cheung, WH communications director, has commented directly to the media about the Natalie comment, so I'd wager the Here's Melania optics idea came out of his monkey-fucking-a-coconut brain.

rlritt's avatar

I imagine she was pissed to have to leave her pool boy behind.

Susan Niemann's avatar

You took the words outta my mouth...Miss Natalie needs an intervention and pronto! Her 'crazy' is further demonstrated by taking both hands off the wheel of her car and filming a journalist with her phone and screaming Fuck You!

This all cant end soon enough.

Happy Friday... I think.

Jayme Wolworth's avatar

Word is that Natalie was a huge influence on the tearing down of the East Wing. Could it be that is was because the First Lady's office would be demolished as well?

She really could be considered a national security threat, and after reading those letters, holy shit. She's desperate for him and it's not healthy ffs. Her refusing to complete a security clearance application is another bad sign that she's got more to hide than meets the eye.

ONLY THE BEST!!!

Susan Niemann's avatar

I agree. Susie Wiles needs to get this under control- or not. It actually makes me question Wiles and her (in)ability to manage things.

Jayme Wolworth's avatar

HI2thDoc's avatar

Since he doesn’t own any pets, I hope she boils Jr

arne link's avatar

That would be the perfect end to this soap opera. Lord, hear our prayer.

arne link's avatar

Maybe she is getting chemo brain, poor lady. I mean, working for trump and getting cancer is really a double whammy.

Susan Niemann's avatar

If she even had cancer...I just read that Snopes is having a hard time verifying that claim.

Jayme Wolworth's avatar

I read that she was treated with an immotherapy drug that was already approved off-label and it was before Trump signed the Right to Try Bill. I'm pretty sure there are good reasons that she wouldn't complete her security clearance form. They go deep.

Natalie is blond, dumber than a bag of hammers, deeply weird and willing to debase herself in imaginative ways. In other words, Donald's dream girl.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

How dumb is she? She thinks Trump actually read her long-winded, pleas for attention letters ("I forgot to eat and sleep!"). He can't even read bulleted Presidential Briefings, he's so literacy challenged.

Welcome to Trump's America.

Every evening, Trump Dracula and his latest "wife" Natalie, retire into their dark and cavernous bat cave below the former "East Wing" (the real reason for the teardown) to plot their moves for the upcoming day. Soon, they are joined by many fellow vampire heroes; Stephen Miller, Pete Testosterone Hegseth, RFK Jr, Bessent, Vought, "Justices" Thomas & Alito & sometimes Roberts, Peter Navarro, and etc.

It feels like they settle on 3 or 4 new plots everyday to attack the American People, our Constitution and titillate their cult base. The villagers are catching on. Their reign will end soon. The pitchforks and silver stakes are ready. We will overcome.
