today in Shit That Happened While I Was Busy Writing This Shit—
"Washington Post Ordered to Rehire Fired Columnist
An arbitrator ordered the newspaper to reinstate Karen Attiah, who was fired after posting about 'white men who espouse hatred and violence' following Charlie Kirk’s killing."
On Tuesday the Grifter-in-Chief typed "DEAL!" in all caps. By Friday the talks were dead, and at midnight fifty-percent tariffs hit twenty billion dollars of Canadian goods. Carney matched him dollar for dollar. Doug Ford — Doug Ford — said good riddance. Somebody pays the price. It's gotta be us.
Along those lines I wonder if there's a connection between the Orange Turd's announcement on cheap ground meat and the wild horse slaughter. At this stage nothing is off the table.
The food situation is what I expected. Today Democrats Abroad Social Media leader, Angela Fobbs wrote a Substack piece about us basically going back to the times before Upton Sinclair got Congress to pass food safety laws with his book "The Jungle."
I too read "The Jungle," a must read for Chicagoans in school. It was part of our Chicago history syllabus. Although Upton Sinclair supposedly only spent 2 days in Chicago to write it, he captured the city well. As a child I visited the Chicago Stock Yards on a school field trip. I was 7. This is before they closed them. So, when I read the book in High School I had an image of those stock yards, and it was enough to make one not want to eat meat.
Later on I read "Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All American Meal" by Eric Schlosser, and got the sense that particularly in some Red States immigrant workers in the meatpacking Industry were working in unsafe "jungle-like" conditions again. Again, we see how without regulation industries just exploit people and cause dangerous situations. It was already hard enough to protect us when they did have people inspecting. I dread thinking about what is going on with them all gone. I assume some of this food is going to the White House. I mean, no inspections means no inspections. Even if Trump had a taster like Putin does, it takes a while for these foods to have a reaction and so that would not be a protection. Think of what a week or a month of shitting nonstop could do for all sorts of issues because someone would not have time to post to social media all night.
So when I read Project 2025, I had images of what life would be like and I warned that unregulated, the US was going to have unsafe water, food, air and products that you purchase. Not just the horrid situation with baby formula that we had during Biden, who spent a lot of effort trying to fix the problems in the factories and ended up buying it in bulk from Germany. I predicted what is happening now with food, and other things, because Project 2025 made it clear what things would be like if the people behind it got the president to enact what they planned.
We are clearly living under an unfeeling regime that does not govern, it removes. It removes Protections for us, and barriers for the Oligarchs who bought Trump the White House. Voting for Democrats will not solve all problems but I think Dems will be eager to return people into jobs that have been stripped of people who know what they are doing and make working conditions safer in the food industries as well as regulate our food to be safe for consumption. This is true of about everything in the US.
Slighly off topic, but speaking of accountability, where are the refunds for the illegal tariffs we paid? Why have we (apparently) decided it's okay if the companies receive and keep the refunds? I know donnie and his fuckwits don't care, but why aren't dem politicians and we raising hell about this?
no clue. the House and the Senate have been out of session for weeks, and won't be back until after Labor Day. but that's really no excuse for not making noise about it
Someone commented on another thread that it's all another grift. Companies pay the tariffs. They raise consumer prices to cover the cost of the tariffs. Tariffs get refunded to the company. Big business benefits, we get shafted and the companies win out either way. I don't really see prices going down on the items that were previously covered by the tariffs so the big companies permanently increase their prices and we're told "it's the tariffs."
🎯The tarriff prices just eventually became the regular price. Then add inflation. Then add a fuel surcharge for high gas prices. Then add a delivery fee. And a convenience fee. And a 3% surcharge so the consumer also absorbs the cost of credit card transactions. Then add more threatened tariffs, even though they’re still charging for the tariffs that were ruled to be illegal. It never stops until we stop buying. And that is easier said than done.
I understand that businesses, who paid the tariffs directly, have started getting their refunds.
but customers, who paid them indirectly, are shit out of luck. No way do businesses have the records to do this.
So the fix is for Congress to give us refunds, kind of like the COVID checks. I think it's up to an average of $1700/person. We need to pressure the (knock on wood) Democratic House & Senate come 1/3/27 to do this.
On a brighter note that Kushner (apparently de facto Prez) meeting with Jeffries would indicate the Repubs think there are dark storm clouds on the horizon for them.
Safely in the pockets of C-level suits who passed the original tariff prices on to the rest of us. Yes, this is definitely something democrats should run on.
There is a class action against Logitech getting off the ground, but I don’t see any of these succeeding. Companies raised prices or they didn’t, it’s up to consumers to choose to pay those prices or not. The only suits that have a chance are the ones where buyers paid an itemized “tariff fee” to the retailer.
What aren’t Dems raising hell about a lot of things? Why????? Do they not know how to raise Hell? Do they not know how to counter shit?
I know they don’t have the vote.
BUT as a teacher if there was one thing I learned from my fondly remembered middle school boys was how to get your way when you are not in power. With out hurting anyone, paying $, or inciting a riot.
I see our representatives as a lot of pampered taking care of themselves softies hell bent on doing everything perfectly to our laws and NO THINKING OUT OF THE BOX.
HELLO. WE ARE LOSING BIG TIME. WE HAVE LOST SO MUCH NOW, WITH THE CURRENT TREND, WE ARE LOST. 😡
The only way Donny can fix this shit is to resign and take every one of his shoe shiners in the Cabinet, in his Administration, and in Congress with him. Then, maybe, we would have a shot to get back to normalcy. But, do tell us, everyone who voted for Trump, how he made your dreams come true by getting rid of men in women’s sports, and women’s bathrooms
I was listening to Dan Cummins's podcast and he mentioned that when McDonald's came out with the Quarter Pounder, A&W countered with a 1/3 pound burger, but it flopped because many Americans thought 1/4 lb. was more than 1/3 of a lb. This made me think, ah, no wonder we are here now.
I dont know for sure, but I believe Don has age-related dementia. All his handlers keep him front and center to distract the country while they do the really bad stuff behind the scenes.
A study by Stanford University researchers this year found that after fatal school shootings, pro-gun political-action committees dramatically increased their contributions to their preferred U.S. House candidates in the districts where the shootings occurred, when those races were competitive. These shifts in spending were not observed after other incidents of mass gun violence or after nonfatal school shootings—only when children were killed in schools. Over the many years that I reported on gun violence, the gun lobby’s enormous campaign spending was no secret. But the Stanford study reveals how these groups targeted their money, raising their aggressive tactics to a new level.
and by the way, speaking of plans to subvert elections and the rules just published by the USPS to interfere in midterm elections... coming to a screen near you this Wednesday morning (or sooner if the caffeine is strong and the neurons continue to fire):
“The Architecture of Election Subversion”
Here’s a raw, unfiltered, unedited excerpt:
“… The language of “election integrity” cannot disguise what this represents. This is not election reform. It is a lawless usurpation of power, an attempt by the Trump administration to seize authority over American elections, authority that the Constitution does not give him and Congress has never granted him. He has directed that the states submit their voters for federal scrutiny, the federal government decides which determinations it will accept, the USPS becomes a checkpoint between citizens and their ballots, and election officials who resist the federal government’s conclusions are threatened with the possibility of prosecution.…”
I hadn't seen the news about the horses and now I want to have every single trump supporter lined up in front of me so I can slap them across the face. Just once but fucking hard.
The account I read said the cost of the round up/transport was $1500 per Mustang for the return of $25 per Mustang. Gotta ask who will benefit from that big a financial loss? What’s planned for the land they formerly roamed?
I can't find the video, but since the green flag Dumpf waved yesterday just happens to be green screen green, someone chroma keyed Epstein's face that was visible whenever the full flag was visible. Chef's kiss!
Chocolate is heading to extinction due to climate change. Vanilla is on the same tract. Another consequence of electing the people of Project 2025. The revolution is going to arrive too late.
It looked too much like an umbrella. Very, very confusing; very difficult to operate. No one's ever operated a furled flag like he has--everyone was saying, "Sir, sir! That's the best new way to hold a flag--no one ever thought of that way before!" Tears were flowing everywhere, while huge biceps flexed, all on their own.
So, about those horses. During the Biden administration they also used helicopters (but no intentional slaughter) to remove the horses from public land. 11% of them were injured and had to be euthanized. The thing that really gets me though is that it was suposedly a 10 day operation and they moved 5,000 horses at a cost of ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY MILLION DOLLARS!!!! WTF WTF WTF! $32,000.00 PER HORSE!
Why is it that everything the government does costs fifty times or more what it would cost normally?? These government contractors are always so proud of the profits that they make off of the back of US taxpayers, it makes me sick.
And the horses that were recently sold were re-sold to Canada through some shady deal. Figures.
8647 before all of the endagered animals are gone
Love the daily Claudia, and I adore those CHAIRS! Jeff.
The mass removal and slaughter of wild horses is a treasured item on the cattle industry's wish list. The purpose is to clear federal land for cattle grazing, which inevitably leads to erosion. Whole Foods (owned by Amazon, i.e. Bezos) was caught up in this hideous scandal a few years ago, peddling its all-natural grassfed beef. The horse slaughtering process uses machetes and is not humane. Boycott beef, goddamnit.

That was my stunner of the weekend.

We always get the shaft in late-stage capitalism! So it's only if the company is really really really nice that we might get things back.
Complicating things is that Everything is Tariffs or Bombs in Maladministration 2.0.
We had a choice in 2024: either ‘Pottersville’ or ‘Bedford Falls’… yup we chose Pottersville, inexplicably

Haha!! Good one!!!
Overhyped slogans worked in Idiocracy, so why not. EXTREME PLUS DELUXE WITH ELECTROLYTES!
Resign. Oh, Richard, that’s hilarious!

People don't like dead kids so you gotta lobby extra hard after a school shooting, when you have no soul.
I agree. I concluded they were just evil shits a long time ago. Demented people are rarely this manipulative. 👹
My money is in Melania telling him he would get a better view on the road…
😂
I wonder how much it cost US taxpayers to have Melonoma “SMILING” next to him for the past two days? As much as the ballroom?
I would like to say that not many women would do it for any price…
Thank you Jeff.
What people should be caring about:
The attempt to subvert the midterm elections.
Wildfires forcing the evacuation of thousands in Reno.
The criminal elect and his corrupt Cabinet now claiming to have invented "Economic Sanctions" since losing the war/not war versus Iran.
Putin drafting 300,000 troops to begin a new offensive against Ukraine and Europe.
Importing "beef" and other mystery foods because we're all volunteer food inspectors now.
Inflation. Remember inflation?
Hegseth: Secretary of Warcrimes
$40 trillion in debt to be repaid throughout our working lifetime, our children's lifetime, and so on.
Epstein - Trump - Maxwell child trafficking and abuse files. Remember those?
So Trump/Vance, WWE, and Indy can GFT.

You are so much kinder than I! I’d grab some brass knuckles and give a right cross to their teeth.
A lot of 'em look like someone's done that already, lol!
I'm a writer so I have to preserve my knuckles, but you can take a turn right after me. lol
No kidding Jennifer- told my husband that is so much worse than the Indy cars- I said a few bad words ! That underhand move sucks!
I’m not buying any “hamburger”.

Meanwhile, ice cream has been recalled in three states because of rubber contamination....
Just curious - what was the viewership for this pathetic race?
They were probably trying to pass the rubber bits off as extra chocolate chips
In their defense, chocolate has gotten really pricey, whereas used tires are cheap.
Got some more used tires after this weekend. Freshly ground Indy tires--probably makes great coffee, too.
Chocolate is heading to extinction due to climate change. Vanilla is on the same tract. Another consequence of electing the people of Project 2025. The revolution is going to arrive too late.
😆
And does anyone even know who won- or cares to know?
Nobody wins, really.
I wasn’t even aware it had happened already. I guess faux news was the only one that “covered” it.
I didn't have a clue it was yesterday. Nor did I care, except for the monstrous cost. And weaselly Unholy Mike wants to make it an annual event?!?
"spoiler alert: yes, he fucking well did. it’s a flag. it only has one place to grab onto it. how do you screw that up?"
1) he is known for grabbing inappropriate things.
2) dementia
