I worked for $1.60 an hour myself. I got paid every two weeks and took home $108 after taxes and withholding. I did that for a year then found a job that paid $2.05 an hour and overtime. I had a house to pay for and utilities. I have a different set of concerns now being retired.

I worked for $1.25/hour on the line cooking burgers WITHOUT AC in a Southern state, at Burger Chef when I was 16 years old. (I supported myself at that time.)
