If that's what people remember, they're missing a lot. The Saudis were almost certainly behind the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, however. As to "new" besties -- uh, no. Remember ARAMCO? Once upon a time it was the Arabian American Oil Company, and it was founded in the mid-1930s by Standard Oil of California.

No Standard Oil/Chevron. First their headquarters were in the city, then they moved out to San Ramon. I heard in the last year that they were moving to Texas. They can't move their shipping operations from Richmond because then they'd have to pay for their environmental damage. But business operations, I think they're going or gone.

Isn't Meta/Facebook doing likewise? California's just too blue for Zuck.

I don't know. I thought Zuck was here because of the weather, although maybe his wife is from here. His estate here is Saudi style, if you ask me. It's not like he went to Stanford. I'm sure he'll love Texas and its great weather. That's heavy sarcasm, but with whom can he and Priscilla and little Maxima and August socialize here? Or maybe they can go to Hawaii? They probably don't want him there either. California is his best bet for surviving the climate crisis, but he's trying for other options that he can privately finance.
