I just broke the Fifth Commandment by writing sixteen hundred words on Sunday

Mike Phelan's avatar

christofascists could benefit from similar self reflection

Mary Virginia Hughes's avatar

Beyond their abilities. This is the group that says we can sin over and over because that's the way it works, until you're one of those evil leftist Democrats. By the way, folks, this is who you get when your elections have low turnout to vote.

blackdog1955's avatar

And/or woke dems encourage their constituents not to vote because they put Hamas before America.

Isaac Segal's avatar

Hamas and Bibi can both go to hell. What you should be thinking about are the ordinary people caught in the middle. And how Trump would only make this worse for everyone.

Mary Virginia Hughes's avatar

Total effin insanity. Do they stop for one effin second to understand that if they get Trump back in, he'll totally send even more of whatever Netanyahu, trying to also save his own sorry ass, is getting already? And that after all we've given and done for him, his one thing coming here to talk to the Christofascist House is how Biden didn't send him one shipment. Trump gets in and he'll do his best to take away all that public protesting they're doing and probably make sure Palestine gets wiped off the map and turned over to Israel to settle the heck out of it.

Bonnie Council's avatar

Absolutely. Ignorant people blaming Biden for Netanyahu need to read a bit of history. And know that if trump wins (legitimately or otherwise) he will help Bibi complete the mission he’s been on for years.

Mary Virginia Hughes's avatar

A giant, giant, giant frustration. And if you go "out into the world of comments here and there" where you find these people, their trying to trash what your researched, source and fact-filled observation is a boiling cauldron of stupidity, like "you're so brainwashed" and degrades from there. They have nothing but insults with not a damned thing to back it up except the MAGAbrain line on that.

Some people's nightmares are other people's sweet dreams.

Mary Virginia Hughes's avatar

You're right on the edge of being obtuse. Okay, whose nightmares are whose sweet dreams. I feel like I've got to be very sure what you're saying and who you are calling the bad guys and good guys.

Rebecca Elliott's avatar

I'm about as woke as they come, and I will most certainly vote for Biden. I am not an idiot, and hence, not a single-issue voter. MOST of us are not.

Mary Virginia Hughes's avatar

I'm hoping in all these daily polls they are missing us every single time. We need them to be wrong again. Trump just cannot be allowed to win.

Doc Blase''s avatar

When has this happened?

blackdog1955's avatar

Rashida Tlaib circa 5/26.

KL Pierce's avatar

Go troll somewhere else!

blackdog1955's avatar

Rashida Tlaib circa 5/26.

DR Darke's avatar

You are not only a MAGAt, you're a reported one now.

Go BERN in Hell with Bloodthirsty Bibi where you both belong.

DR Darke's avatar

So, you're just dandy with Bibi the Butcher killing untold thousands of women and children noncombatants because they're PALESTINIAN?

Who died and gave YOU the power over Life and Death?

At last count, Netanyahu has killed over 37,500 people, and sentenced 120 more hostages to death by refusing to come to the peace table. That's 31.58 times the number of people Hamas killed on October 7th—this has gone far beyond retaliation and into genocide, which is why Rep. Tlaib, a Palestinian herself, is objecting to Biden waving his hands ineffectually and whispering "No...stop....".

You MUST be a Trump Republican.

Mary Virginia Hughes's avatar

Who are you talking to with this? I don't see anybody making a MAGA comment.

DR Darke's avatar

Well, Ken Rozov seems all too happy to blame every Palestinian he knows of for Hamas's attack, and completely ignoring Netanyahu's excessive response—that seems pretty MAGAt-y to me!

blackdog1955's avatar

You believe Hamas' numbers which are total b.s. These are guys who played catch with women's severed breasts. You think they wouldn't lie about civilian casualties! Are you gullable, stupid or just plain antisemetic?

PJ Schuster's avatar

It has been long since proven that Israels or the IDF lied about the 40 babies with severed heads. They lied because they needed it to sound even more horrific than it actually was. It was horrible on it’s own, they didn’t need to lie about it, but they did.

You should listen to the podcast on Chris Hayes’ “Why is This Happening” where he interviews a Jewish woman, married to a Palestinian man, living in the West Bank. She describes how she & her daughter are treated when she needs to go into Israel for any reason; & this was before Oct 7 happened. It’s very eye opening

Abigail Norling's avatar

This just absolutely floors me!

PJ Schuster's avatar

What idiots like you don’t seem to get, is that just because we give a damn about innocent people by the thousands, including tiny children, being slaughtered, does NOT in any way mean that we condone Hamas or put Hamas before Americans.

Anyone who cannot see that doesn’t have an ounce of empathy in their hearts.

Kathleen Weber's avatar

Actually, you would have broken the 5th commandment if you had written these words on a SATURDAY. We're talking about Yahweh here.

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

well I wrote about eleven hundred words yesterday, so I'm doomed no matter what

Kathleen Weber's avatar

Well, unlike DFF you do not deny your many grievous sins!

Dr J's Sanity Space's avatar

We will all join you there - an orgy!!!

TJTarheel's avatar

Nah. Look what Trump does on Sunday and he said it himself that he’s never ever sinned or needs forgiveness. Nope. Can’t. Do. That. He’s a liar and call it what you will but he’s the first to get by with that! Evangelicals don’t accept that or they didn’t but he’s playing to his own crowed.

David A Pitock's avatar

bruce somers's avatar

The Catholic Church in here in San Diego has declared bankruptcy from paying all the sexual assault lawsuits they've had, unfortunately none of the commandments is 'Thou shall not molest and groom children'...and how a church, that claims not to be a 'business',declare 'bankruptcy',beats the hell outta me.

Rebecca Elliott's avatar

I will only remind you that the molestation of children is not the purview of ONLY the Catholic church. It is rampant, insofar as I can tell, across ALL denominations, and regularly hidden across ALL denominations. I think we tend to focus on the Catholics because their priests are also sworn to celibacy.

SPW's avatar

Rock on Sir Jeff! Rock on.

Deb Martina's avatar

Yes ma'am! Jeff is our saving grace during this fuckery

David A Pitock's avatar

Watson, there's high fuckery about.

Kathleen Weber's avatar

Jeff, I don't want to inhibit you from making cracks about fainting, but there was not a single POC at that bill signing, so I don't think anyone was malnourished.

I have a non-threatening medical conditioned that makes fainting quite a big part of my life. The brain cannot store either sugar or oxygen and the lack of either causes fainting.

To me, it is obvious that the girl's faint came from a lack of oxygen. Locking the knees while standing inhibits the return of blood to the brain. Soldiers are warned against that practice. The faint began when she raised her hands to clap which is a small physical effort that would further deplete the available oxygen in her bloodstream.

I basically never faint these days, because when I sit up, I have learned to monitor the state of my brain until it has adjusted to the upright position. It is a subtle feeling, but clear enough to me. The trouble comes when the doorbell rings and I jump up without going through the protocol.

Diana Hembree's avatar

Yes, I also fainted while in a band and standing with locked knees. Luckily the trumpet player beside me was also a doctor and caught me before I hit the floor, told me what to do, etc. And just one small caution: There are a lot of poor whites in the south and other states, although I doubt they would be invited to stand behind the governor as he signed that bill.

Rebecca Elliott's avatar

Imagine, thinking that ONLY POC are victims of malnutrition. This took place in Louisiana, where 24.4% of children OF ALL COLORS live at the poverty level. This means that one out of every four children shown in the video may well have been malnourished. Subsistence hunting is almost the norm. I've lived there, and have seen it first hand.

Kathleen Weber's avatar

Thanks for these further accurate details. However, I don't think any impoverished children are going to end up behind the governor at a signing ceremony. Indeed, I couldn't find a single POC in the video.

Rebecca Elliott's avatar

True. Just as you won't find but possibly three POC in the black church where Trump held a rally. Nor a single woman on Republican committees about women's health.

Doc Blase''s avatar

"Jeff, I don't want to inhibit you from making cracks about fainting, but" I'm going to anyway.

Kathleen Weber's avatar

Not at all true — I provided context on fainting which is obviously something Jeff is not perfectly familiar with. Everyone should welcome a full picture of the topics they discuss. Fainting from lack of calories could be true if she was anorexic, but it doesn't look to me like she is.

MAGA makes a living by making uninformed statements—should we? If I make a joke, and someone is able to clarify that my premise was faulty, I have no problem with that whatsoever.

DonP's avatar

Jeff, I thought you were Jewish. Not that it matters. The Sabbath, of Shabbat, is actually on SATURDAY. So, technically, you broke it yesterday. 😊

Just gold

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

props to Ms. Spouse, who told me to change "dipshit" to "incel"

Donald Lipkis's avatar

Yes TFG has broken every commandment except one. But remember, he did want protesters shot in the legs. And with the inevitable complications one or more could easily have died. So no, he doesn’t get a pass on that one either.

Cat Cafe's avatar

Oh, I'm not so sure about that. Examples:

1. The hundreds of thousands of his cultists who died needlessly when there was a vaccine available

2. The poor kid in Niger who died because TFG sent US Marines (and paid mercenaries) into a completely unstable hotspot of interest only to the Kremlin, and then, because it was led by paid mercenaries, they left the kid to be ambushed and killed (as opposed to Marines, whose policiy is "no man left behind"), and then of course told his grieving mother "hey, he knew what he was getting into"

3. Let's all consider what's REALLY on the videotape that Putin has on him (and there's a reason they rushed to pretend it was something fairly harmless like peepee).

Doc Blase''s avatar

How many thousand people died due to his lies about COVID and vaccinations?

HulitC's avatar

Supposedly he’s suggested to his advisors names of people he believes should be executed… (General Milley for one.)

me three and looks like alot more are in the same boat kept afloat by a few guffaws at the gaffes and spectacle seeking autocrats. I had to laugh at the need for a drink of paint thinner. OMG. And the best coinng of 'Aunt Lydia Barrett'. Another OMG. Margaret Atwood would laugh at your ironic word twist. She's a master at irony. She wrote the Handmaid's Tale when Reagan won the presidency in 1980, when the Moral Majority went mass media, she imagined what a theocracy would be like, culling examples of real things that have happened before in various cultures and histories of the world. None of the cruel impositions she portrayed on human freedom were fictional, only the storytelling.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

She also said she used the People of Praise term "handmaiden" and one other cult for inspiration.

bruce somers's avatar

I’m exhausted from the sheer audacity of these people. Maybe it’s the heat, I dunno. There’s a rumor that handmaiden Amy might be rethinking her Uber conservative approach. Probably just a rumor. Mmmm! Paint thinner!!😆😆

Susan Niemann's avatar

Jeff is a genius!! 😂😂😂

Hey really, don't inject bleach and don't drink paint thinner.

Kaye Stone's avatar

It's okay, Kathleen. ❤️ No safety instructions needed here. ❤️ Only MAGA need warning ⚠️ labels. 😁😅😉

Kathleen Weber's avatar

Kaye Stone's avatar

I think you have to inject 💉 the bleach.

Rick Calegari's avatar

That's like wannabe emperor anus lips talking about adultery and then you throw in Bobo rub a pud into the mix, you got hypocrisy for the defeat. These despicable turds have flushed the separation of church and state down the shitter and have the audacity to preach what they don't and won't practice. When you see the orange talking turd praising the 10 Commandments, that pretty much says it all.

"Emperor anus lips" this wins the Intar-nets for today, damn.

We’re definitely in a new age whereby the media is all giddy handing the microphone to these monsters who insult us with their blatant hypocrisy and then wonder how they became so powerful. Jeff Christofascist Landry is going to have a tough time laying that BS all over New Orleans, as he is desperately trying to do. Love the wave across the Internet making extreme fun of him, State 47th in education some say ought to be posting ABCs instead and that he's posting every single commandment Trump has broken over and over and over and over again. But what a great movie. It was supposed to only *be* a movie.

But now it's reality.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

The author said he thought it would take roughly a hundred years to get there, he was shocked we managed it in twenty.

Darrell Smith's avatar

The criminal AG of Texass Paxton is pissed that Landry beat him to it. The poor girl who passed out is a sign from God, Landry. Some people think that Louisiana would be better served with something else due to being 48th in graduation and dead last (50th) in quality of life. Quality of life is what the people of Louisiana want, not religion pushed down their throats for political purposes.

We are all sick of the Returds.

bruce somers's avatar

They have 18.7 poverty rate, only Mississippi is worse,he thinks religious zealism might distract from that.

arne link's avatar

Yeah, the fainting incident was just theatre. I predict we will be seeing more of that. Old time religion has used it for many years.

Monnina's avatar

Agree that bad theatre is the MO of these malicious God Botherers, but I don’t think this was orchestrated. That child had a haunted, grey skinned, gone absent look of the abused.

arne link's avatar

I really couldn't see it that clearly. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Monnina's avatar

Gosh. Was not offended. You are quite right to point out their manipulative fakery and it was taking place in the forefront as that poor child collapsed. Shocking that these self identifying ‘caring’ Xtians chose to ignore her and carried on grandstanding instead 🐈‍⬛

Joey Jobaa's avatar

I agree with Jeff. She probably hadn’t eaten all day. And just like the felon, Landry completely ignored A CHILD FAINTING right behind him.

Mary Schweitzer's avatar

I have a condition that causes me to pass out if I stand for 10-20 minutes. It’s called Neurally Mediated Hypotension (NMH) and is a form of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome(POTS). When J’ve been standing for a while, suddenly my systolic will plummet, then my heart races to get blood up to my head. When that doesn’t work, my body gets me down on the ground as fast as it can - I faint. It’s been happening since I was 14. There is treatment, tho I still keep an eye on my pulse when standing a long time or in the heat. If the girl does this a second time, she needs to see a doctor (one who knows about it).

Doc Blase''s avatar

"Slain in the spirit" goes the dogma.

Eileen's avatar

Don’t you love turning down aid for the suffering? Remember the Tom Cotton complaint about poor people who have iPhones? Well, “Let them eat cake” is no longer appropriate. In the “I don’t vote yes for assistance unless it’s underwritten by bribes” GOP, the message issuing from the black window Expeditions rolling past the trailer parks is “Let them dumpster dive.”

DonP's avatar

The gentleman is wrong about only two, and that's because "Thou shalt not bear false witness" has a direct correlation in perjury laws, because that's pretty much what it's been interpreted as meaning. Do not lie in a judicial proceeding.

AS for the shitheads who say "We're pro-life!!", I really wish someone in the news media would grow the balls to ask, "If you're so prolife why are you willing to let children starve? Why won't you accept the money from the Federal Government for the SEBT program? I mean, since you're so prolife and all?"

Of course the stupid answer is "We don't want their parents to become reliant on the government." Which of course should only be followed by "Which government and why? The State government who they rely on for things like education, roads, school bus transportation, and all the other things provided by state funding? Or the Federal government? And if the latter, why not? Is the state afraid of the competition?"

I'm so sick of these phony Christians, I'm at the point of wanting to simply punch each and every one of them in their smug, self-righteous faces.

I still say we should deed them the tip of Texas, centrally located, up against Mexico. Let them have their Theocracy, but make them build it from scratch, no military bases, or petroleum reserves. Have you seen the photos of women in Iran before the ayatollahs? Didn’t Margaret Atwood say that The Handmaid’s Tale is supposed to be a cautionary tale, not a handbook?

Dee Whitman's avatar

First, I'm very sorry about your losses -- that's sad and utterly unfair.

I have a theory about scump: He's the equivalent of a major cardiac event that forces a person to re-evaluate AND CHANGE their habits. The US has been screwing around for far too long, giving lip service to notions of equality without implementing it truly and across the board. In a cosmic sense, that's why he' still alive. (Rationally it's bc his family has genes that protect them from lots of ill health.)

But now the US is facing even more and even bigger stressors, in the form of fallout from 40+ years of ruinous, only-the-rich-win economic policies AND the destruction from the climate crisis. Are we going to act, or perish? It pains me to know that, even if we act, we're going to get a lot worse before we get better at all -- but at least scump et al. have finally opened the eyes of some who were previously blase or apathetic or too hedonistic to care. Democracy is hanging by a thread; having a habitable planet is no longer a given. Act or perish.

PS: I too refuse to cap the initial letter of the surname of those who deserve no respect, such as certain "justices" (hahahahahaha) on the SC.

Joey Jobaa's avatar

A token of good news about the U.S. carbon dioxide consumption. The percentage has decreased 20% since 2005 (source NPR). In 2023 the decrease was 2.7%. Not enough to hit targets so just one more reason in a thousand to keep Dems in office.

Ok, if you want your kids to have religion, take them to church, synagogue! Mosque, whatever. The Ten Commandments are original Jewish laws. Only two commandments came from Jesus: love your neighbors as yourself, and treat other people as you want to be treated. In sum, be kind and loving. It’s impossible to be kind when you’re pious, and keeping food and medicine from people who need it. Another thing Jesus said: “Feed My People”. They can’t legislate being kind, and obviously can’t practice that themselves. These basically good commandments are found in all major religions and cultures. Be a nice person, and vote for Biden so we don’t have cruel king FF as our master.

Timothy Fifer's avatar

The fainting girl brought back memories. I fainted in church several times mainly due to the stultifying bullshit in the air. When I was 15, I finally said enough, not going to church anymore. Ugh. Religious zealots are such a scourge.

Dee Whitman's avatar

Per Snopes, Gandhi probably didn't say something often attributed to him: "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."

But fear not, bc according to Gizmodo, "A similar quote appears to be from an Indian philosopher named Bara Dada, brother of Rabindranath Tagore. The full quote from Dada appears to be from the mid-1920s: 'Jesus is ideal and wonderful, but you Christians, you are not like him.' "

I have no words for this…..as if!

My commandments:

Thou shall not be an asshole

Thou shall not be a racist nor bigot

Thou shall not be a spouse abuser they’re not your property

Thou shall not abuse a child, see above

Thou shall help the poor

Thou shall not keep coming to others homes to force religion

Thou shall not murder (which btw includes the death penalty)

Thou shall be an incel if thou can’t be nice, polite, bathe, brush teeth

and not expect sex for a meal

Can we slide, Thou shalt not be a fucking hypocrite, in there somewhere? Better add a footnote saying consult a dictionary.

The late Alice Miler (a world-renowned psychoanalyst who wrote about common, less-overt forms of parental abuse -- psychological abuse that was consciously unintentional but was no less debilitating for that) wrote that "Honor thy father and thy mother" wouldn't be necessary if our parents treated us the way we deserve to be treated -- with compassion, respect, understanding, tenderness, empathy, etc. -- because we would naturally treat our parent as they have treated us. We would know no other way.

I'm not dissing people's parents, who are doing the best they can, nor was she; she was underscoring that we can't teach our children what we don't know, and that dysfunction travels down the generations whether it's overt (physical and/or sexual violence) or less-overt (belittlement, bullying, etc.). When people like Landry and Bobblehead support posting the commandments, they unintentionally give us a snapshot of the screwed-up authoritarian homes they grew up in. 'Course, all of their actions give us that snapshot, but I'm just saying...

Great thought. One thing becomes clear: If you don't want your kids to be any smarter than you, home school them.

Not in all cases. There are resources available for home-schooling. My daughter and her husband (both PhD's) home-schooled my grandchildren because they did not want them going to NC Christofascist public schools! Both grandchildren are college-educated and earning decent salaries.

Well said. I do know people who home-schooled their kids with great success. I was thinking of the limited information types.

Which obviously was the right thing for them to do. But too many home-school as a way to keep their children ignorant of , well everything.

Did you see the xtian home schoolers, that sent their daughter to a public school? They realized how little they actually knew when they tried to help her with her second grade homework! So they are learning about the world along with her.

Back in the old days. just over 100 years ago, when child labor was absolutely necessary for family survival, the commandment, “honor your father and mother" made a great deal of sense. Even today, I am well aware of many families where the parents are expected to run a hotel that caters to the preferences of the children. Children do need to be taught to see the family as a community that works together for the happiness and welfare of all.

There's also the passage that says "parent's don't provoke your children." I think there is an attempt in the bible to help us balance our lives and be productive, serve each other, yada, yada. But this pick and choose that they market is meaningless and dangerous.
