They are all miserable. We are all miserable. That is what MAGA stands for. Misery Accepting Ginormous A--hole!

I have a new Trump management idea. It is for Dems to balance the carrot with the stick and throw Trump some praise from time to time. I think everyone can praise Trump for screwing over the Red States as much as he is doing to the Blue States. Remember California's fires. Fires and floods is what the Donster is going to be remembered for in his second term, like in his first term Covid took over people's minds, and people got tired of the constant frightening chaos.

Some Americans have short memories about what living in constant chaos is like. I imagine that this time around MAGAs are in part turning on Trump over the Epstein files, because it sounds more legitimate to complain about that conspiracy than to complain about the fact that the person they voted for is doing exactly what is written in Project 2025, which none of them have bothered to read. Nowhere does it say save the Red States from all of the trouble we are going to cause. Now they are learning that FEMA Is not going to rescue anyone, they better have the local funds to do that.

VAFO Vote And Find Out! We can praise him for giving citizens in Red and Blue states equal opportunity to die from natural disasters. We can praise him for having the right economic priorities with our federal tax dollars that we are letting him fund. There are three:

1) billionaires

2) the military

3)ICE

I only want to pay state taxes. My state has a big enough GDP to take care of me. Let someone propose this and try to get bipartisan support. No Federal dollars coming anymore.

All of the Billionaires dollars going to them in the form of tax cuts and business subsidies.

All of the military dollars going to private companies that make military equipment

All of the ICE money going to make all of our products more expensive as we have to pay for them, but the people picked up and put in prison will be used as slave labor and the people who employed them before will be paying the private prisons to employ them because Jim Crow and slave labor is where it is at.

Instead, countries like Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Switzerland mostly pay local taxes and not so much federal. They are not miserable. They get into the lists of top 10 places to live and most happy.

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/happiest-countries-in-the-world

Get us out of our misery. We want to be happy too.

Sweden has a national 25% GST on quite a few things (groceries are largely exempt, though). When I lived there, I paid 37½% national tax on my income, and 1% local. The other Nordics are also not that big, and I suspect such things are organised similarly there.

Those things being said... The people are not hard to get along with, and they tend to be very egalitarian. The environment is very clean, even in & around Stockholm. Medical care is MUCH cheaper and easier to obtain than in the US.

Winter is a good time to use that 25 or 30 days paid vacation to escape the snow and lack of daylight, if those aren't your thing. Summer anywhere in the Nordics is pretty fab.

Who knows, I might end up going back.

Kristi Noem's appearance on ABC seemed like an evil kind of surreal. I have been speaking almost with my son who lives in Austin. People in Austin. and in other areas near the flood zone, are reminded daily through local news sources of how many people are still missing, of those who survived, and of those who didn't. The rains in Austin did not sweep people away, but they flooded streets badly. enough that some people abandoned their cars. Residents there probably feel more intensely connected with victims of the flood farther south. And then, to see Kristi Norm on ABC yesterday, wearing a plastic face devoid of emotion or care, was chilling. Her eyes glistened a bit.. didn't buy it. It was all sound bites and excuses.

Jeff, this read like watching a dumpster fire in 4K—if the dumpster were FEMA, and the fire was started by someone mistaking cruelty for competence.

The fact that Kristi Noem gutted emergency response mid-crisis, then strutted out to brag about it like she deserves a disaster management trophy, is almost too on-the-nose. Like satire gave up and just printed the transcript.

Your rundown isn’t just scathing—it’s a case study in what happens when cosplay governance meets actual suffering. Phones ringing off the hook while Noem fumbles the budget like it's a cattle pageant is a perfect snapshot of spiritual rot in red, white, and performative blue.

And that quote from Kerr County? Peak irony. Rejecting sirens to own the libs, then drowning in silence. We’re not watching policy—we’re watching theology.

I lived in the New Orleans area back in '05 when Katrina struck. I watched in horror as people who sought shelter in the Superdome and Convention Center begged for water and food in the sweltering heat. My heart broke as I watched the Parish President for St. Bernard Parish (working-class county where the hurricane made landfall) literally crying and begging the federal government for assistance days after the storm. Then I saw Bush finally leave his ranch in Texas to go to John McCain's birthday celebration and a campaign rally in AZ before finally offering any assistance. I saw him meet with the GOP governor of MS and exclude the Gov of LA and mayor of NOLA--both Democrats, mind you. Then Bush made his famous, "Doin' a heck of a job, Brownie" to the inept FEMA director (who got the gig because of his connections to the Bush family rather than his background in emergency management).

The 20th anniversary of Katrina is next month and I live in North Texas. What I'm seeing out of Kerr County shows me that things have gotten much worse in those two decades.
