this just in: Donny's agreed to pause Mexican tariffs for one month. there are no details yet, but I'll bet good money that:

1. Donny caved because he's shit at negotiating, and

2. the GOP and the press will spin this as a massive win for Donny, just as they did when he caved to Colombia about treatment of deportees

Natalie, yes, agreed. I submit for your consideration a Batman-themed defestration: Batman sneakily binds a CF foot with a wire. He pushes CF off a window, but just before the terrorized F hits the ground, he's stopped, suddenly rises back up to the window, then kicked down again. Rinse and repeat till Batman loses interest, detaches the foot link and CF makes contact with the ground. Like a game of cat and mouse.

I work in IT for the state (one of the larger social services agencies) -- not an exalted position, but I am a formal rep for my agency within the overall state IT org, and known. The executive director for my agency is pushing back on some of the restrictions Abbott wants to impose now that the pandemic is over -- if I protest what's going on politically, I would not put it past Abbott (or Paxton, or Dan Patrick) to use it as an excuse to punish the agency. Things are bad enough already.

And yes, they really are that fucking petty. These are some pretty poor excuses for human beings. DFPS (who handles foster care) is taking the brunt of the gov's mistreatment right now, which also makes me crazy -- Abbott took over direct mgmt of them a few years ago and while he won't hand it back over to HHS (because he's punishing them, of course) he's doing fuck-all about some pretty horrific stuff. If I were at liberty to throw a public fit, I would have started there.

If I'm noticed, it's also easy enough to see that most of my large family is Hispanic and maybe even that a couple of close relatives are LGBTQ (one of those is still in grade school). I know that this is straight out of the fascist playbook, but the calculations don't change. I protested getting into Iraq in 2003, marched at the Capitol in 2017 (with my daughter), wrote a shit-ton of letters and emails after the GQP took over the state & never thought about consequences. But this IS who the guys in charge are.

And nothing is going to sway Abbott/Paxton/Patrick about Musk -- Musk has a LOT of investment in Texas now and is leading something of a tech boom. Tesla is a few miles south of here, and another major company + company town is going in the next county over; there's SpaceX on the Gulf coast and more. Abbott (and Paxton) do not give a shit if he's planning to take over the US govt; I think they'd be just as happy if he did; maybe some of those billions would rub off on them...

We're getting out of this state when I retire next year; until then, I'm hors de combat.

Excellent take and it highlights with ridicule the mass psychosis. Truth and ridicule are two potent weapons against the mass psychosis. I too look for a way to extract the country from the mass psychosis. Few stop to think about the root cause of this dilemma, but Carl Jung understood it well. Mass psychosis is the advent of deluded people. You see those questioned at a Trump rally and you say “How can they be that deluded?” And then you forget about that delusional interview you just watched with YOUR OWN EYES. You do not do the next step: add it all up. It adds up to Mass Psychosis. You are led by a psychopathic neo-fascist that has deluded masses of people.

Ye aulde delusions of grandeur. The eye on the pyramid is bleeding the heart of Jesus as a digital asset. The same old story, the temptation of Christ: the lust of the world, and the pride of life in full array. Get thee behind me Elon, the Diabolical. The next steps will go for the jugular. Threatening and terrorizing of the population (financially, judicially, militarily, and legislatively) random accidental assassinations, avoidable deaths, more mass shootings, suicides, or televised executions, and more of the same pooh poohing press coverage. Also I heard the dastard is cutting a deal with Apple CEO iPhone text hookups to Starlink. not so distant future: Absolutely no privacy. We'll be forced to our knees Winston lovers in no time without a dime. No FDIC, the Crooks!!!

We're living in a nightmare. mElon is digging through the Treasury computers with kid hackers. The Tangerine Terrorist still thinks tariffs are paid by other countries. DEI - which they code for "Black people" - is the new Red Menace; unfortunately, the reality is that DEI includes the poor, veterans, pregnant women, parents, the disabled -- you know, most of America.

Yeah, he told us what he was going to do from day one. The biggest problem, to me, is that Congress can put their foot down about this and almost all of them are doing little more than posting outrage on social media like that changes things.

What scares me the most is that even if TTT is forced out, Vance is not going to be any better. He'll just be less crazy about it. Maybe.

I have been using Nazi Germany as a model for tRumpworld... we went from 1933 to 1938 in 2 weeks. Canada is the new Austria and the Anschluss has been put out in front of god and everybody. Is Greenland the new Sudetenland or the new Poland? We've got a cast of psychopaths and thieves running the executive branch and Congress is effectively not responsible for anything. The SCOTUS is largely bought and paid for by the Oligarchy. We are watching the death of the American Experiment.

Expand full comment
MJ's avatar

It's more than just Nazi Germany.

Musk - and possibly Vance - can be more closely correlated to Saddam Hussein. Hussein quietly helped stage a coup for the government, then started purges and grabbing power, bit by bit. One day he basically said to their version of Congress, "OK, I'm in charge now" and that was that, because they knew if they spoke up against them they'd be purged, too.

We're doomed, and the government isn't doing anything about it but crying on social media.

I woke up today with a brand new thought on our data breach. I'm looking on the brightside...Just think about the "supremes" they now have their info out there...controlled by the muskrat. Dump and his hidden tax returns...mitch the bitch and the rest....It makes me happy just thinking about...Could this lead to impeachment ?? Got to think they aren't too pleased right either. Arrest and deport the muskrat.

I agree with you. As a former cop and ex military, that hair especially is too much. For starters, those long extensions look ridiculous, especially on a 53 year old. I've always had longish hair and when you have your uniform on, your hair has to be pulled back. You never see women who actually have the right to wear a military/LE uniform have their hair down like that. Another aging Barbie Doll plastic wanna be like Melania, Kim G and Lauren Sanchez.

I agree. I mean, I read other newsletters (!) but I always find this site to be the overall best on a day-in day-out basis, precisely because of the wit and downright humour that gets equal share with the most salient points, and the righteous anger. Because when you're basically out of power for the foreseeable future, mocking and showing disrespect for the people in charge really is the best way to let their followers know that their taunts and power plays aren't demoralizing the rest of us. Keep it up Jeff, keep it up and your readership will take heart from it. Get pissed, but also MOCK whenever the opportunity presents itself in real life.
