Trump has never in his public life done anything to make us doubt: he&Epstein had a close personal relationship. There’s plenty of evidence Trump speaks disrespectfully of women. Yamiche Alcindor, I as an American,I apologize for the President’s classless way of speaking to you.

Trump did admit to liking younger women. He walked into the dressing room unannounced at the pageant he owned. In fact I can’t think of any public act that Trump has done that causes doubt about this card.

I allow him 1 star for not committing a child sex crime, but that is all. He was the President, and she was an intern. Hardly a reasonable equal workplace consent situation. As a woman in my 30s during those times, when women were gradually being accepted as having mental abilities equivalent to (or better than) men, I was disgusted and appalled. Equal rights for women was supposed to be on the Democratic agenda, right? Had I voted for Clinton? Yes. Were his overall policies for the country better? Yes. Was I still angry about his behavior? Yes.

Expand full comment
Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

I wasn't so angry at him since I'd worked for an attorney who had that same level of intense charisma which brought women flocking to him. He too tended to reciprocate, even as a friend - although so many wanted to take it further. It wasn't fun being me at 25, long-haired, long-legged (and having people point out that fact as if it was a given - and naturally ASS-U-ME that I too 'must be' one of 'his' fawning females purely because of my looks). HOWEVER, about Clinton, when I read Monica talking about her plan to 'go to Washington to get her Presidential knee-pads' it pretty much changed my opinion of HIS full culpability. YES, he should have known better, but don't forget that horrid Linda Tripp (since changed her face, her name and then passed away, afaik) - one of MY family members knew of her since their kids attended the same school...she was a holdover from the previous administration, biggest mistake they made was not kicking her out. A nasty human in her community in real life, HATED him and made no bones about setting out to take him AND Hillary down. Nothing would have reached the level it did without her deliberately using a silly, naive girl with a crush whose entire life was ruined because of this. Tripp didn't give a flying fuck what happened to Lewinsky which bothered me enormously. I'd watched (and very nearly had people treat ME similarly) that same scenario play out with other young women in real life. It would have ended, blown over (pun unintended) had it not been for Tripp and Gingrich. YES, he was a cad but certainly not the first and to his mind his was a white lie TO protect his reputation, wife and child, not an 'impeachable offense' remotely close to the World issues he was then dealing with OR the current LIAR who has the intellect and morals of a slug. I certainly lost respect for him but not at all for Hillary, SHE had to put on a brave face and soldier through - and she DID!

Expand full comment
MargaretT's avatar

Yes, it was a different time, and light flirtatious behavior was interpreted differently then in many situations. I was part of a somewhat similar scene in those years. I am reactive because I had entered graduate school in those years as the third female student in the department. Would get strange questions from fellow male students asking why I was there (“Same reason as you - I am fascinated by science and good at it!”); faculty advisor would take the male students out to watch porn while I babysat his kids (he was a happily married man), etc. The department was aware; considered it fine. I wanted to be a hero, but left after 3 years, - had a very successful career in a technology field that did not exist previously. I get it - appearance made a huge difference then! Thank you for additional information. What a shame about Monica, and others, men and women, who assisted. Hillary had to be strong and tough - voted for her!

Thank you, you have framed it perfectly, for those of us who lived through it, things are a bit more nuanced, I support Monica in her sexuality, she made the decision to pursue him, and yes he should have known better. And somehow they managed to taint Gore and Hillary for her decision to pursue him, and his sex-addict's choice to indulge.

If you're talking about Clinton, let's drop the old Democratic habit of conceding 'Of course we'd throw our own overboard at the slightest provocation," while they concede nothing. Clinton likely has little to do with Epstein's sex trafficking network and was probably a social friend. Dd he know? Perhaps. But Clinton had a type and it was NOT a delicate adolescent. Monica was his youngest at 21 and she was a fully developed woman, who despite the power imbalance, knew what she was doing. She wasn't 14.

I know we do this to virtue signal and protect ourselves from any accusations, but it won't work with today's GOP who consider Democrats innately evil. To them, we will always be, as Stephen Miller says, an "extremist organization" and "danger to America." This type of thinking on our part is why we tossed Al Franken out for a little smutty humor, while they defend Trump, the rapist.

The higher "executive functioning skills" aren't fully realized until around the age of *26*, so yeah....a 22 yr old is not that much closer to adulthood than a *16* yr old is, especially when it comes to not fully understanding the potential consequences of one's own actions.

The ugliness of the power dynamic on display there really made me question just what kind of people these two were.

When my Right Wing kid brother kept accusing Bill Clinton of being a "rapist" starting in 1992, I told him he needed to stop listening to Flush Limpdick so much. It must be the narcissists version of a BIG BLACK CRAYON. 🤔😬

The Turd’s asshat followers have no trouble swallowing all of the half baked lies and bullshit made up by Trump cronies about any Democrat but whenever real evidence is staring them in the face that Turd is not the man they think at home….. wait! They still swallow the same bullshit lies that Trump’s cronies use to wave it all away. I guess bullshit tastes really good when you’re MAGA

View from the outside: There was a glimmer of hope when the rumours that Old Orange Shitweasel had finally kicked the bucket, only to be dashed onto the rocks of despair when he rose from the swamp to continue his reign of batshit craziness. Over here in both the UK and Europe it's sad that we only see the USA reduced to a laughing stock, fronted by a man with the charisma of a shit stained bedsheet! It's perfectly obvious that he and his GOP morons are going to do everything they possibly can to interfere with the mid-terms so he can cling on to power for the rest of his term and we sincerely hope that those elections are heavily scrutinised. When he comes over here, where he is as popular as a fart in a space suit, for his state visit there will be a collective effort to really fuck his shit up. We ares practicing booing already.
