and of course five minutes after I published this post, I found something that would have been great to include.

"Filipino fast food chain Jollibee was seen serving free food to people that have been affected by the LA wildfires. Love this."

contrast that to the Space Nazi's stingy fuckery

I recently donated to relief efforts. I think I spent more than Elump and I didn’t need to use a dumpster truck to do it.

SPW's avatar

Same here. Donated to WCK. Hosé Andres did such gargantuan work in my Helene hit hometown that it only seemed right to continue his work where it’s desperately needed now and I have nowhere near Mush’s resources. He may as well stay in FL as do this useless mess.

Michelle Kenoyer's avatar

I donated to WCK as well José Andrés is a living saint.

kdsherpa's avatar

I have used those same words to describe him.

And for some context, here in Hawaii we have around 23,000 undocumented Filipinos who are hard working family oriented people. They send money back to their families in the Philippines to help support them. If they are deported it will hurt them, hurt Hawaii and hurt their families. They are not criminals, they add to the richness of Hawaiiʻs culture.

Linda McCaughey's avatar

Oh, thank you so much for that! I love the diversity, the colorful heritages, the musical languages! So very tired of the unnecessary WASP cruelty.

Denise Donaldson's avatar

I realize this is anecdotal, but here goes. I used to be second in command of a catering company that was based at a hotel. One of the guys in the hotel's accounting department was Filipino, and his wife worked in the housekeeping department. They both sent as much money as they could back to their family in the Philippines. The guy picked up extra money with us doing catering gigs after hours, and he was a total delight to be around. VERY hard worker, completely reliable, always available even at the last minute. I threw him all the hours I could. Wish I'd had a dozen like him. All those who come to our country with the same type of ethic should be welcomed!

PJ Schuster's avatar

My regular handyman José is undocumented, I got connected with him bc his undocumented Mom was my housekeeper for months. She returned to Mexico because her father was very ill, so before she left, she introduced me to her 30 yr old son & told me if I needed help with anything, to call him.

He is so nice & he works his ass off. His regular job is home construction, he also has evening & weekend work caring for a ranchers horses, gentling young horses to saddle, & then squeezes in random handyman jobs.

He has 2 children who were born here & I don’t know if his ex-wife is a US citizen or not, I didn’t ask him. He posts videos of him taking his 2 boys to do fun things when he has them on the weekends. That would be really awful for those boys to be deprived of their very loving father. I hope it doesn’t happen.

kdsherpa's avatar

Not awful. Sinful, deeply deeply sinful.

longtimebirdwatcher's avatar

Undocumented are just as good as any other immigrants. Here they line up at a special block to get picked up for jobs. I never see any other unemployed do this. And the city checks to make sure they get paid.

James Starr's avatar

Yes! They are good people....Our glorious dear leader is so ignorant though and uneducated..he might get the wild idea that he is going to invade Hawaii and take over the Islands and make it the 52nd state LOL......

Cathy Wray's avatar

Maui, I love your attitude!!!💙

longtimebirdwatcher's avatar

As a resident of the Bay Area, I love immigrants. They work and they have great food. Lumpia forever!

Douglas Paul Truhlar's avatar

But do you have any Minihune relations?

Nancy Potter's avatar

I know exactly where that cybertruck is parked (because it's the parking lot of a grocery store.) There were two grassroots aid stations set up within 100 feet of that parking spot, not created or funded by billionaires, which had significantly more supplies available for folks coming by. (And doesn't a starlink connection require a deposit, subscription, etc?)

Susan Bauer's avatar

In my part of Missouri that link cost $120.00/month

KL Pierce's avatar

Not including the $400 set-up. A lot of Hurricane Helene survivors in NC got scammed. They were told Starlink was “free.” Nope. It’s just another grift.

Linda McCaughey's avatar

Not much chance that Elon will give anyone anything free....

SPW's avatar

Yep. That’s what Helene survivors found out after it was too late.

Hannah's avatar

Yup. It's another con. People in NC were told it was free, but the invisible fine print made it very pricey.

Tim Trew's avatar

Elon’s sending exploding trucks and Pringles while the World Central Kitchen is already on the ground feeding first responders and the public while organizing local food trucks to aid in the relief efforts.

They should get the Medal of Honor! Always doing the right thing better than any other, they are going to heaven if anybody is!

José Andres did get a nice medal award from the President last week. I was so glad to see him honored.

PJ Schuster's avatar

It wasn’t the Medal of Honor, but it was a nice recognition

Rhonda Buckland's avatar

He got the Presidents medal of Freedom , highest civilian medal…

I need to send a few hundred to WCK, one of my favorite charitable orgs. That’s who I donated to after Helene

I didn't know there was a Filipino fast food chain. It would do well in our little Central Valley CA town.

Hannah's avatar

Hey! I'm from Easton, or was. Just south of Fresno on hwy 41.

Andrea's avatar

World Central Kitchen is there too, because Chef Andres is a literal saint. If you're looking for a good cause to donate to, they are amazing.

And I'd be able to fill my Jeep with 10 times more stuff than what's in that Cybertruck in about 5 minutes. What an asshat.

Kimmy's avatar

My mom had a Pinto. Luckily she was hit head on in it with her two sisters. A few broken legs and lots of bruises but thankfully no explosions. At least the Pinto had a known weakness, the cybertruck is far more of a wildcard when it comes to explodability.

It was my second thought, too. Even when the cops were saying it was intentional because of all the fireworks and gas cans in the truck, I was posting that it just sounded like a redneck camper, and that the fire probably started in the batteries and set off all that stuff accidentally. It took the suicide posts from the guy to convince me otherwise.

“were you born with, say, a congenital heart defect? sucks to be you, bro. in your next life, make better birth choices.” My granddaughter was born with a congenital heart defect. The bill for surgery was over $200,000. Fortunately, they have insurance. Why is the question of coverage even discussed? Everyone should have it just because they’re living human beings.

Stephen Brady's avatar

Rethugs think that healthcare is to be earned. Wait until they get done axing Medicaid, Medicare, the VA, and ACA. Most docs are conservative people who will vote for lower taxes every time... FAFO!

Victoria Wilson's avatar

Yes and Repukes have gold standard, taxpayer funded health insurance.I think I should have the same insurance as my Senators do.They work for me.It is only fair.

Susan Keefer's avatar

There was a doctor living next door to me. When the battle for the ACA started, my neighbor was having a fit that President Obama was a SOCIALIST! 🙄

Eileen's avatar

My neighbor is a doctor and given the nightmare of dealing with insurance companies, he would just assume go to universal healthcare single payer.

Michelle Kenoyer's avatar

My PCP for 12 years was a huge proponent of single-payer health coverage. She was also a liberal and a Black woman, and Black women have been holding up this country with all their might, even though we don't deserve it.

Susan Keefer's avatar

That’s quite different from the doctors in my neighborhood.

Good for him.

Hannah's avatar

All of my docs have been proponents of universal healthcare. Now all they seem to be able to do is help me navigate the system as best they can. Sometimes they just apologize for this shit.

Deborah Hunter's avatar

He was worrying about his reimbursement from the ACA versus private insurance. Always follow the money.

longtimebirdwatcher's avatar

Maybe they'd like to work for HMOs. A lot of doctors in the Bay Area prefer Kaiser.

Sheri's avatar

But will they have any patients? Trust me… they know how play the system.

Terri Nighswonger's avatar

Oh no the doctors will not have patients. I was as good as dead when my mom begrudgingly took me to the town doctor. I am sure she was worried about the repercussions if she didn’t. He was a young doctor gave me EVERYTHING he had. Knew I should be in the hospital but my mother screamed NO at his suggestion of that. Thanks to him I am alive. Only he and I know how fortunate I was to be in his brief care. I have always wished I could have thanked him.

But no, the medical profession will fall on its butt under this asshole’s regime. Along with all good things in our country. People in like circumstances as I will die.

MzNicky in East Jesus, TN's avatar

My son was inpatient for over three months for high dose chemo and stem cell transplants. I had one statement show up for $925,000 and the other for $947,000. A separate statement for $127,000 came much later. None of that includes the $680,000 in other costs he has accumulated from his care. He’s four years old and already accrued nearly $3 million dollars in medical care. Someone explain to me how that is sustainable. Luckily we have great insurance but holy shit seeing those statements is mind blowing.

Same same for control of the Panama Canal. As much as I despise Trump and his minions, China does have a vested interest in controlling or at least protecting shipping through the PC. WRT Greenland, global warming has and will continue to alter the flow of trade and military force atop the globe, something we’re woefully prepared to deal with. Canada also applies. How this plays out remains to be seen; I fear how the POTUS will respond. We all should.

Patricia Williamson's avatar

The reason Trump and his wealthy friends, like Bezos and Zuckerberg, want Greenland is for the minerals Greenland has control of. They want to drill baby, drill. Its all about the money, but I think that Russia and China also have their eyes on it. It might be a really good fight.

Even personal friendships have ended because we have completely different values and I don’t want to be anywhere around them. My husband has some relatives that I nod at. None of them are invited into my home. They are persona non grata, and I don’t care if they think I’m a bitch because I just can’t stand to look at their evil, stupid faces anymore. That goes for every single republican in the state government of Texas. They are all traitors as far as I’m concerned and I would not shake any of their hands if they came right up to me. These people are evil, and the ones who aren’t are so fucking stupid and/or greedy, it’s no use to speak to them so I don’t.

Gina's avatar

Deborah Hunter's avatar

By not paying attention to what was really important. GOP are turtles. Took them 50 years to get Roe vs Wade overturned. They patiently plotted their course. Dems are sprinters. We don't sit back and plot for decades. We want immediate results and we are not a cohesive group like the GOP. We had several times when we could have put laws in place that felons couldn't run, do something about the Electoral College, etc. We had a naive, it'll never happen attitude. And it did happen and here we are. If we ever get control of the government and don't pass every law to prevent this from happening again, then we don't deserve our place in government.

Lynn Horsky's avatar

Yes, who knew our government would turn into a protection racket run by a mob Boss who can run his criminal organization and steal the treasury right out in the open and no law in the land can stop him. Ok. Where's that Jewish space laser zapper when you really need it.

Despite his billions, he's no match against adults and can be slapped down by the likes of Count Scrofula. When he stupidly posted on X that looting was legitimate in CA under Newsom, the Governor shot back (paraphrase) "Why are you promoting looting by spreading this lie? Do something helpful." So out come the party favors in Tesla Tonka-Toy Trucks.

Sharon, Newsome has the gloves off. Last night, lots of reports on him/his staff rapidly pushing back on SM lies, blaming, etc. There's a Fire FAQ up -- his office so on top of good reliable info.

Yes. I think we should all take the gloves off.

It's even worse than I thought...but I can't disagree with your comment!

Pretty much nobody beats bannon on venom, vitriol, tenacity and endurance. And nobody has more money than musk. Let them battle it out ad nauseam (literally). We all have front row seats to the shit show.

Why was an Italian newspaper interviewing Steve Bannon? Was it because no English-language media want to get anywhere near him?

Italy elected an admirer of Mussolini as its Prime Minister, so the fascism is strong.

I would have wondered that too... well I did almost and lost interest.

Musk’s net worth has reportedly increased by $200 billion since the election. He could literally donate $200 billion to support LA and have the same approximately $200 billion + net worth he had on Election Day.

Maybe too busy searching out those minimum wage engineers though?… 🙄

Trump doesn't "shake things up" as the quisling media like to say!

He fucks things up is what he does best IMHO!
