They were so astoundingly, ill-prepared for competence, patriotism, and inspiration. Their anti-woman, anti-American rhetoric was shoved up their collective asses like a red, hot poker, eyes popping out, deranged as fuck. Ladies and Germs, your modern Republican party. Whup whup.

Bill Lawrence's avatar

You'd think that the Republicans would have learned that you don't mess with Biden after being outplayed on social security and medicare during the last SOU!

I was waiting for the SS/Medicare moment last night and Joe delivered on the border legislation! "I thought that's what you guys wanted, no? Okay, let's work TOGETHER and get 'er done." Stupid fuckers didn't know what him them.

Judie Brophy's avatar

He also bullied Republicans into denying they were planning another big tax cut to the wealthy, like he did last SOTU about cutting Medicare/ss. I wonder if they care enough about their word to stick with it. Doubt it.

Jeff referred to Britt as someone who was auditioning for Our Town! Perfect! I kept thinking while watching her sickening ‘speech’ that she sounded like a mean girl in high school who had taken some dumb acting classes and only knows how to overact while trying to bully people with a fake smile and a ‘stern’ face. What a joke!

Cathy McCarthy's avatar

She was a typecast right out of the Handmaid’s tale. And her kitchen could have been right out of the series too.

Deb's avatar

I wonder if that was the first time Britt read that little speech. She kept smiling at the wrong times 😁! Up until last night, I had thought Bobby Jindal was the worst, but I'm reevaluating!

counterlife's avatar

Pretty sure that "kitchen" was right out of a green screen.

Sooz Hall's avatar

That’s what I thought. Screaming two dimensional, and the muted greenish yellow. Ghastly.

PJ Schuster's avatar

If she had wore that dusty shade of teal, she could have been Serena giving instructions to the newest handmaiden to be assigned, Offred

Susan Kemp's avatar

Not only was she over acting in a crazy melodramatic way, the hypocrisy of a woman who is a US Senator married to a retired NFL player with a net worth of $1-6M crying about American families hurting is astounding.

Sarah #1's avatar

Standard GOP hypocrisy.

PJ Schuster's avatar

That was absolutely horrible

Cynthia Turner's avatar

She was creepy. Almost as real as AI.

Kathleen Hoiseth's avatar

Sarah! That is exactly what I said last night while watching her. Also - how many times did she rehearse that speech? It was like she was auditioning for her mean girl high school drama club. Good flipping grief!!!

Cathy McCarthy's avatar

I expected her to end her rebuttal with “under his eye” where his was 🍊💩. If she had worn a blue dress and her daughter had worn a pink scarf the would have completed the kitchen set strap out of the Handmaid’s Tale television series.

Sharon C Storm's avatar

That’s what I kept yelling at her when she was talking. “It’s your candidate who has done all those things, not Joe!”

Judie Brophy's avatar

In fact, the horrible emotionally charged and gut-wrenching event she insisted on describing in painful detail , to me and many others I’m sure, was something that happened under George W. Bush. It had no current purpose, except maybe to mislead (aka lie) listeners to believe it happened under Biden. That was no accident of misunderstanding, as she claims. She claims it should have been clear that it happened so long ago because she told us it happened to an adult associate of hers when she was 12. Did anybody else notice and do the math? She never said it had relevance today. Then, why include it in a rebuttal to Biden’s SOTU moments previous? And if it’s an outdated story, it is also irrelevant. Nobody is fooled. Either way, she was being deceitful. She can blame it on misunderstanding, but it was very obvious. That makes it even more offensive.

The GOP lies, all of them.

I bet you are right! Somewhere online is a list that has all the anti-gay republicans busted for doing what they preached against. I use to have it bookmarked but lost it when my computer crashed. There were well over a hundred, with most being small local politicians, or local prominants in the republican party.

Tess's avatar

Biden was exceptional-and needs to keep it up! Little Mikey Johnson didn’t know if he should clap or shake his head or slump further into his chair! It looked like half the time he agreed with Biden! Large Marge should have been escorted OUT the minute she opened her mouth. Yuk. And Katie Britt-oh my God——that was a helluva decision to put her in the spotlight (thanks! haha). No more Sleepy Joe!!!! yayayayayayayayayaay

Carrie Duncan's avatar

MTG should never have been allowed in wearing campaign insignia. She broke the House rules.

Judie Brophy's avatar

Nobody takes control when necessary. Since it was the rule of the congressional chamber to banish campaign paraphernalia, it should probably have been Mike Johnson who approached her ahead of time and enforced the rule.

Charlotte Thompson's avatar

He is probably afraid of her.

As soon as Alabama's other far right senator came on, the TV went off. After that amazing SOTU, my wife and I couldn't handle watching her rebuttal and the huge load of GOP horseshit that would be tossed like the former guy's endless lies. Can't wait for the first debate since Biden will no doubt rip him a new one.

counterlife's avatar

It was worth watching just for the over the top weirdness of that strange creature standing in her green screen kitchen.

PJ Schuster's avatar

I normally don’t watch the rebuttal, & didn’t intend to watch her, but 30 seconds in & I was transfixed; kind of like watching a slo-mo car crash.

It was so ghastly that I couldn’t look away. Then I discovered Jeff’s live stream commentary & then stumbled across Jessica Valenti’s live stream too

Judie Brophy's avatar

It was hardly a response speech. It sounded so generic it didn’t matter which party she was talking about. Nothing in that speech was in response to something Joe Biden said. Almost as if the response was written before they even read the speech. And no way would they have expected that they would be following such a dynamic speech. The audience was primed with positivity; her doom and gloom description of our country was such a let down. It lacked credibility. Not to mention how it disrupted my positive evening with a detailed horrendous description of that mattress room and the horrible crime committed there. I did not need that assault on my emotions. I’m an empath, a little more sensitive than some people, but I won’t forgive her for forcing me to emotionally experience that. But that sensationalism was intended to appeal to everyone’s emotions. Cheap trick, really.

RV maxima's avatar

Well, yeah. Of course it was written and canned before Biden spoke. That is something that has been growing for many State of the Union rebuttals. There miles apart now, no longer even a rebuttals but just BS.

Rick Calegari's avatar

The GOP under Trump is one big cheap trick and more. It's nothing but lies, deceit, endless BS with the usual smoke and mirrors.

🌷IntheHalloftheMtnKing's avatar

Exactly. Definite lackluster rebuttal- I turned it off.

The only thing it seems to me she was crying about were her own personal grievances that she can't keep up with the Joneses & she's not rich enough.

Rick, I immediately tuned in after SOTU to Keith Olbermann. It is irrelevant to me what Fascist/Seditionist Supporters have to say about anything.

Judie Brophy's avatar

No, I think it’s important to stay informed. You’d be amazed to learn some of the odd comments and beliefs. My mother taught me “better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.”

SeekingReason's avatar

Not in this case. These people aren’t even able to figure out fact from fiction. They are supporting a criminal of the worst kind. Their rebuttal is irrelevant. Journalists can track them. I wouldn’t dare waste my time.

Do you really think Trump will debate Biden?? I seriously doubt his campaign will encourage that, considering what a cluster f**k he creates every time he gives a speech. Biden will win any debate hands down and make Trump look even more pathetic than he already is. But it sure would be enjoyable to watch!

Ellis Weiner's avatar

I don't think Trump will agree to debate Biden. Remember, it's only March. There are six months to go before October. Six months of additional Trump deterioration, financial pressures, court pressures, etc. So THAT'll be fun. It'll also be fun to see what Melania does by then.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

Well she renegotiated her prenup, for the third, or is it the fourth time, so she probably will only show up at the end of the campaign like when she stayed in NY without him last time.

Joanne Filipo's avatar

Nope, he’s chicken shit and doesn’t have the balls to get on stage next to President Obama 🤭oops, I mean Biden! 😂

I hope the need for that kill switch is as self-evident to the organizers as it is to Biden Supporters. Biden should insist on that. Of course there will be claims the they cut him off when they didn’t like what he was saying, not the fact that he was speaking out of turn. I’m past caring if he approves in most cases.

steve robertshaw's avatar

Yeah, at this point (8 years in) who gives a sh*t what Hannity or some other Fox Noise mouthpiece rants about in response. It seems clear to me that any person who watches Fox or regularly "follows" some rightwing podcaster or twittler or you tube personality is already a lost cause, and the Hannity's of this world are just preaching to the choir. They developed their audience, its reach isn't expanding even though it's large. There are far more people out there that don't pay the slightest bit of attention to these online or cable ranters. Same goes for ubiquitous rightwing talk radio. The daily listeners are the same people that sought those stations out many years ago, their audience is not expanding.

CreakyKnees's avatar

In most of the previous debates, across the board, the moderators failed to enforce the rules that were agreed upon. If Biden agrees to debate. and they don't kill Trump's mic when talking out of turn, Biden walks off refusing to dignify the rantings of a clown.

Chris Hierholzer's avatar

Joe knocked it out of the park. The right speech at the right time. All of us fans knew what he was going to talk about. But the emotion and force of his speaking made us proud and reaffirmed that he was wholly committed to Democracy.

Patris's avatar

Fleisher, a notorious ass, Hannity? Another dogboy for Trump? I expect nothing better.

What disturbed me more after the speech was Stephen Colbert joking that Biden’s lunch had stimulants grated onto his Italian lunch instead of cheese. Why keep taking cheap shots Stephen? You can do way better than that. Especially with so much on the line. And I have to believe you know it. This isn’t 2016 anymore or even 2020.

the real pambo's avatar

Agreed, I was disappointed with Colbert too! Not nearly as disappointed as I have been with Jon Stewart since he came back to the desk. I’ve tried watching him the last couple of shows, but I continue to cringe at his tired attempts to make jokes.

Patris's avatar

Maybe they are too far from the effects of what Trump and his band of jackasses can do for the rest of us / maybe because as men they don’t feel the threat of removing the rights of women to self determination, who knows, but it can be dangerous to ourselves, our collective daughters and granddaughters - to see them apparently choose to play with this situation. For women this is a life or death issue

Margaret's avatar

YES!!! And fuck anybody who thinks it's funny.

PJ Schuster's avatar

Patris, I think Colbert knows how dire the situation is for everyone. After all, if Trump wins, you can be sure he will take revenge on all the comics who have made fun of him. We know how much he hates being the butt of jokes. He has specifically ranted against Colbert & Kimmel on his failed SM site.

Patris's avatar

I believe he does, too. And you’re absolutely right about the Orange jackass taking revenge.

Joanne Filipo's avatar

I agree. Stephen needs to get on board with the reality that knocking him down for any reason is not cool. He obviously had his monologue written before the SOTU. Come on Stephen, enough of that shit! .You’ll be there one day too!

Sköll's avatar

I took it that Colbert was being sarcastic. He really was fucking damn proud that Biden wiped the floor with the MAGAts in the House.

Patris's avatar

I think he was. Perhaps as a mother and grandmother of women I take this too much to heart. There’s a lifetime of experience behind me and I know too much how many ways women and girls can lose their lives if not allowed to make choices.

My sense of humor trends snarky and sharp but right now I find it painful to hear people I truly think are brilliant and have a broad audience implying that there is any reason to question the stark reality of where we are.

When one party promotes racism, misogyny, absence of justice and deprivation, I want it to be made clear.

Joanne Filipo's avatar

Absolutely how I feel. This isn't funny.

Lisa K. Obrien's avatar

100%. The preposterous notion that my granddaughter will have less rights than I did as a young woman is both heartbreaking and infuriating. No joking matter.

steve robertshaw's avatar

If you're trying to win the votes of the intelligent portion of the citizenry, you have to assume they have a sense of humor and the ability to even laugh at themselves occasionally. Biden knows this. People need to realize their fellow voters also have some intelligence and recognize when something is said lightly. It's the Republican voters that are generally too dumb to discern a joke or recognize when something was simply made up out of thin air, hence the ratings of Fox Noise.

Sköll's avatar

That pretty much explains the dumb looks I get from MAGAts when I make a joke :D

Joanne Beck's avatar

When Biden kept saying "MEANWHILE" I thought of Colbert....remember he is a comedian first! Not a newsperson....you cannot listen to Colbert and be serious! Take everything he says with a grain of salt (unless he's making fun of the orange douchebag)

Patris's avatar

I do. But things have gotten too serious for me - especially when I watch little ones getting out of school at the end of their day.

Mark L's avatar

That did not set well with me either.

Sleepy Joe for four years now, and he sticks it to them.

I have replied on other articles, if Biden leads or wins, their whole raison d'être is dead.

PJ Schuster's avatar

I look at it like this, Stephen knows dang well that Fox & all the maga morons would be saying that, or something similar, so better to be beaten to the punch by someone we know loves Biden & hates Trump.

Biden & we Dems can take a little ribbing from the friendly side.

George A. Polisner's avatar

Thank you Jeff -you make the incompetence and corruption of the Putin/Trump/MAGA party almost tolerable through humor (although let's face it -they are a parody of themselves).

I had the below to say about the SOTU (for what it's worth). And I didn't even consider the GOP response -having "Three Brain Cells" Greene showing up in her MAGA space suit pretty much said it all.

It is interesting how much weight is placed upon the State of the Union address. Many media outlets were stating that this was "President Biden's moment" to dispel thoughts about his being too old to govern. During his predecessor's time in office, the press clamored, describing the SOTU as a time in which he could appear "Presidential".

I started to reflect about the Presidency. During my lifetime I've seen great orators like John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama. Ronald Reagan, in spite of being one of the worst Presidents in modern history was excellent behind the microphone (providing he wasn't joking about missiles flying).

President Biden and VP Harris have assembled an excellent Cabinet and team. He's established a vision for the United States which is to lead through strength, stability, and compassion. His approach to the economy, strengthening Unions and the middle class -growth from the middle out (the complete opposite of the Reagan/GOP trickle-down fraud) is excellent.

While his SOTU was good -that's not my primary focus on governance and never will be. An excellent orator can be inspiring. Ultimately, a solid, experienced team leading for the good of all Americans and the world is my key consideration for the office.

By comparison, Trump Cabinet was more of a criminal organization -and that has set the bar for today's Putin/Trump/MAGA GOP -they are no longer a political party. An opposing party would still be defending the Constitution and the laws and principles of America while offering policy alternatives under the framework of democracy. The Putin/Trump/MAGA GOP vision is to destroy the system and replace it with massive wealth concentration, hate, fear, isolationism and retribution.

So while the speech was a good one, I am grateful for the sane governance offered by the Biden/Harris administration and would support and vote for them if the SOTU had simply been President Biden reading the nation a bedtime story, putting false teeth into a jar, and saying "goodnight America."

PJ Schuster's avatar

Love it George🥰 I also believe it’s super important that our President & VP have an excellent Cabinet & other team members to assist them in running this country
