we’re bogged down in an unwinnable war. our allies hate our guts. armed federal thugs roam our streets. the price of everything continues to skyrocket ever higher. we even have explosive ass mayhem, for fuck’s sake, with people being turned into human shit-geysers.

Republicans, of course, don’t have any solutions to the problems they’ve created — but what they do have is spectacle, and performative wankery.

which is why, out of the clear blue, they chose to put 85-year-old Dr. Anthony Fauci — of all people! — under the hot lights of a Senate hearing and spent an entire day persecuting him.

“who the fuck do you think you were for doing that? it is a total disgrace, what you did to this country.”

that was Ohio GOP Senator Bernie Moreno, grandstanding for his fifteen minutes of Fox News fame.

Moreno was having a ginormous hissy-fit because six years ago, some rando got arrested for refusing to comply with her town’s mask mandate — as if it were Dr. Fauci’s fault that this dipshit chose to break the law.

what a great use of the Senate’s time and resources, am I right? Republicans don’t have a single idea right now for how to improve the lives of We the People, so they’ve decided instead to throw red meat to their MAGA base, and keep the cultists distracted by reviving their six-year-old grievances against the hero who did his best to keep President Horsepaste McBleachguzzle from botching the covid crisis.

one by one, all the Usual Republican Dumbfucks found a camera to stand in front of, so they could parade their idiocy and try to rewrite history.

hydroxychloroquine, in case you’ve mercifully forgotten, is an antimalarial drug that has no effect whatsoever on covid.

Hydroxychloroquine is not recommended as a treatment for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Also, hydroxychloroquine doesn’t prevent infection with the virus that causes COVID-19.

that not me saying this. that’s the Mayo Clinic. I hear they’re experts on that sort of thing.

if Dr. Fauci indeed put the brakes on Jailbird Pete’s dumb-ass scheme to make us all gobble some ineffective drug, he did him a fucking favor.

MAGA has memory-holed an entire pandemic. they’ve forgotten that millions of people were asphyxiated by their own mucus from a virus that had no cure. that everyday life was upended. that there were mass graves because bodies were piling up in our cities faster than they could be dealt with.

and MAGA has forgotten that when a vaccine was finally perfected, Dear Leader and his Slovenian rent-a-wife were first in line to get it.

in fact, the cultists have completely rewritten history. covid, the story now goes, was no big deal, and if you died from it, it was pretty much your own fault for being weak. oh, and Dr. Fauci needs to be in prison, because reasons.

as for the good doctor, he had no choice but to refuse to answer any of the Republican Senators’ questions.

Fauci accuses Rand Paul of having an “unhinged obsession with calling for my prosecution” and of making “repeated slanderous comments,” then says “although it pains me to do so... under advice of my attorneys, I will invoke my right under the 5th Amendment to refrain from answering your questions.”

this made every Republican completely lose their shit.

Republicans are now the guy from Memento. they can no longer form lasting memories.

they can’t remember a virus that killed millions. they can’t remember that Dear Leader directed them to get vaccinated. and they can no longer remember that Donny himself was a perpetual motion fifth amendment factory when it came time for him to give testimony under oath.

look, Republicans, it’s time to leave Dr. Fauci alone.

let him be. he devoted his entire life as a scientist and immunologist to solving medical mysteries and making life better for everyone. stop your dumbfuck jihad against him. he’s earned the right to be left alone, and to enjoy a quiet retirement.
