This site participates daily in a never-ending damnation of Joe Bidens opponent for President – for damn good reason. But occasionally we need to remind everyone of President Bidens accomplishments as well. This is a partial list of Biden’s accomplishments that led to our recovery and represents the efforts of a “workhorse President” that will whip the rump of the former “show horse President” this fall. Today as Bidens opponent sits in a NY courtroom on criminal trial, President Biden will meet with the Prime Ministers of the Czech Republic and Iraq conducting the worlds business.

Biden passed much needed legislation to give hope for prosperity after trump mangled the pandemic, destroyed the economy and led an insurrection to overthrow the government. Biden lowered the unemployment rate from 6.3% to 3.5% and has held the unemployment rate below 4% for the longest period in 50 years. Biden created 15 million jobs in a little over 3 years (a record). Bidenomics grew the economy at a rate of 3.1% last year and reduced inflation to 1.9% from 9%. Biden united the West to help Ukraine fight Russia. Biden passed the first gun safety legislation in thirty years. The following legislation was also passed during Bidens first term: Bipartisan Infrastructure Legislation, The Electoral Count Act, Science and Chips Act, Respect For Marriage Act, American Rescue Plan, PACT Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

Joe Biden fights daily to save our democracy from creeping fascism. Biden is one of the greatest and most timely essential Presidents in our history and reelection of Biden is mandatory if we want to maintain our democratic republic. “A lady asked Benjamin Franklin, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy? – A republic, replied Franklin, if you can keep it.” A republic or a monarchy? A Pro-Democracy Party or a Pro Putin Party? We all get to decide in 204 days.

Expand full comment

It seems that the only criticism of Biden that the mealy mouthed media can dredge up is: "he is too old". In most societies currently and formerly inhabiting this planet, elders of the tribe were revered and sought out for their wisdom. I trust Joe Biden to be wise enough to recognize the possibility of deteriorating health at his stage in life and to have surrounded himself with intelligent, capable people who would be more than up to the task of taking over the country for him in the case of short or prolonged absences due to possible medical procedures. The incipient and all-too-obvious incidents of Alzheimer's disease affecting the brain of President Biden's opponent are a rapidly worsening indication of an incurable, and devastating, condition.

Expand full comment

Linda, this may not be the answer to why Bidens age is a much bigger deal here than in other parts of the world. Ageism is very prevalent in our country. "Demographically, we are at a crossroads. For the first time in human history, there are now more people in the world over the age of 64 than under the age of five. Some politicians, economists, and journalists are wringing their hands over what they call “the silver tsunami,” but they’re missing the point. The fact that so many people are getting to experience old age, and doing so in better health, is one of society’s greatest achievements. It’s also an extraordinary opportunity to rethink what it means to grow old. "https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2022/08/how-americas-ageism-hurts-shortens-lives-of-elderly/'

Was discussing this very topic with our youngest, who is Gen Z. He wants to turn this election into a forum on how broken and corrupt Biden and the Democrats are, which makes the idea of his generation voting a difficult sales job by Democrats.

I countered that next November boils down to a single issue, something I loathe normally; however, the young voters need to understand just how abnormal this era is. It’s paramount they appreciate the gravity of democracy’s position and that their purposeful reluctance to support the party not trying to destroy our republic can be devastating for not only our country, but the world over.

Expand full comment

Wow, sounds like your son has a wonderful, loving and intelligent father. Good you have the motivation to speak with him.

See, there's your obstacle: to them, this abnormality is all they've known.

My college age son expressed the SAME sentiments and can't believe that we, his parents, think that Biden is the most consequential and effective president for our times. Worse still, he doesn't seem to worry that voting for Trump is sentencing his sister to a Handmaid's Tale future or his gay uncle to the closet or jail. He is just so angry at Biden over Gaza. Can't see the forest for the trees. I got tired of suggesting now is NOT the time for a protest vote against Biden. OMG, it's so "perfect storm" against Biden at times, I get really depressed.

Expand full comment

@Eileen it’s almost as if the intransigence of the leftist youth is a mirror of the MAGA mob, specifically Trump’s usually successful refusal to acknowledge his errors or back down.

You’re right, it’s very depressing because Trump’s potential reelection is fraught with a peril the youngest voters do not recognize for the menace it represents to our republic.

Ah, the noble youth. They like to see Israel as a punisher of the Gazans when those same people are just cannon fodder for the Hamas, the latest militancy. Best to see the bigger picture and as, correctly, not for the forest for the trees. The areas has literally been engaged in war for 5000 years. Better to get more history and lived experience. But, we were all young and naive, at least some of us.

I am so glad that you wrote this as PJ just seem to ignore my point about the many times Israel tried to negotiate with Hamas and Hamas fucked them EVERY SINGLE TIME. Here is a good start for a history lesson: https://youtu.be/XNf40sBcvKk?si=8jCVTQ-wEcbkzWr7.

Eileen - I feel your son’s anger & I have called the WH & left messages for Biden & Harris, I’ve emailed Biden, Harris, Dr Jill, & Doug Emhoff about how they must push harder on BiBi to stop with the carpet bombing & to let sufficient aid in so that children are not starving to death.

Does anyone remember how outraged we were when Putin’s army did the exact same things in Ukraine? They bombed civilian homes, hospitals, power plants, & they have taken 100s of 1000s of Ukrainian children hostage. We call Putin a war criminal & demand he be tried in the International Criminal Court!! Why then are we not only okay with Israel doing the same thing, but we are supporting them in doing it?

The only way I can reason it out to myself to vote for Biden in the general election despite him continuing to send 2000lb bombs to Israel is this: the reasons you listed, plus my belief that Biden can be reasoned with, he can be convinced to change tactics, to use his leverage & Trump can never be reasoned with, would never ever admit he was wrong.

However, this election is not just a single issue, it is most importantly about keeping our democracy, but almost as important it is about a woman’s right to have an ABORTION

Perhaps try my self reasoning on your son….that Biden can change course, Trump never will.

Expand full comment

Thank you for your reply, P. J.! Biden can be reasoned with. Correct. Look at his ability to reach across the aisle. Look at his promotion of progressive causes. He knows that Bibi is corrupt. He warned him not to overplay his hand and win the battle but lose the war. Now, Biden is in a position to play the long game. The Middle East needs stability and he can help Israel cast out its want to be dictator at the same time rein in Iran with more partnerships in the area. He's been at it a long time, has seen many approaches fail, and knows how to negotiate in seemingly unwinnable situations. Yes, too many lives have been lost. Biden will do his best to stop the carnage; Trump will revel in it.

Expand full comment

Your son is angry at Biden because of Gaza. But Trump and Netanyahu are best buddies. Does your son think the situation would be different if Trump were President?

What this boils down to is, “Do you want to continue living in a democracy, or do you want to live in a dictatorship?” If you like living in a democracy, then you must vote for Biden.”

Expand full comment

Shee-rah, Thank you for your feedback. I hope that my son and the Gen Z caught up in disgust for the situation in Gaza will have the wherewithal to weigh the reality of our perilous point in history. Come November, we need to walk them back from the ledge.

Expand full comment

Eileen, perhaps you can find the history of Israel and Hamas and see if your son will read it. It is not just about Gaza, which Hamas brought in itself for inserting itself into people’s homes, building tunnels all over the are in which to bring in weapons, using people as human shields. There are so many times that Israel has tried to negotiate with Hamas and they reneged every single time. They have refused to let the hostages go home. Though I don’t care for Netanyahu or his policies, they are pretty much getting what they deserved.

Expand full comment

Shell, Thanks for your thoughts. I agree Hamas offers the Palestinian people nothing but misery. With Bibi's offensive now in month six, they managed to skirt the worldwide condemnation they deserve. If I were Israel, day one I would have isolated and assassinated Hamas cowardly leaders hiding in foreign lands. It's exactly why we hunted down Bin Laden. He started the whole charade and he deserved to pay for his crimes. Israel should have treated the Hamas hiding in plain sight as the Bin Laden's they are instead of negotiating with them. The hostages would have been freed after two or more Hamas leaders got what they deserved because the surviving Hamas leaders who hide in cushy foreign palaces with servants would have caved.

Hoyt: as always, your comments are informed, rational and very readable. Aside from the stats and actual facts… what about the role of emotions influencing people’s voting decisions?

I’m giving to use this 6 letter word appropriately but can scarcely key it: trumps

Emotion trumps reason when it comes to voting. Some number of black and brown people, as well as young voters are reportedly moving towards Trump. Putin-directed Iranian drone attack on Israel was a way to escalate US protection of Israel… a way to further alienate potential Biden voters.

Putin allies will do anything to diminish Biden’s chances of winning… including the drone strike.

I admire your research and commentary. I beleive that emotions and perceptions (well founded or not) will be the biggest factor in November

Women outnumber men in this country and I think that tfg boasting about having Roe overturned is motivating us more than what is happening in these two wars that Iran (which tfg squashed the Obama deal that he had with Iran because he tried to destroy every bit of legislation that Obama did because he was a black man) decided to join Hamas in defending Palestine.

Women are pissed off. Democrats and Republicans over this and I have seen movements on SM towards getting Biden reelected. I don't think that tfg has a rat's chance in hell of getting elected. TS stock is a sure sign that he has lost support from his base. Attendance at his rallies are mostly paid actors holding signs and wearing those stupid hats. They are at smaller venues or on the tarmac by his rickety plane (why can't that crash and burn and do us all a favor 🤷‍♀️). I think that we'll be alright come November. Because it is not just about denying abortion, they will take away access to birth control & there are several males in high places with power who are openly stating that women shouldn’t have voting rights.

It is totally about removing all agency from women, removing us from the workforce & from competition with men. I think many men have no idea of how big a hornet’s nest they have kicked

Spot on! Why is it that NO ONE SO FAR HAS CONNECTED THE DOTS? Was hoping this morning on Morning Joe one of the many pundits, specially Joyce Vance would say exactly what you just wrote. The top republican who replaced Liz Chaney said congress will only approve help for Israel!! The timing of this conflict wasn’t a coincidence. Anything to help Trump.

I wish he was younger merely to shut up those who can’t tell the difference between a Diane Feinstein whose family should have gently removed her from the stage much sooner, and a high functioning senior whose wisdom far exceeds any of the niggling aging issues.

But if he wasn’t the age he is, he may not have had the same capacity for the successes he’s having. He’s good at this because he’s got 50 years under his belt.

Expand full comment

Marie, You nailed my feelings exactly. Thank you. I think Joe Biden is giving this country and the world his wisdom, free of the shackles of immaturity and reckless ambition.

Clinton torched his true potential and got mired in an avoidable scandal.

Obama was weighed down by lack of experience and timidity. He gave the Republicans too many chances. The ACA was Nancy Pelosi's achievement in many ways. Granted, as the first African American president, Obama came through without any scandal. Nothing. Pin drop noiseless WH, even though the Republicans were hell bent on finding dirt.

Enter Joe: He reached across the aisle just enough and succeeded in spite of the Republicans. My favorite maneuver was out-playing Mitch McConnell who was trying to hold the CHIPS act hostage if they didn't back away from the climate solution heavy Build Back Better (Inflation Reduction Act). Perfect foil, Manchin said he wouldn't give it support. So, McConnell sensing he had won agreed to pass CHIPS. Then Manchin and Biden regrouped and said, heck now that you put it that way, let's go ahead with that ol' Inflation Reduction Act.

Impatience. Republicans want a shortcut to power and money. Many of the lowlifes vying for Trump access would never amount to anything so grand in a meritocracy. As willing accomplices to grifting, to transforming the USA into a cleptocracy, they will seize that mantel of control with blind zeal.

Apparently, the Nazi leader, Goring, was enthralled by uniform design and paraded around in glitzy, white garments no one else wore. An example of crazed illusions of grandeur for people who value self-importance over doing the boring work of governing.

Excellent commentary. Trump hasn’t started wearing a uniform yet. Perhaps his hair color and combover represent his unique uniform .

Slithering, slimy, seditious snakes. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎉🎉 I have to write a song that has that for the chorus! (Even though the “s” is difficult to sing well). Any of you may do so also!

That 51% bullshit from Sununu is about as embellished as Trump constantly proclaiming his innocence. More than likely, you'll see that much support or even more in places like many of the peckerwood dominated areas south of the Mason Dixon line but not across the board. Sununu, like many others in the GOP, do lack the balls to speak the truth but a few convictions over time may contribute to a few positive flip flops for a change.

Thirty-pieces-of-silver-Sununu! Sell your soul, buddy!

He and all the Republican traitors will only have themselves to thank for hanging themselves on Trump's mafia family tree.

Jury selection begins today, I cannot wait until the actual trial begins, and all of the evidence against him is laid out for all the world to see! He will be ranting and raving on his cheap Twitter wannabe every minute he isn’t seated in the courtroom.

Is TS a Twitter wannabe or has Twitter become a TS wannabe? I’ve lost my bearings. But regardless, I agree with you. Trump is gonna make tantrums great again.

For 34 years I've been 'down for the defense' akin to Horace Rumpole (of the Bailey), as a criminal defense attorney. However, I'd gladly volunteer as a prosecutor for the TFG "Fungus". For once, "GUILTY" will be music to my ears.

Loved him, book and show 💗

Sununu isn't put off by grifter Trump because HE'S a grifter. He billed the taxpayers for hundreds of thousands of dollars for travel expenses while he was in the administration. Sununu may be the current spokes for the Leopard Eating Faces party, but he's kidding himself if he thinks a second Trump term will be good for anyone. In the meantime, I'm gratified to see X posters handing him his ass all morning long. Not that he cares, because sociopath.

Trump and all the crap needs to be over and done. Despite having crooked Republicans in the White House before, all Americans have suffered endlessly from Trump's very existence. It all needs to be over and done, and he may do it himself.

I have always maintained that the fake wispy shit on his head tells you all you need to know about the man. Older Son met him - part of his military service, not by choice - and commented on how thin and transparent that shit is.

Right? I long for the day when my first thought every morning is not, “is he dead yet”? And that, not one single thought comes into my head for a whole day, about what a shit show we’ve been living through, bc of him, since he ascended his fat ass down that escalator! I wish we could erase him from our collective memories!
