The party wont go to its own fuckin party. First time in years a midterm get together has happened jeff.

So we are talking about a bunch of asswads who are too cowardly to admit that they can’t leave the safety of their own homes to pay hommage to the Prancing Throbbing AssGod. Because the house of cards they built is falling the fuck apart.

Also, Im crying that Steinem is gone.

It's so weird this morning that I only found out about her death from several newsletters by women in my email. It's not being mentioned by male political newsletters or put up top by "mainstream" media. Or maybe it's not weird. Maybe it's a clear sign of how much what she achieved is being undone.

HH Mohr's avatar

NYT did report it. We owe her so much.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Oh, they all "reported" it. But it's not a headline story.

Karen Yaholnitsky's avatar

CNN has been reporting it all morning as their top news story.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

I don't have TV. All my news is online. I subscribe to about two dozen media newsletters, both independent and mainstream (I don't subscribe to the latter's actual papers, just their newsletter update.)

I found out via an NBC News alert

Anybody see Mitch lately? I heard he was at Kroger in the very back of the walk in cooler… resting comfortably.

SethTriggs's avatar

I have a 20-minute call scheduled with him later.

steve robertshaw's avatar

Can you ask him to put it on Zoom so he can hold up today's Washington Post? That one from 2 months ago was so convincing!

HI2thDoc's avatar

From last month:

Did Turtle Man go bye-bye

To that great shell in the sky

Or as some wags allege

Mitch is now just a veg

Either one is a big GOP lie

steve robertshaw's avatar

You have a skill - and I ain't no shill!

Stephen Schiff's avatar

Yeah, in two weeks.

Alexander Crouton-Skitch's avatar

Hope he defrosts in time for the call.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

I'm fine with this. They're down a vote until they replace him.

Oh, the Ballroom is a gift to America? Ok, I'd like to hold my anniversary dinner and celebration there. Who do I contact to set this up? Thank you for your attention to this matter. HH

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

I hope the next president immediately guts the ballroom and, if the space can't be demolished, turns it back into offices or maybe some kind of historical center about the presidency. The whole thing makes no sense. A. it's unlikely to be completed before Trump leaves office B. there are almost no events at the White House requiring such a massive ballroom. You don't throw huge parties there which would be a security nightmare.

djw's avatar

Someone has suggested making it a community center for kids around DC. If we can't bulldoze it, I think that would be a lovely idea!

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

There might be security problems with that, which I thought of it terms of a visitor center/museum as well. But at least you could screen ticket holders. Kids coming and going would be a virtual impossibility.

Steve in SoCal's avatar

It's all good until a falling chandelier kills someone due to shoddy construction

Stephen Brady's avatar

tRump envisions himself at a huge gala surrounded by a multitude of oligarchs heaping praise and adulation on him… and after that, he’ll be quite bored with it.

Jayme Wolworth's avatar

Since DonOld has become nothing but a glorified Event Planner I would assume he'd be in charge of all events held there.

Jennifer's avatar

Did the Supreme Court know the ballroom was also a "Military complex" when they okay'd? Did they knowingly give him a bunker to hunker down in with the nuclear codes when we try to oust him from office?

I truly see now how Hitler came to power, and millions of Germans just let it happen. I literally don't know what to do other than be so fucking angry and helpless, watching this "shit kazoo" ruin what shreds of decency this country ever had. It wasn't perfect but it was more than this.

The Baroness's avatar

So agree! Then you have the "Gestapo" being given shock gloves, while the original Gestapo only had cattle prods.

James Vander Poel's avatar

And didn't wear masks.

Dana Jae Labrecque's avatar

Beyond appalling. The blood oath to Project 2025 by Congress and 6 members of SCOTUS must have been chilling. They are locked in on the destruction of America and Putin is pleased as punch.

Mary Gabriel's avatar

VOTE That's what you can do.

Alexander Crouton-Skitch's avatar

Yes, and in overwhelming numbers, to make the outcome elon-proof from his software hacking and diddling.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Elon Musk did not and cannot hack any "software." There is nothing hackable in elections systems. Let's not us descend to their level of conspiracy theory, OK?

Victoria Wilson's avatar

Yes, I agree.A large part of this country is suffering from daily anger and outrage and yes, with a sense of helplessness thrown in.Really it is a form of PTSD. We have got to vote in such ginormous numbers in November that there can be no doubt who won. Then we must hold these fuckers accountable.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

There is already a high-security bunker under the White House. The entire project is superfluous.

RZolu's avatar

The one under the White House that Obama built is no where big enough for Donnie and all his oligarch friends…

Stephen Brady's avatar

It was ahem built by a black man. Donnie doesn’t want to set foot in it…

David Lehnherr's avatar

All the wrong people are dying. I've lost all faith in cholesterol and lack of exercise.

Neal Stiffelman's avatar

100% chance they place a gold sumpin’ there. Just trash the place.

Also, RIP the astonishing Ms. Gloria Steinem.

SethTriggs's avatar

This definitely means the Straits of SchrΓΆdinger are openclosed!

Wow Xi and Putin must just be sitting back and laughing their asses off. This is an amazing cherry on top of Putin being able to leverage Americans' bigotries against them to bring a 34x felonious con man sex pest into unitary control of government (along with his bought and paid unreconstructed party).

I hate the way trump makes a fist. The fact that they made a statue of him with his lame ass fist in the air is just so stupid.

Lisa Bieber's avatar

They're trying to hide the fact that his hands are devastatingly tiny.

Sheila Riley-Callahan's avatar

Dolly and now Gloria. Amazing women…the best of the best are gone…

…and the piece of crud is still here. *weep*

SeekingReason's avatar

That’s exactly what I said when I heard the news about Steinem. 😟

Susan P Thatcher's avatar

Trump may have wanted to destroy all the artwork he's removed, but i'm betting things are ending up in the private collections of his buddies. Even this sculpture. He has also cut down 40 weeping willows from the Kennedy Center. I fear the bulldozers are coming.

This cowardly, afraid to point out the obvious, language in the story from CNBC really got to me: "It was not immediately clear how the president would attempt to implement a name change in the strait, which is not near the U.S." Not immediately clear? How about a snowball's chance in hell?
