Ron feels like what happens when you go speed dating and end up sat across from three raccoons in a trenchcoat.

And Floriduh is giving every appearance of being run by raccoons.

Was it he who said he would deliberately mispronounce "Thai,' as in call it "Thigh food," on a first date? If his date corrected him, there wouldn't be a 2nd. Me (who never passes an opportunity for a joke) would have probably said, "Since when it comes to fowl, I love the dark meat best so let's go there!" Then no 2nd date by MY choice! What an A-hole! He chose women according to how smart and assertive they WEREN'T!

I’m born and raised here, - and am now retired here but considering a move OUTTA here! So many republicans in this state, so besides the diseases, we have “moronomics”...an ever-growing population of morons that populate this state who back Trump, DuhFascist...and suffer from a complete lack of education. It’s downright scary here. I mean, to support someone that’s peddling the idea that slavery was some sort of “trade-school” that prepared you for a life-of-freedom? What the actual-fuck?

get out. why spend another day of your life in a place which will only make you more unhappy by the day. i say this because i left the states 2 years ago when i was 69. it's not easy and takes a while to adjust which i am still in the process of doing. yes, it was worth it. the air of anger, and hate all around, is gone and i am a happier person, hands down. i did this enormous life change alone by the way.

Hi Lorraine. I recall your telling me this once before and you DO set an example for the rest of us....moving seems so daunting, I must say, and we’re about the same age. Also, I’d be doing it alone as well. I’ve just had issues determining exactly where I would go! Hats off to you and your determination and bravery! I am glad you are happier, - that says so much!!!

Happier yes, but shocked by some of the American expats. Single women to be precise. It is a known "thing" here. I just don't get it. They are unhappy and frankly, mean women. And here's the thing, they probably, like me, have a nicer home than they ever had, more money than they ever had and an easier life than they ever had.

Anyway, it's gotten much better for me partially due to a fabulous American therapist who's lived here for 35 years and has pretty much seen everything.

I'm writing a book about what prompted me to do this, my fabulous 3,000-mile road trip with my dog getting here, how the pandemic played a part and I've snuck in a tiny memoir to boot. I truly believe we write our own chapters in life, and I was desperate for a new one.

HET999 you can do it. Take a few trips, I mean what's the worst that can happen? We know what that is and it's going to happen anyway.

"None of us have the promise of tomorrow. God forbid this is my last day on this beautiful earth, it won't be spent listening to some news person telling me how rotten we are, how rotten life is, heck no, I'm going out and seeing how beautiful life is.

As humans, our time on this planet is very limited...

Turn off, tune out and turn on your life. Peace"

He's fizzling in the Presidential race and there are *many* of us here who are fed up with him. He'll still have the rest of this term to fuck everything up but then he'll wither into obscurity.

No, I don't. He'll still have his base in places like The Villages and with some seniors, but we Dems and Independents will outnumber them. People are fed up with being the brunt of everyone's jokes and hate Bec of him.

I have friends and family who live in Floriduh. My niece in Tampa said her homeowners insurance has skyrocketed. I honestly don’t know WHY anyone would want to live there.

Expand full comment
Carrie Duncan's avatar

Or why anyone would want to buy there. Insurers are leaving the state in droves, and not just for those insuring homeowners (auto, too, re: Farmer's latest exit). For those that have homeowners insurance, it was a 33% increase 2022 to 2023. I frequently think about if I were a FL homeowner how I'd best time it to get out before a mortgage was underwater (double-entendre pun intended). Isn't it ALL supposed to be underwater by 2050?

That’s so tragic. I’m

an RN with a PhD in Public Health Sciences. It is devastating to see these re-emerging outbreaks. I predict Polio, eradicated by the WHO and DA Anderson, will emerge next in FLORIDUH. All the brakes are off in that state: next up MMR EXPLOSIONS among school children--and adults.

Thanks Sharon, my cousin, an RN, just retired as a public health nurse in VA. These eradicated disease are popping up in places not seen in 40-50 years. She told me the reason for most of it it is this vaccination push back.

I taught public school in PA. When I started no child was permitted to start school under no uncertain terms without proper vaccinations/ birth certificates or proof of residency. By the time I retired. Those hard and fast rules of my early career were treated more like guidelines by the end of my career. How dangerous! Exposing an unvaccinated child to diseases where they have no immunity, or worse the children who are no longer vaccinated against diseases that supposedly were eradicated (smallpox)carried by unvaccinated children.

We need to rename our public health departments Common Sense for the Common Good Health Departments.

Thanks to all nurses for all you do for all of us.

How sad for that man since it's treatable. But it takes very long to develop the worst symptoms. I have an odd connection to the disease having grown up near the "leprosorium" in LA. Patients with long term disease didn't die but disease can affect different parts of the body. So I guess it's possible and fellow probably had co-existing ailments. Thing to know is this: MOST PEOPLE HAVE NATURAL IMMUNITY TO THIS DISEASE which is TECHNICALLY NO LONGER CALLED LEPROSY. It's now called HANSEN'S DISEASE and IT IS NOT THE DISEASE OF THE BIBLE. No one knows what diseases those were and could probably have been any number of them. All of which is not to say recent upsurge isn't tragic and cause for concern.
