I saw this posted on FaceBook; the author is (I believe) a gentleman named Hank Honig. When he encounters a dyed in the wool MAGAt, this is what he says to it:

โ€œI understand why youโ€™re supporting a man whose morals and actions align perfectly with your own. I understand that being like him is something that excites you and makes you feel less insignificant in a world you canโ€™t understand. I also understand itโ€™s much easier to let someone else think for you and decide where you stand on important issues rather than trying to educate yourself and form your own opinions and thoughts.โ€

I really like that!

P. J. Schuster's avatar

I certainly hope Khan is not pushed out. Antitrust has been way too lax or completely nonexistent for too long. The fact that almost all of our news & entertainment companies are owned by just 6 people or conglomerates is a ridiculous state of affairs. Another problem that has been brought to our attention since Roe fell, that needs some antitrust lawsuits brought, is the Catholic Church buying up too many or even all of the hospitals in a given area.

Since they refuse to do, not only abortions, but other reproductive procedures such as vasectomies, tubal ligations, hysterectomies (unless itโ€™s horribly prolapsed or eaten up with cancer), etc. This leaves many women & men without easy access to these procedures, having to drive long distances to get the care they need or want. I hope Ms Khan stays right where she is & gets even more aggressive.

Expand full comment
Linda Weide's avatar

I know what you mean. I have been alarmed at their buying up hospitals which means they impose their policies on everyone. In the Midwest there are some states where there is no care that is not tainted by the Catholic Church. In fact, my daughter's friends decided not to go to Uni in Ohio for this reason. I am a super big fan of Ms. Khan's and let us hope that these evil tech cretins, do not push Harris out like they did Biden if she refuses to do their bidding.

Ordinarily, I respect Jeff's judgment a whole lot, I regret deeply that Jeff defended the couch rumor yesterday. On this issue, I think Jeff's not living up to his own high standards.

As we all know, it's impossible to prove a negative. We cannot prove that JFK didn't vote a straight Republican ticket his whole life, and we cannot prove that John Paul II and Mother Teresa didn't have a secret orgy one fine Tuesday. It's hard enough in many instances to prove that an event did happenโ€” it is utterly impossible to prove that an isolated event involving a single individual did not happen.

I earned a PhD in a historical discipline, and โ€œDid it happen?" is the most important question in my profession. I fell in love with history because of its high standards of accuracy and I cannot live without those standards now.

BTW, I love it when Jeff follows his obvious fabrications with, โ€œI may have just made that up.โ€ Jeff is definitely NOT a member of BlueAnon.

A critique some years ago offered to H. Clinton: you are talking, no one is listening. Wow. Well people are listening. Kamala connects. The Magatโ€™s sad tropes arenโ€™t working. Crazy Cat Ladyโ€”bring it on; sofa sex really doesnโ€™t sell. Or Project 2025. Or mass detention and deportation as being anything other than fascist. We are tired, just tired of dystopian rhetoric. Kamala, you rock it. Prosecutor vs. Felonโ€”I approve this ad.

Hmmph. Some of us WERE listening to Hillary, but okay. It was only 70 million or so of us, in the end.

Expand full comment
Deborah Hunter's avatar

I think the problem with Hillary (besides the Russian interference and back stabbing Comey) was that she doesn't have the charisma and coolness that Kamala has. Not her fault - you either have it or you don't. Obama had tons of it. Plus Hillary had a history with the American public as First Lady. My mom had voted Dem for the first time for Clinton in 1992, but always really disliked Hillary. Don't know why. I voted for her and would again. She would have made a good president in spite of the fact that the GOP would have tried to make us all miserable screaming about her in a daily basis. Things turn out the way they were meant to be. How many of us knew back in 2016 how nutty some Americans are and cultlike? Trump brought them all out of hiding.

Expand full comment
Pope Buck I's avatar

They had sabotaged her so thoroughly for 30 years, it's no mystery why people "weren't listening to her" in 2016. People keep picking apart her 2016 campaign on every level, but "her opponents were cheating like hell" never seems to factor into the equation, and it should.

So true. The conservatives hate the Clintons with a passion and worked relentlessly to smear them. 'Course, Bill gave them ammunition with his hounddogging around. And Hillary with the private email server, even though others, including Javanka, did the same. I tell people, if the Clintons had really done anything provable, wouldn't the right wing like nothing more than to really "lock them up?" Unlike their own nominee, the Clintons have never been indicted.

That really changed the complexion of the race. I'm not saying Comey did it for partisan reasons, but he got his "thank you" later by being fired by orange douchebag

Expand full comment
Deborah Hunter's avatar

Yes, she had a long history with the public and that factor makes you either liked or disliked. Hard to change that perception. She did though make a big mistake about the email server. When you are that controversial and there's so much at stake, why would you chance it with that server? And the excuse that everyone does it isn't an excuse. It may have cost her the election.

They said she was a poor campaigner because she ducked out of the race "too early" in 2020. Me, I think she saw clearly how crowded a field it was, including established progressive "icons" like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, and recognized that she couldn't stand out enough to win. So she got out cleanly, before being forced to negative-campaign against anyone else in her own party. Seems like the smartest move to me.
