I understand why: the news fucking sucks these day and it's only getting worse, and folks need to disengage for their own sanity's sake. so I want to thank each and every one of you who are still with us for hanging in. thanks!

Mine arrived last week, but who knows if it will appear in May. I'm really terrified about Trump's open and brazen defiance of three court orders (so far). There's a hearing before Judge Xinis at 4 PM today and we'll see what happens. I hope she slaps some people with contempt of court. I have absolutely no faith that the Supremes will stand up to Trump on any issue; clearly we are now living under a fascist regime. I'm really too old for this shit and am trying to figure out how to fight back and wondering if I will survive.

Expand full comment
Denise Donaldson's avatar

About the fascist regime, Linda, I was watching Jon Stewart last night, and part of his monologue was about whether mango man is actually a fascist. His conclusion was that the current mal-administration is NOT fascist, because it's too bumbling and inefficient. Of course, I realize that Jon's point was to crack on mango man's idiocy, and he did a good job with that.

But in reality, the Dumpster and his minions are actually quite efficient. Just ask Abrego Garcia or Mahmoud Khalil or the hundreds of others who've been disappeared. Or all the people who've seen their retirement savings vanish. Or the universities, media outlets, and law firms who've felt the wrath of Dump. Thus far, this obscene creature (actually, his handlers behind the scenes) has been monstrously efficient at what I'm convinced is the end game: wreaking utter havoc on the country.

They intend to destroy the constitutional order and institute a clerico-fascist state. They will attempt to jail, deport and crush any and all critics and quash all dissent. This is fascism; in fact, it's open Nazism. I'm just waiting for Trump's Reichstag Fire moment and his very own Reichstag Fire Decree and Enabling Act.

Expand full comment
Denise Donaldson's avatar

Ditto re the Reichstag Fire moment.

I would add that, in addition to seizing total power and quashing all dissent, they want to wreck the economy and pick up the pieces for cheap. We saw the opening move on that score last Wednesday morning, right before the tariff pause. In the meantime, part of the quashing involves destroying government services and capturing citizens' personal data.

And as you say, it's "they" who've gamed this all out---the people way behind the curtain who are implementing Project 2025, among other measures.

The Extreme Court >did< 'stand up to' Dumpty.

The Court ruled 9-0 last Thursday that the Trump administration must try to release Ábrego García, who was deported to a mega-jail in El Salvador.

Expand full comment
Linda Fulcher's avatar

A correction: The Court said that Trump must "facilitate" Mr. Abrego Garcia's release and return. Whatever the hell that means. I guess we'll find out today when Judge Xinis gets her teeth into these pigs at the hearing.

Expand full comment
Denise Donaldson's avatar

Actually, Doc, SCOTUS said that the White House should try to "facilitate" the return of Garcia. They gave no specific orders and quite deliberately left holes in the ruling big enough to drive a Mack truck through. Accordingly, Dump & Co. took their cue and said, "Oh, too bad. We really tried to facilitate it, but gee, it didn't work. President Bukele said no, so we're out of luck."

The Roberts court went so far as to publicly insert "facilitate" for the lower court's "effectuate." They basically gave mango man a blank check disguised as a ruling in Garcia's favor.

Expand full comment
Doc Blase''s avatar

Facilitate. put into force or operation. Plain Oxford English.

Expand full comment
Linda Fulcher's avatar

I read the opinion. It's full of weasel words and merely says that Trump must try to "effectuate" Mr. Abrego Garcia's release. It didn't order him to do a damn thing. The Court is either afraid of Trump or is complicit in his reign of terror. We'll see what happens in today's hearing before Judge Xinis.

Expand full comment
Doc Blase''s avatar

Yeah as if no one can type “effectuate” and obtain a definition. Whatever they’re taking up there at the Suckcreme Court they need to lay off it.

Congress needs to remember that they control the purse strings that pay for these "prisoners" to be housed in El Salvadorian concentration camps. Unless of course Demented Donnie is paying out of his own pocket. LOL

The first round of prisoners cost US $33,000.00 a head to send there. It's got to be some kind of grift for Trump otherwise he wouldn't be so giddy about their prisons and telling his fellow dictator to build more. Ahhhh… remember the days of previous presidents times… when we didn’t have to stayed glued to daily media reports of nut/ fuckery bullshit and illegal maneuvers?

Some of the statements and tone of that post are exactly a big reason why Kamala lost. It's not just MAGA who are tone deaf, it's some on our side too.

I've read some of the bits, seems many are fragments if I recall correctly, I believe there is only one full poem.

Someone who studies ancient lesbian writing recently referred me to a place where I could read some. I of course can't find it now.

Don't make the mistake of assuming these old white men who went to Ivy League schools actually had the intellect to do so on their own. Most of them were legacy admissions thanks to their rich, white fathers, grandfathers and so on who donated a lot of money to these schools.

Sen Kennedy actually found the (temporary) courage to call the trump tariffs deep stupid. This is the guy who pretends to be deep stupid to get elected because if you show too much intelligence, especially book learning, you’re a liberal who’s disrespecting them. Acting smart and all better than them triggers their insecurity based hatred. Not only will they not vote for you, they will harm themselves to “own” you. This guy called their dear leader (and them) stupid - deep stupid. You have to be massively Big Fucking Stupid for Sen Fog Horn Leg Horn to drop the pretense and call you deep stupid.
