today in Shit That Happened While I Was Busy Writing This Shit—

"Vance hails a ‘very good day’ of US-Iran negotiations"

https://www.cnn.com/2026/06/22/world/live-news/iran-war-trump-israel-lebanon-hnk

yeah, like I'd believe anything that comes out of the couchfucker's mouth.

Wendy The Druid 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🌈's avatar

Jeff, I have to tell you I can’t believe not only anything comes out of Vance’s mouth is actually true, but I also can’t believe anything that comes out of anyone else’s mouth from the administration so the administration itself is just a giant lying machine and anyone that believes otherwise is rather deluded

Victoria Wilson's avatar

That’s a great way to describe them-“a giant lying machine”. When we get through this-and we will-I hope lying becomes so very uncool.Truth really does matter to a helluva lot of people.smfh

Susan Jane's avatar

It's a perpetual motion lying machine!

kdsherpa's avatar

I got SO frustrated in 2016. NOT ONE WORD the barbaric orange pedophilic sadist said was true!!! NOT ONE WORD! I kept waiting for the news to point this out. NO ONE DID. "Alternate truths" was used. I really felt so anxious during those first three years. NO ONE was telling the truth -- INCLUDING the MSM. I remember in 2019, Anderson Cooper ventured a timid comment: "That is false." Now, a TERRIBLE, LONG DECADE LATER, everyone says -- both Right and Left -- "the guy's lying." WHY WHY WHY didn't they say that when it still could have made a difference?! Their passivity and both-siderism continues to amaze and horrify me.

Gloria J. Maloney's avatar

Good question. Afraid?

Gloria J. Maloney's avatar

I meant: why don't journalists report? btw, I'm angry too.

kdsherpa's avatar

I'm not sure about the first years, 2016 till maybe 2018? Lazy? Being told by owners to curry favor? Your thoughts?

Chris Hierholzer's avatar

I'm just a love machine

I don't love nobody but me.

kdsherpa's avatar

lol! You've discovered the Theme Song for the barbaric orange pedophilic sadist's reign! And it's perfect for not just him, but for every single person he's gotten to fill positions during his reign. Revolving door, yes. But they're all the same.

Jan Moon's avatar

It's a damn good thing Pinocchio is fiction. Otherwise the entire administration would be beating the living shit out of each other. Which might not be such a bad idea.

Kim Steeves's avatar

I've often thought that each politician should have Pinocchio DNA inserted into them at the start of their run. Just to keep them honest!

kdsherpa's avatar

Oh, I think it would be a WONDERFUL idea!

devourerofpancakes's avatar

Oh Vance, your career is over. The bus wheel marks are already on your body.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

I know. I used to worry about how we could fight back against Vance for 2028. But all we need to do is sit back and watch Trump destroy him.

Susan Jane's avatar

He will still cling on to its tailpipe.

Tina Zep's avatar

Hopefully with his mouth around it…

HI2thDoc's avatar

He occasionally slips up and commits a truth, like wishing Usha would stop being a heathen and convert to Xtian nationalism

DJ Headthrob's avatar

Let's hope Usha declines to throw herself on his funeral pyre.

Fastball Fredo's avatar

Or maybe people should tear down Usha, due to the fact that she is, as well as James Talarico, a vegan.. cause not eating beef is… Un American.. Amiright sports fans?

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Talarico isn't vegan. That was an imaginary supposed insult conjured up by the pro-Paxton crowd.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Imaginary, along with him being gay, having "low T" and, according to Stephen Miller, being trans. What he really is is boyish — he's 37 and could pass for 25. (We should all be so lucky!) He looks like Opie from The Andy Griffith Show.

Tish Grier's avatar

If ANYONE is the advert for "low T" it's Stephen Miller! Between that pastt white complexion, that balding head and that waisted looking physique, that guy needs some serious T. It would at least give him some facial hair

kdsherpa's avatar

She's making a joke.

HI2thDoc's avatar

Or she doesn't eat beef because she is a Hindu, which her unctuous husband finds insulting

Cathy Wray's avatar

That's the perfect description of Vance...unctuous.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

The miserable Usha (JD's words. not mine) is a study in hypocrisy herself.

HI2thDoc's avatar

The psychologists should term a new syndrome after her, like Dunning-Kruger

Cathy 98280's avatar

Or like Stockholm.

P123Sunny's avatar

noticed that - weird

Kay-El's avatar

Funny, I read elsewhere that he had a no good, very bad day.

Kevin Rice's avatar

I heard it was cloudy, with a chance of meatballs.

Unity In Defiance's avatar

Which is the bigger lie? Couch Cassanova’s “very good day” of Iran talks or Donnie’s Algae vandals?

Robert Eckert's avatar

Well, it's not exactly the case that "nobody is vandalizing the Pool": there is one person who vandalized it very seriously.

SethTriggs's avatar

I'd believe him if he said his favorite store was Ashley.

Stephen Brady's avatar

He is trying to get the Wheel of Moron to come back to him and off of Judge Jeanine Botabox...

DJ Headthrob's avatar

We all know the drill: If it's Good News it gets credited to Orange Jabba. Bad News get blamed on the Dum(b)ocrats and, secondarily, JD Vance.

Joyce's avatar

Also in Shit That Happened While.....

Video released today of a car running into a woman yesterday at the NJ ICE concentration facility. A small group of protestors were at the entrance to the facility; the young woman was twirling an upside-down American flag and, while her back was turned to the entrance, a car entered and drove directly into her--no hesitation, no swerve: it was with deliberate intention. She was knocked off her feet and across the hood of the car; she seemed to fall onto the pavement to the side of the car, so that the driver could not run the car right over her. I'm sure he regretted that part.

Ruth Ann Orlansky's avatar

Yeah, for me, I don't believe anything from this non-stop lying administration. I only believe what I get from Meidas, and I'm far more likely to believe the Iranians, even though they do quite a bit of lying too.

In any case, I'm definitely not going to believe what our soulless, empty suit VP and his failed real-estate cohorts have to say.

Talk about totally disrespecting the negotiations! Where's Marco Rubio? Iran has come with their top people, and the only people we have are the equivalents of used car salesmen! I'm amazed that Iran hasn't just told us that they will not negotiate until some truly qualified negotiators are found.

Robert Eckert's avatar

Iran has never had any intention of negotiating, since they know that Trump's word is worthless and he would never abide by any agreement he pretended to go along with. They don't want to look like the side that won't negotiate, however, so they go through the motions, while never backing down from any of their maximalist demands. I'm sure they were astonished when Trump signed the Meme of Misunderstanding that they drafted, but are hardly surprised that he is breaking it immediately.

Pere Ubu's avatar

I received an update from Heritage this morning in which they are very very excited about how well the Iran peace process is going. Aged like a mayfly. They should probably give up trying to propel the propaganda while Mr. Unpredictable el Caudillo is in office. It's just embarrassing for everyone.

The Deflection Pool strikes again 😒

Unity In Defiance's avatar

I’ve been calling it the projection pool, which is coming even more to fruition with the VJay Bombs projection of swamp monsters there now lmao 🤣

Grace Kennedy's avatar

Apparently pooping in the Capitol Rotunda isn’t a federal crime anymore. But touching floating pool paint is. It’s so confusing!!

Susanna Reilly's avatar

I know! It’s so hard to keep up! Maybe pooping in the pool and taking paint chips out of the Capitol?

Pere Ubu's avatar

Paint chips?

You mean wall candy?

Barbara Vasile's avatar

Worse yet, that image inside the Lincoln Memorial looks vaguely like Stephen Miller! That is beyond the pale, IMO.

The Deflection Fool's Projection Pool.

PEACE, LOVE, RESIST's avatar

Trump says vandalizing a national monument is a crime and people who do it are crazy and horrible…yet…at least antifa isn’t bulldozing entire buildings. It’s as if he’s never considered how hypocritical x 1000 he is all day, every day. I guess that would take self reflection and actually remembering what he did and said a minute ago let alone a month or year ago.

Susanna Reilly's avatar

The words “hypocrisy” and “irony” are missing from his very limited vocabulary, as is the phrase “self-awareness.”

Cyndi's avatar

Self-awareness is precisely what any narcissist is missing.

Mr. Orange Squashed never developed to the place where he recognized different people have existence independent of himself.

Diana's avatar

Plus- breaking into the Nations Capital and fighting and killing law enforcement isn’t a crime ? Silly me- they’ve all been pardoned and he’s trying to PAY them for being weaponized ?? That logic just doesn’t make any sense to me at all‼️

P.s love your posting name❤️

Pere Ubu's avatar

Trying to pay them MILLIONS of dollars EACH. (I'm never going to stop pointing out the $1.776 billion, because stupidity. And pretending that they were just peaceful tourists while tossing around references to the (violent) American Revolution.)

Kathleen Weber's avatar

P123Sunny, that is crushingly funny!!!

P123Sunny's avatar

I think I saw it on Wajahat Ali - The Left Hook‼️

Unity In Defiance's avatar

Why oh why do we live in the timeline where more people have been erroneously arrested for touching lime green algae in Donnies DIY swamp, then have been arrested for the Epstein files?

devourerofpancakes's avatar

Well that is a depressing thought.

Nancy Potter's avatar

I would also like to know what kind of knife he thinks Antifa uses to make those jagged, irregular shapes out of the slime-covered paint.

Joyce's avatar

MS-NOW played a clip last night of Donnie Demento bragging, a couple weeks ago, that the paint job was so "powerful" that no one could cut through it, even if they had a knife.........

Isn't the weapon of choice for Antifa cans of soup? Now, if the Reflecting Pool were filled with Campbell's Chunky, that would be clear evidence of Antifa's invidiousness.

PEACE, LOVE, RESIST's avatar

To his base, this explanation is totally plausible and doesn’t call for common sense. There’s no way a 14 million dollar job so beautiful could get fucked up all on its own.

Pere Ubu's avatar

Nothing is EVER el Caudillo's fault. I'd be surprised if he didn't claim the poop in his boxers was put there by Antifa.

Leu2500's avatar

pinking shears

Mingo's avatar

Donnie's DIY swamp, LOL. I racked my brain when I heard the contractor who did the paint job was named John Cafaro. I used to live outside Youngstown OH for a few years and the Cafaro family is well known for their corruption in that area. They were in bed with Jim (Beam me up Scotty) Traficant who went to prison and is now deceased. Only the best people.

Only the best people until they *uck up - then he conveniently has amnesia ‼️

The GREAT VANDALIZER is accusing people of vandalizing his VANDALISM.

How funny is that!!!!

HI2thDoc's avatar

"The Radical Left is vandalizing my vandalism!" Reminiscent of a MASH episode where Klinger feigns self-immolation with water to leverage a Section 8 from Col. Potter. Potter and Radar realize Klinger faked it so they replace his water with real gasoline, and when Klinger pours it over himself, he exclaims in terror "Who put gasoline in my gasoline?! Stay away from me with that lighter!"

P123Sunny's avatar

Yeah that’s about where we are?! They race to cut our ability to afford ANYTHING - and still sending me push notifications from a m a z o n

Mary Hall's avatar

Truth. I had to tell Alexa to "stop trying to sell me shit every time I ask a question."

Joyce's avatar

And he won't take down the Kennedy Center tarp, either because another of his crack teams botched the removal job, or he's having A Very Big Mad about having to have his name removed, and now NOBODY is allowed to see the Kennedy Center facade. I see an echo of having to put the USS John McCain behind a curtain so Demento wouldn't lose his shit over it.

Sandy's avatar

Pour Klinger’s gasoline on the tarp and get out all the lighters

arne link's avatar

Oh, my. That made my head spin for a moment.

Cathy Wray's avatar

Pretty funny when you put it that way!!😆

Diana's avatar

Wicked funny Ingrid‼️🤭

Quick question box of wine, is the Capitol building like the reflecting pool? Asking for 140 police injured on jan 6

Mark Slattery's avatar

So, pardons for MAGA predators fondling children. 10-yr. prison sentences for those fondling paint chips. Got it.

devourerofpancakes's avatar

What makes me sad is that nobody says no to Trump at any level. The cops could easily ignore a command to arrest people for picking up paint chips. The national guard could ignore the order to post people every 10 feet. Or at least slow walk the implementation. He's a dottering old fool. Smile, say yes sir, and then go about life as usual. It can't possibly be that difficult.

Mary Lou Williams's avatar

Soon those paint chips will be up for sale on Ebay.

PEACE, LOVE, RESIST's avatar

There’s a meme showing trumps devil spawn selling three different sizes of paint chips for hundreds each. Sounds about right.

myhoopbabies's avatar

I agree! What is it that makes people do what he says when he is clearly out of his fucking mind? It's not against the law to touch paint! There are probably thousands of videos of his own shitty contractors pouring what amounted to paint thinner into our reflecting pool, but it must have been antifa. He has vandalized our entire White House and its grounds; there is no end to his destruction, but by all means, keep enforcing his bullshit directives. (Whew, I needed to vent, sorry!)

Cathy Rady's avatar

I am the Reflecting Pool

Perpetually venerable and solemn

A part of the Lincoln Memorial

Like each classical Greek column

I was there for Marian Anderson

And MLK's I Have a Dream

Forrest and Jenny hugged in my water

After his name he heard Jenny scream

Then this ignorant narcissist

Compared me to buildings and called me a "pond"

Inflicted a dumb non-bid paint job

Again the taxpayers were conned

Only someone so monumentally stupid

Would worsen the algal blooms

He is irredeemably shallow and clueless

Gassed by his own noxious fumes

Every single American

Should rightfully be feeling sick

By this destructive, corrupt fuckery

Help me and make it quick!

Besides, I'm too busy today to proofread the Internet.

Well, there are many rubbery paint “ships” sailing around in the Reflecting Pool, even as we speak!

George A. Polisner's avatar

Thank you Jeff.

The stealing of paint chips. The hurling of dangerous sandwiches. All of it far more important than the blatant acts of Trump corruption, unchecked by a GOP-led Congress. And it is going to get a treatment in my soon to be released into the wild article "The Architecture of Corruption".

Here's an excerpt (unedited and not final version):

"A foreign government gave the President of the United States an airplane.

A Boeing 747-8 valued at roughly $400 million, offered by the royal family of Qatar.

When I receive a gift valued at $400 million, I write the thank-you note by hand. A gift that size gets my attention. It also raises a question I cannot help asking: what can I do for you, royal family, to show my appreciation? That is how a gift this large works. It is never free. It asks for something in return.

A gift like this is not supposed to cost the recipient a dime. It is not supposed to arrive postage due. This one did. Making it usable cost more than $900 million. Donald Trump does not pay that bill.

We do.

It was already in the budget, you might say. A trillion-dollar defense budget, and this was less than a thousandth of it. The money was going to be spent anyway.

That is the shrug this whole piece has to get past, so it is worth slowing down here, once, because the answer is the same for every story that follows. And notably, the shrug stems from manufactured exhaustion, not apathy. When there are so many lies we stop caring and paying attention to them. I’ve written that Trump has a tell when he speaks. If sounds are coming from his mouth as he tries to piece together a coherent sentence, he’s lying. The same is true for the pattern of blatant corruption. When every act is grounded in “hand in the till” self-dealing, we become exhausted.

A budget is not a vault of money already paid for. Washington spends more than it collects, and has for decades, but the modern debt was not built evenly. It was built mostly by one repeated choice: large tax cuts, tilted to the already wealthy, that no one paid for. Reagan made that choice. George W. Bush made it and turned a surplus into deficits. Trump made it twice, once in his first term and again, larger, this year. The $934 million for the 'gift' jet was borrowed inside the hole those choices dug. It did not come from the Trump Organization, Trump Casinos, or Trump Steaks. It came from taxes that will be owed in the future, paid for by us, our children, and our grandchildren, with interest attached. The national debt has crossed $39 trillion. The interest alone now runs more than a trillion dollars a year, roughly $3 billion a day. Your kids will still be paying interest on this jet long after it has been towed into Trump’s private library, next to 1,000 copies of “Art of the Deal”, “Mein Kampf”, and “Project 2025” with the President’s name over the door.

And here is the part our exhausted shrug misses completely. The missile program this money was taken from did not stop being necessary. So either the country is now less defended than the budget Congress passed said it should be, or that $934 million gets put back later as fresh spending, and you fund the jet and the missiles both.

You paid for missile defense. You got a flying penthouse you will never set foot in and never own.

Who covers the difference?

We do."

HI2thDoc's avatar

The ruined wreck of the Grand Old Party, now the Guardians of Predators, has foisted on much of under- or misinformed America some gargantuan myths, now coming into full view with unsurprising consequences. Among these outright lies are that they, the conservatives, are the party of the Constitution, the party of law and order, the party of family values, the party of fiscal responsibility, all evidence to the contrary. Until the swath of American voters long beguiled by these lies awakens, the hijacking of our nation will continue unabated.

George A. Polisner's avatar

Thank you -and yes, I often think that Dwight Eisenhower was the last true conservative Republican who put the interests of the nation before party. Nixon, in some of his policies leaned liberal, Reagan was the worst modern day President (until Trump’s kleptocracy), George Bush was disconnected, forgettable, and had his hands sullied by Reagan’s Iran-Contra actions, George W.’s tax cuts and wars led the U.S. economy to a cliff. Calling post-Eisenhower Republicans conservative is like calling Jeffrey Dahmer a vegan.

HI2thDoc's avatar

I am not as well versed as you on the political history of our nation. My view of conservatism, forged by those individuals after Eisenhower that you mentioned, makes me (as an ethnic minority myself) fully believe that conservatism is not only contrary to but destructive to a diverse nation comprised of immigrants, many of whom are ethnic and religious minorities, not to mention when more than half the populace are females. Conservatism as it exists in the last four decades is rife with bigotry and extreme bias toward the rich, including the fervent embrace of vulture capitalism, exacerbating the rift between the wealthy and everyone else and decimating the middle class. The GOP to my mind has diligently pursued mirroring the wealth distribution of authoritarian nations, distinguished by their dysfunction and corruption. Not what my view of America is or should be. So I despise the right and their hypocrisy, self-dealing, and greed. Conservatism as a concept is anathema to me.

George A. Polisner's avatar

I think it really depends upon who is wielding the label of conservative or liberal. When I see political campaigns now where someone announces themselves as a GOP-candidate for some office, or a family values conservative for this or that -I cringe for all of the reasons you powerfully list.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke about “The Fierce Urgency of Now” more than 60 years ago and in those 60+ years we have largely been blocked from strengthening voting rights, codifying equality, addressing entrenched systemic racism, and our egregious past. GOP party members from Jesse Helms, Strom Thurmond, Trent Lott to today’s Chief “Justice” Roberts, Hegseth, and the racist Trump continue to block progress, or worse, move us backwards in time toward polarizing hatred and fear.

Nevertheless -I have friendships across political ideologies -with one important thread -they are conservatives who believe in the rule of law, they defend the Constitution, they embrace equality. So I try to look beyond the labels and generalities -and sometimes we learn from each other and develop new understanding.

HI2thDoc's avatar

I yield to your experience and knowledge. I do not personally know anyone who can be a conservative and yet have a world view compatible with universal human rights and dignity, not to mention equality. I do not feel, perhaps arrogantly or obstinately, that conservatives have anything useful that I can assimilate.

George A. Polisner's avatar

No need to yield -your context and experiences matter just as much as mine -actually more so. While I've personally known poverty I am a product of white privilege, so some of my own perspectives are flawed because they have been formed while insulated.

James Vander Poel's avatar

Exactly, George. Ike was the last Republican worthy of the Oval Office. I've known that all my life. And his legacy, his warning of the rise of the military-industrial complex, has sadly come true. Someone asked why we spent so much on weaponry. I put it down to the philosophy on the latrine wall in Da Nang: "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for I am the baddest m.....f....r in the valley." We have become the world's armorer, responsible for more destruction than any other nation.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

President Cheney was pretty bad. Used to be my least favorite elected official ever, but times have changed.

George A. Polisner's avatar

His daughter almost managed to redeem him. :)

HI2thDoc's avatar

Is it wrong of me to feel the enormous satisfaction of schadenfreude when conservatives have gay family members? I'm assuming you are referring to Mary, not Liz. Or maybe they both had some effect, since Liz is vehemently anti-trump. Whatever, the whole gay daughter thing is emblematic of another conservative trait that I loathe: "I do not care in the least when other people have a problem. I only care when it affects me."

George A. Polisner's avatar

I derive great pleasure as well. It's the universe telling all of us to remember Carl Sagan's perspective -we're all in a pale blue dot life raft spinning through space at high speed -let's be good to one another. :)
