Obviously, Donnie could not pass a 9th grade civics course, but he gets to be one whole branch of government all by himself. Donny's rewriting the constitution and boiling down it down to one line: “He who has the gold makes the rules."

Declan's avatar

Absolutely....he is depending on his crack team of lawyers..and the Federalist Society....to either change the Constitution or find ways around it. That's what made me uncomfortable when Dems woukdnsay 'That against the Constitution...can't do that!' I knew he would try to amend it or even do away with it like Hitler did with Germanys constitution.. The Dems don't have the legal firepower behind them like D does with their many massive thinktanks and organizations. Why did Stephen Miller start America First Legal?? To skirt Constitution.

Deborah Hunter's avatar

I wasn't born yet, but I don't remember reading that the Nazis put on a clown show like these morons in regard to disorganization and chaos. Evil, yes - no one can outdo them except Stalin.

Curt Andersen's avatar

Well, there was the Bier Hall Putsch in Munich. That was pretty clowny. Hitler got arrested.

Robert Eckert's avatar

Goehring was considered quite the buffoon in the early days.

Stephen Schiff's avatar

What we need right now is to have one of his deep thinking supporters in Congress, (Oh, I don't know, Tommy Tuberville or Marjorie Taylor Green or Jim Jordan or Lauren Bobbitt or . . .; so many choices!) introduce legislation to repeal the 5th Amendment and while we are at it the 1st and the 4th and the 6th and the 13th, 14th, 15th and 17th. Then everything their idol is doing would be legal.

My guess is that MAGA would love it.

Kathleen Weber's avatar

Actually, ignoring the constitution works just as well as repealing it, and it's a lot less work!

Stephen Schiff's avatar

That's the Soviet model. Obviously attractive to the Putin-loving MAGAts.

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

Exactly Kathleen, why would any of these miscreants put themselves out with hard work…ignore the Constitutional laws, who’s going to stop them!!

Mary Hall's avatar

T💩p's “God Bless the USA Bible” includes the text of the King James Bible along with the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Pledge of Allegiance. It does not, however, include the 11th through 27th amendments of the Constitution, thus omitting the provisions that abolished slavery, granted the right to vote to women and Black people, and limited presidents to serving only two terms. It also leaves out the Insurrectionist clause.

Stephen Schiff's avatar

Thank you very much for bringing this to my attention. On one hand it's Fucking UNBELIEVABLE but on the other hardly surprising. In his defense he is only following the precedent of the so-called federalists on the SCOTUS who removed portions of Article I, Section 8 and the first 13 words of the 2nd Amendment so that it would be swell to take your AR--14 to school or to a Black church or a synagogue. Scalia, may he rot in hell. Thomas and Alito too.

steve robertshaw's avatar

And the unprincipled amoral lying conniving McConnell who gave those two an additional two fellow travelers to stack the Supreme Court by first ignoring his duty in the Constitution to put Obama's nominee up for a vote, and then literally doing the exact opposite 4 years later to ram a trump nominee through in record time. As silly as the concept (hell) is, I do so hope there's something to it

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

That IQ of 74, coupled with his illiteracy is working well oui, Kathleen?

Jan Moon's avatar

Actually his IQ has dropped to just below his shoe size. And with Vampire I'm-going-to-brainwash-your-children Stephen Miller, what more could he need?

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

Is anyone else here AS sure as I am that nosferatu miller is THE one behind ALL of it? Sundowning grandpa is so far out in left field he's starting to cook in the sun, so miller is calling ALL the shots. The language, the repulsiveness, the 'every knee will bow' style rhetoric zings right to MY brain and I KNOW it's that sniveling little reincarnated goebbells/kapo.

T L Mills's avatar

Yesterday, I read an entire article (on Substack...I think) on the idea that Miller is behind much of 47's policies--especially immigration, of course. It also said that Miller has been safe because he lurks in the background. Close enough to have 47's ear, but far enough away so he doesn't get blamed and thrown under the bus.

I have noticed Miller giving policy speeches and interviews lately and I'm wondering why he's allowing himself to be put in the public eye and doing all this speechifying. Doing so can be risky, especially if/when Donny starts to thinking that Miller is too popular (like that will ever happen) or that he's getting too much attention. So one of the things the article said was that Miller is not good with being challenged in a interview...pressure makes him go into melt-downs. The article recommended that interviewers question his assertions.

And as for what "we the people" can do is to use placards and posters that make it clear that we think Miller is in charge, not 47.

So the messaging is this:

1) "This isn't Trump's playbook; it's Miller's script."

2) "When Trump talks legalese, it's really Miller talking through him."

3) "Miller doesn't "advise" the President...he programs him."

I wish I could remember the name of the article and who wrote it...I thought it had lots of good info.

shee-rah's avatar

It’s Miller time.

I take self-defense classes at a "fight club" (it's not a single gym but a large venue that leases out space to coaches and groups). Something that looks new to me is seeing women in those classes: boxing, MMA, individual martial arts. As much as a third. Gun ownership among women jumped almost 50% (to 23% of all US adult women in 2022) over six years from 2016.

I will say NOTHING here about "who will win in a civil war to establish Gilead", especially since that's fiction. What I will say is that the schtick perpetuated by both the Left and the Right since ever that women are helpless victims is false. I'm reasonably sure that when things go sideways, it will get ugly in a hurry. Could women be enslaved by men en masse? Maybe. But the cost would be higher than you think. Especially since a lot of men won't be bought in, necessarily.

Liz and Max the No. 1 Cat's avatar

And Secretary Pete Boozehound who thinks women can't be "war-fighters". He should ask Israel about that. Not to mention a number of other countries. Or, of course, he could study history, but that might be too hard for him. Whether openly or covertly, women have fought in pretty much every war. Ask him if he knows who Joan of Arc was for starters.

Pam Humphrey's avatar

Hey, some Pams are brave, strong and cool. (Not Pam Bondi, though.)

George in Atlanta's avatar

Points well taken.

Bone to pick, thought: Max is, in fact, NOT the No. 1 Cat. Everybody knows it's Daisy.

Liz and Max the No. 1 Cat's avatar

Well, Max crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2018 and he'll always be MY No. 1 Cat. However, I can't judge Daisy's worthiness to be a No. 1 cat unless you post a picture.

how do you even put a tariff on a movie? on the film stock when it comes in? but they can transmit it digitally. Or send one copy of the film in and then copy it here. He's such a fucking idiot. And by the way - if the kid is using pencils to draw pictures, they need more than 5 colors.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

I read that Jon Voight gave him that idea about slapping a tariff on all foreign films. Washed up old actor, so out-of-touch with his own industry. Trump is still pissed that "Parasite" with an all-Korean cast, took the Oscar for Best Film one year. How is the tariff going to be enforced against the big streaming companies, like Netflix and Disney? Making America broke and isolated, like N. Korea.

Anne's avatar

yeah, I just saw the Rolling Stones article that Voight suggested it. If we want more films made in the USA - the answer is for states, cities, counties to give incentives to film here, rather than punishing those who go abroad. There are reasons to film abroad that aren't all financial - DUNE! Lord of the Rings! lots of other amazing movies. Well, hopefully he forgets this idea quickly.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Veteran film critic here. Despise Trump. Think his tariff on foreign films proposal is insane.

And I hated the Oscar for the vastly overrated "Parasite" as well.

Anne's avatar

I enjoyed Parasite. Don't know if it should have won or not; I didn't watch all the movies in the categories it won in so... don't know.

"Dementia Don" is at it again. It's "stroller" or "pram" or maybe "baby carrier" or "baby sling" that you're looking for in the cobwebbed corners of your mind. And America First's legal eagles (think Stephen Miller and his ilk) are challenging the court system on whether parts of it should now be under the purview of the executive branch. Keep resisting and pushing back, fellow citizens, because this one's for all the marbles.

Deborah Hunter's avatar

I've been to Alcatraz during the night visit time. Didn't seem prisoner ready, but that's just me. Hey, if the choice is only Alcatraz or out of the country, I'd choose Alcatraz. Does a day go by that Trump or one of his Nazi thugs aren't threatening someone about something. He is exhausting.

Marlene Lerner-Bigley (CA)'s avatar

It isn’t ready for anything but tourism. It’s California’s famous relic known for being a prison on an island in the Pacific. Would be a perfect place to house Trump and Company, however.
